  • We propose an algorithm to detect the face region using a variable ellipsoidal mask and a neural network. Since outlines of human faces are similar to ellipsoid, the ellipsoidal mask that has the fixed ratio of major and minor axis can be used to detect the candidate area. The positions of eyes and lips are extracted in this candidate area, and then the morphological analysis is applied to make features which are consist of six parameters, such as the geometrical ratio of eyes and lips. A back-propagation neural network is used as a classifier to determine the most possible face region. The experimental result is conducted to verify its efficiency compared with those of previous works.

  • Sleep mode detection is a significant power management and green computing feature. However, it is difficult for televisions and smart TVs to detect deactivation events because we can use these devices without the assistance of an input device. In this paper, we propose a robust method for smart TVs to detect deactivation events based on a visual combination of face and motion detection. The results of experiments conducted indicate that the proposed method significantly reduces incorrect face detection and human absence by means of motion detection. The results also show that the proposed method is robust and effective for smart TVs to reduce power consumption.

  • Nowadays, eyes detection is required and considered as the most important step in several applications, such as eye tracking, face identification and recognition, facial expression analysis and iris detection. This paper presents the eyes detection in facial images using Harris corner detection. Firstly, Haar-like features for face detection is used to detect a face region in an image. To separate the region of the eyes from a whole face region, the projection function is applied in this paper. At the last step, Harris corner detection is used to detect the eyes location. In experimental results, the eyes location on both grayscale and color facial images were detected accurately and effectively.

  • This experimental study is mainly investigated on the mean cutting forces and AE(acoustic emission) parameters in order to detect and estimate the tool failure in the pachinig of SUS304 by face milling Mean cutting forces and AE parameters can detect the tool failure in face milling. Effective detection parameters are AE RMS, AE energy, AE count, AE duration, and z-direction mean cutting force. From the analysis of cutting tool failure detection, the tool failure of face milling is caused by sudden increasing of the cutting force.

  • For an effective pre-treatment process of a face input image, it is necessary to detect each of face components, calculate the face area, and estimate the rotary angle of the face. A proposed method of this study can estimate an robust result under such renditions as some different levels of illumination, variable fate sizes, fate rotation angels, and background color similar to skin color of the face. The first step of the proposed method detects the estimated face area that can be calculated by both adapted skin color Information of the band-wide HSV color coordinate converted from RGB coordinate, and skin color Information using histogram. Using the results of the former processes, we can detect a lip area within an estimated face area. After estimating a rotary angle slope of the lip area along the X axis, the method determines the face shape based on face information. After detecting eyes in face area by matching a partial template which is made with both eyes, we can estimate Y axis rotary angle by calculating the eye´s locations in three dimensional space in the reference of the face area. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the effectuality of proposed algorithm was verified.

  • According to development of media, various information is recorded in media, expression is one during interesting information. Because expression includes of relationship of human inside. Intention of inside is expressed by gesture, but expression has more information. And, expression can manufacture voluntarily, include plan of inside on the man. Also, expression has unique character in a person, have alliance that do division possibility. In this paper, to analyze expression of USB camera animation, wish to detect facial building block. Because characteristic point by person's expression change exists on face component. For component detection, in animation one frame with Capture, grasp facial position, and separate face area, and detect characteristic points of face component.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to detect contours of a face, eyes, and a mouth of a person in the color image in order to make an avatar automatically. First, we use the HSI color model to exclude the effect of various light conditions, and find skin regions in the input image by using the skin color defined on HS-plane. And then, we use deformable templates and genetic algorithm (GA) to detect contours of a face, eyes, and a mouth. Deformable templates consist of B-spline curves and control point vectors. Those represent various shapes of a face, eyes and a mouth. GA is a very useful search algorithm based on the principals of natural selection and genetics. Second, the avatar is automatically created by using GA-detected contours and Fuzzy C-Means clustering (FCM). FCM is used to reduce the number of face colors. In result, we could create avatars which look like handmade caricatures representing user's identity. Our approach differs from those generated by existing methods.

  • For fast and robust face detection, this paper proposes an approach for face detection using fusion of heterogeneous template matching. First, we detect skin regions using a model of skin color which covers various illumination and races. After reducing a search space by region labelling and filtering, we apply template matching with skin color and edge to the detected regions. Finally, we detect a face by finding the best choice of template fusion. Experimental results show the proposed approach is more robust in skin color-like environments than with a single template matching and is fast by reducing a search space to face candidate regions. Also, using a global accumulator can reduce excessive space requirements of template matching.

  • Most of face detection technique uses information from the face of the movement. The traditional face detection method is to use difference picture method ate used to detect movement. However, most do not consider this mathematical approach using real-time or real-time implementation of the algorithm is complicated, not easy. This paper, the first to detect real-time facial image is converted YCbCr and RGB video input. Next, you convert the difference between video images of two adjacent to obtain and then to conduct Glassfire Labeling. Labeling value compared to the threshold behavior Area recognizes and converts video extracts. Actions to convert video to conduct face detection, and detection of facial characteristics required for the extraction and use of AdaBoost algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present a new approach to detect and recognize human face in the image from vision camera equipped on the mobile robot platform. Due to the mobility of camera platform, obtained facial image is small and pose-various. For this condition, new algorithm should cope with these constraints and can detect and recognize face in nearly real time. In detection step, ‘coarse to fine’ detection strategy is used. Firstly, region boundary including face is roughly located by dual ellipse templates of facial color and on this region, the locations of three main facial features- two eyes and mouth-are estimated. For this, simplified facial feature maps using characteristic chrominance are made out and candidate pixels are segmented as eye or mouth pixels group. These candidate facial features are verified whether the length and orientation of feature pairs are suitable for face geometry. In recognition step, pseudo-convex hull area of gray face image is defined which area includes feature triangle connecting two eyes and mouth. And random lattice line set are composed and laid on this convex hull area, and then 2D appearance of this area is represented. From these procedures, facial information of detected face is obtained and face DB images are similarly processed for each person class. Based on facial information of these areas, distance measure of match of lattice lines is calculated and face image is recognized using this measure as a classifier. This proposed detection and recognition algorithms overcome the constraints of previous approach [15], make real-time face detection and recognition possible, and guarantee the correct recognition irregardless of some pose variation of face. The usefulness at mobile robot application is demonstrated.
