A Study on the Preference of Consumers for facade Design with Brand Concepts in Apartments (브랜드 아파트의 주동 입면 디자인에 대한 소비자들의 선호도에 관한 연구)

  • In the recent years, domestic construction companies have tried to differentiate their apartments using brand positioning. Respective construction companies are attracting public attention with discriminative brands. This study investigated residents' preferences focusing on apartments facade design used in marketing strategy of brand apartments. Four concepts in surveyed brand apartments are deluxe, modern, eco-friendly and comfortable. According to the related study on design factor of apartment facade, the design factors are chosen such as the overall building shape, balcony form, main color, exterior wall shape, material, main access shape, pent house design and window size. As a result of analysis, there was a difference between brand concepts and consumers' views. Therefore, apartment facade design to differentiate their own companies' brand images should consider the perception of customers.

A Study on the Preference of Design Components of Shop Facade (숍 파사드 디자인 구성요소에 대한 선호도 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to figure out the preference features on design components of shop facade on the basis of the questionnaire survey on short-term memory and sensory memory of human right after an image experiment. As for a preceding research, this study examined the design features of facade into tangible elements and intangible elements, and also classified them into physical, aesthetical, marketing and symbolic components in detail. And, it extracted 5 representative elements in preceding studies including shape, material, pattern, color and sign, which is the standard of a questionnaire survey and preference analysis. The subjects of the experiment were 30 men and women who were over 20 years old majoring interior design. They were exposed to 20 images with 10 seconds respectively through a video, and were asked to respond the questionnaire promptly. The findings of preference analysis of design components of facade including shape, material, pattern, color and sign are as follows. Firstly, shape was the most interesting and attracting component, and designs applied with shape of objects such as 'web', 'drawer', 'wheel' and 'button' obtained high preference. Secondly, as for material, block, steel, exposed concrete board attracted higher preference as memorable materials than other materials. Material was affected by shape, pattern and color. Thirdly, pattern was the most lasting element. Designed pattern had higher preference than simple pattern. Fourthly, as for color, red and green with strong stimulation and attention attained priority having long lasting memory. Fifthly, when visiting a shop, sign out of 5 elements of shape, material, pattern, color and sign drew attention the most. As for the preference of location of sign, 'center top' was the most noticeable. The findings of this study could be utilized for facade design, and also could be used for commercialization considering highly preferred components, and top preference aspects of such elements. advised that to give an impression to customers is important to make a successful design for sales marketing, which, in turn, would lead customers to revisit the shop.

  • Recently, the interest in the smart buildings is increasing in the architecture field. Among them, a research of facade design using a transformable system that can adjust the effect of the external environment is in progress. One of a typical example of the deployable system is a Scissors system that can change shape by using the geometric conditions of a unit member. Scissors system is a high-tech structural system which can construct the deployable plan and curved space by using the SLE (Scissors-Like Element) consisted of two Bar and Pivot. If the facade is designed by applying Scissors system, it is possible to maximize the performance and aesthetic effect of the structure by using a shape change of the line member. This paper presents a study of deployable facade design applying hybrid-typed Scissors system. A new deployable pattern of facade design is developed by combining Angulated Scissors system and tessellation pattern. Applying the deployable pattern a double skin construction method which is to add an outer wall for design, it raises three dimensional effects and can maximize the artistic essence of the change in shape upon deployment.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the facade design of the modern multistory-housing in europe and to try to find the significant factor of them. For analysing, the facade design factors are divided by three criterion, which consists of external expression, visual expression and Housing Shape. And those three criterion are schematized by subdivision. By integrating those data, this study aims at deriving the significant factor of facade designs and categorizing them. Conclusively, I suggest the alternative method to improve the facade design of multistory-housing in Korea based on results of this study.

A Study on Perceptual Characteristics of Facade Design and Composition Elements of Cafe Space (카페공간의 구성요소와 파사드디자인의 지각특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study has analysed the composition elements in a cafe space where visual transfer-elements are filled and the perceptual characteristics of facade designs with the purpose of drawing any important elements to advertisement and their related items for uniqueness of designs. For the analysis of the perception process shown in the consecutive situations of observing and visiting cafes, the cafe facade was grouped and stereotyped for the analysis of perceptual characteristics and significant composition elements for better designing of cafes through survey with representative facades as subjects. The conclusions from this study are the followings. First, for the uniqueness specific to cafes to be integrated into facade, memory was chosen first as the most significant advertisement factor followed by interest as with male and attention as with female. The memory has much to do with furniture and finishing material of Clause (4), Chapter 4.1 and the types having effects on perception of Clause (1) and the atmosphere having effect on that of Clause (2) were found to be major factors to attention and interest. Second, it was found out that women preferred horizontally stable partition and men clearly divided facades. The factor of shape was observed first among the constituents of facade followed by color. There was no difference with 'shape' between men and women and color was found to be a space constituent having a lot of effects on women. Third, the memory of experience from visiting a cafe was very likely to offer the motivation of visiting it again, on which furniture had the most effect followed by finishing material and color. Such elevation elements as facade and logo were found not to have effect on the memory or the re-visit. Any intention of visiting again seemed to be influenced by such comprehensive images as atmosphere rather than by any concrete facade, furniture, or appliance. From the above viewpoint, facade design should have any uniqueness or impressive feature as well as the effect of making passers-by drop in and attracting them into the shop. The analysis of attributes of facade constituents revealed that the abstract images in addition to the configuration of facade had much to do with interest or behavior.

Design Parameter Structure for Architectural Elements of External Kinetic Facade

  • Purpose: This paper aims to analyse the composition system of architectural elements including shape, kinetic and material elements of kinetic facades and establish the design parameter system as a common conceptual and practical knowledge sharing platform with mechanical and electrical experts. Method: This research has been conducted in a three steps. At first, 120 cases of external shading devices are analyzed and their classification criteria have been established. Secondly geometric, kinetic and material elements are categorized in a common kinetic facade coordinates system considering environmental effects and operation method, and the applicability of combination of each element are tested. Lastly core design parameters for each element have been established in a common office building installation coordinate. Result: Geometry elements are categorized into seven geometric shapes and kinetic elements is categorized into basic linear and rotational motion and combinational folding and rolling motion. The combined set of parameters for three elements composes the whole design parameters for architectural elements of kinetic façade. Design parameters of shape elements are composed of shape, installation and arrangement parameters; design parameters for kinetic elements are composed of axis and range parameters; and design parameters of material elements are composed of thermal, lighting and color parameters.

A Study on the facade Expression of the Modern Western Style Architecture in Seoul (서울시 근대 양식건축 파사드의 표현 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Urban is made over a long period of time. In the process, architecture involves design characteristics of age and place. In the case of modem western style architecture, just depend on the economic logic, they are continuously threatened during urban changes. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to recognize modern western style architecture as valuable things, which represents color of urban, and to seek how it can be reused. This is a process in order to find a new method for conservation and reuse of modern western style architecture. The result are as followings. Modern western style architecture must be recognized as resource, which expresses identity of urban, and found a method for conservation and reuse of facade at least. So we need to search design characteristics of facade. It has been analyzed that assigned modem western style architecture in seoul can be divided into 6 groups. Each group has individual characteristics of facade expression, which is 'dormer', 'vent', 'balustrade', 'cornice', 'dome', 'tower', etc in top part, and 'the shape of window and door', 'the element of ornament', 'finish', etc in middle part.

The Empirical Analysis of Differences in Recognition of the Genders in the Media Facade (LED 미디어파사드에 있어 남녀에 따른 인지정도의 실증분석)

  • Recently, the Department has utilized the media facade as a means to attract new customers and promotional tools. In particular, we checked the rate of customer's gender who visited a large department store. The ratio of women's visit is 4.6 times more than men. This can confirm the need to produce a differentiated content of LED media facade by gender. This study are subject to an empirical analysis of differences of perception of evaluation factors of media facade in gender. At first we specified four factors which can evaluate the media facade according to gender by previous studies. There are aesthetics, artistry, comfort and harmony. And the hypothesis was set as "Each factor might be differences between the recognition of their gender" In order to verify a hypothesis the country's large department store was selected and experiment was performed. In the result of the experiment, among the four factors, aesthetics, creativity, and harmony were chosen, while comfort was dismissed. This results confirm that the following factors are needed to attract more women's customer at the department such as combination of space and media facade, combination of shape and color, appropriateness of the information and beautiful place, and directing way of content.

Exploration of Isovist Fields to Model 3D Visibility With Building Facade

  • Visibility of a space have been defined in several different ways: such as the axial line covering a convex space, a convex space defining the fattest shape in a space and an Isovist field formed by a field of vision at a given vantage point. Isovist fields are referred to as a descriptive medium to describe a movement by reviewing and analyzing geometric properties in them. Many descriptive methods for analysis of three-dimensional isovist are applied to analyzing the morphological properties in a 3D space more realistically. Although these models are regarded as a more advanced method for describing spatial properties, they have pros and cons such as complex mathematical calculations and somewhat arbitrary calibration in addition to huge consumption of memory space. These difficulties lead to the development of a three-dimensional visual accessibility model that explores the implication of building shape on the calculation of isovist fields drawn on a 2D plane. We propose a conceptual framework of how to measure the isovist field not as a 3D volume but as a combination of 2D plane on the ground with the 3D building shape of it's facade.

Luminance Characteristics on the Facade of Shopping Complexes - Focused on Dongdaemun Area in Seoul - (복합쇼핑용 건축물의 경관조명으로 인한 표면휘도 분포 특성 - 동대문 지역을 중심으로 -)

  • Recently, rapid development of technique and change of lifestyle during nighttime has activated the urban outdoor lighting and renovated consideration of nightscape. As the interest of nightscape increases more widely, outdoor lighting has been installed more and more in the cities. Nightscape comes in diverse forms. So, there is no absolute standard for outdoor lighting. But only bright outdoor lighting is not necessarily a good nightscape. Installation lighting without master plan or excessive outdoor lighting may cause a inharmony. This study aims to analyze the luminous characteristics of facade in shopping complexes. For the purpose, four large-scale shopping complexes located in Dongdaemun area were selected. Building facade composition, outdoor lighting composition, and lighting equipment of each shopping complexes are surveyed, and luminance of building facade were measured with Prometric 1400. The result of the study are as follows; (1) Horizontally large-scale shopping complexes emphasize the building entrance and shape of the building at night by outdoor lighting. (2) Non cut-off luminaries installed in building entrance and shop front caused the potential of light pollution.
