The bridge piers under service suffered a brittle failure due to the deterioration of lap-spliced longitudinal reinforcement without developing its flexural capacity or ductility. The earthquake induced lateral force results in tension which causes bond-slip failure at the lap-spliced region in circular bridge piers. In this case, such a brittle failure can be controlled by the seismic retrofit using FRP laminated circular tube. The retrofitted piers using FRP laminated circular tube showed significant improvement in seismic performance due to FRP's confinement effect. This paper presents the analytical results on the seismic strengthening effect of circular bridge piers with poor lap-splice details and strengthened with FRP laminated circular tube. FRP's confinement effect is predicted by the classical elasticity solution for the laminated circular tube manufactured with several layers. The FRP laminated circular tube induces the flexural failure instead of a bond-slip failure of the circular reinforced concrete piers under seismic induced lateral forces. To investigate the correctness and effectiveness of analytical solution derived in this study, the analytical results were compared with the experimental data and it was confirmed that the results were correlated well each other, The effects on the confinement of FRP laminated circular tube, such as the number of layers, the fiber orientations, and the mechanical properties, were investigated. From the parametric study, it was found that the number of layers, the fiber orientations, and the major Young's modulus (E11) of the FRP laminated circular tube were the dominant parameters affecting the confinement of reinforced concrete circular bridge piers.

It is difficult for existing beams to ensure the sufficient embedding depth due to constructional cause. Owing to these problems, currently FRP-Rod embedding repair method run parallel with a section increasing method in many case. In this study, anchor pin was adopted to solving the problems of the sliding of FRP-Rod and the unified behaviors of the repaired beam without increasing the section. In the experiments, split failure of covering concrete and slippage of the FRP-Rod were not occurred. it was confirmed that FRP-Rod shown the integrate behaviors with RC beam till the repaired beams destroyed.
In order to substitute FRP bar for steel bar in new structures, it is necessary to establish a reliable design code. But relatively little research has been conducted on the material in Korea. So, a total of 22 beam specimens (18 GFRP reinforced concrete and 4 conventional steel reinforced concrete) were constructed and tested. In the first phase of the experiment, it was carried out to observe flexural behavior, and collect deflection and crack data. In order to eliminate of the uncertainty by the shear reinforcements and induce flexural failure mode, any stirrup were not used and only shear span-depth ratio were adjusted. However, almost beams were broken by shear and the ACI 440.1R, CSA S806, which were used to design test beams, showed considerable deviation between prediction and test results of shear strengths. Therefore in the second phase of the study, shear failure modes and behavior were observed. A standard specimen had dimensions of 3,300 mm long ${\times}$ 800 mm wide ${\times}$ 200 mm effective depth. Clear span and shear span were 2,800 mm, 1,200 mm respectively. Control shear span-depth ratio was 6.0. Four-point bending test over simple support was conducted. Variables of the specimens were concrete compressive strength, type and elastic modulus of reinforcement, shear span-depth ratio, effective reinforcement ratio, the effect of bundle placing method and cover thickness.
Over the last few decades, many researches have been conducted in order to find solution to the problem of corrosion in steel reinforced concrete. As a result, methods such as the use of stainless steel bars, epoxy coatings, and concrete additives, etc., have been tried. While effective in some situations, such remedies may still be unable to completely eliminate the problems of steel corrosion. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) elements are appealing as reinforcement due to some material properties such as high tensile strength, low density, and noncorrosive. However, due to the generally lower modulus of elasticity of FRP in comparison with the steel and the linear behavior of FRP, certain aspects of the structural behavior of RC members reinforced with FRP may be substantially different from similar elements reinforced with steel reinforcement. This paper presents the flexural behavior of one-way concrete slabs reinforced with FRP bars. They were simply supported and tested in the laboratory under static loading conditions to investigate their crack pattern and width, deflections, strains and mode of failure. The experimental results shows that behavior of the FRP reinforced slabs was bilinearly elastic until failure. Also, the results show that the FRP overreinforced concrete beams in this study can be safe for design in terms of deformability.

Recently, earthquakes have frequently occurred near Korean peninsula. An experimental study is needed for developing a reinforcing method for seismic strengthening to apply to RC structures. Recently, PolyUrea (PU) as structural reinforcement materials has been receiving great interest from construction industry. The reinforcing effect of PU appeared to be excellent under blast and impact as well as earthquakes. In this study, Flexible Type PolyUrea (FTPU) developed in preceding studies was modified to develop Stiff Type PolyUrea (STPU) by varying the ratio of the components of prepolymer and hardener of FTPU. The material performance evaluation has been performed through hardening time, tensile strength and percent elongation test, pull-off test, and shore hardness test. The experimental results showed that STPU has higher tensile strength and lower elongation than FTPU. Therefore, STPU coating agent can be used for semi-permanent products. By using STPU with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) on concrete columns, confinement effect can be enhanced to maximize seismic strength and ductility.

In this experimental study, bond splitting strength and behavior were evaluated through pull-out tests. The tests were conducted on a GFRP rebar with roughened surface which was produced by Canadian manufacturer. The used variables in this study were rebar diameter, cover depth and compressive strength of concrete. For each variable, five specimens were made and tested to obtain good results. The bond splitting behavior was investigated from the relationship of pull-out force and slip. The experimental bond splitting strength was compared with the predicted strength obtained from the equations presented by some researchers. The results of the comparison demonstrated that the strength could be predicted well by using the Harajli et al's equation.
The near surface mounted (NSM) FRP strengthening method has been conventionally applied for strengthening the deteriorated concrete structures. The NSM strengthening method, however, has been issued with the problem of limitation of the cutting depth which is usually considered as concrete cover depth. This may be related with degradation of bonding performance in long-term service state. To improve the debonding problem, in this study, the Stirrup partial-cutting NSM (SCNSM) strengthening method using CFRP plate was newly developed. SCNSM strengthening method can be effectively applied to the deteriorated concrete structure without any troubles of insufficient cutting depth. To experimentally verify the structural behavior, the flexural test of the concrete beam by using the SCNSM strengthening method was conducted with the test variable as the strengthening length (32%, 48%, 70%, 80%, 96% of span length). In the result of the test, the NSM and SCNSM strengthened specimen showed similar structural behavior with load-deflection, mode of failure. Additionally, there was no apparent structural degradation by the stirrup partial-cutting. Consequently, it was evaluated that the SCNSM strengthening method can be useful for seriously damaged concrete structures that is hard to apply the conventional NSM strengthening method for increasing the structural capacity.

Recently, the near surface mounted (NSM) FRP strengthening technique has been actively applied to deteriorated concrete structures for rehabilitation purposes. However, the use of this conventional NSM technique could be restricted due to the insufficient height or strength of the concrete cover. In this study, the stirrup-Cutting Near Surface Mounted(CNSM) technique was considered as an alternative, whereby NSM strips are placed at a deeper level, namely at the level of the main steel reinforcement. A flexural test of a concrete beam strengthened with CNSM technique was performed and the results were then compared to those for a concrete beam strengthened by the conventional NSM technique. The embedment length of the CFRP strips was varied in order to increase the effect of the anchoring depth of the NSM and CNSM CFRP strips in the beam specimens. From the results of the test, the beam with the CNSM CFRP strip showed typical structural behavior similar to that of the beam with the NSM CFRP strip. Moreover, there was no apparent structural degradation resulting from the stirrup partial-cutting. Consequently, the CNSM strengthening technique can be suitably utilized for extensively damaged concrete structures where it is difficult to apply the conventional NSM technique.
