One of the major obstacles to classify and validate Land Cover maps is the high cost of acquiring reference data. In case of inaccessible areas such as North Korea, the high resolution satellite imagery may be used for reference data. The objective of this paper is to investigate the possibility of utilizing QuickBird high resolution imagery of North Korea that can be obtained from Google Earth data via internet for reference data of land cover classification. Monthly MODIS NDVI data of nine months from the summer of 2004 were classified into L=54 cluster using ISODATA algorithm, and these L clusters were assigned to 7 classes - coniferous forest, deciduous forest, mixed forest, paddy field, dry field, water, and built-up areas - by careful use of reference data obtained through visual interpretation of the high resolution imagery. The overall accuracy and Kappa index were 85.98% and 0.82, respectively, which represents about 10% point increase of classification accuracy than our previous study based on GCP point data around North Korea. Thus we can conclude that Google Earth may be used to substitute the traditional reference data collection on the site where the accessibility is severely limited.

Medical care practices include gathering a wide range of student data that are with manic episodes and depression which would assist the specialist with diagnosing a health condition of the students correctly. In this way, the instructors of the specific students will also identify those students and take care of them well. The data which we collected from the students could be straightforward indications seen by them. The artificial intelligence has been utilized with Naive Baye's classification, Random forest classification algorithm, SVM algorithm to characterize the datasets which we gathered to check whether the student is influenced by Bipolar illness or not. Performance analysis of the disease data for the algorithms used is calculated and compared. Also, a sequential deep learning model is builded using Keras. The consequences of the simulations show the efficacy of the grouping techniques on a dataset, just as the nature and complexity of the dataset utilized.
Satellite data play a major role in supporting knowledge about forest fire by delivering rapid information to map areas damaged. This study, we used 7 Sentinel-2A images to detect change area in forests of Sokcho on April 4, 2019. The process of classify forest fire severity used 7 levels from Sentinel-2A dNBR(differenced Normalized Burn Ratio). In the process of classifying forest fire damage areas, the study selected three areas with high regrowth of vegetation level and conducted a detailed spatial analysis of the areas concerned. The results of dNBR analysis, regrowth of coniferous forest was greater than broad-leaf forest, but NDVI showed the lowest level of vegetation. This is the error of dNBR classification of dNBR. The results of dNBR time series, an area of forest fire damage decreased to a large extent between April 20th and May 3rd. This is an example of the regrowth by developing rare-plants and recovering broad-leaf plants vegetation. The results showed that change area was detected through the change detection of danage area by forest category and the classification errors of the coniferous forest were reached through the comparison of NDVI and dNBR. Therefore, the need to improve the precision Korean forest fire damage rating table accompanied by field investigations was suggested during the image classification process through dNBR.

South Korea is divided into five ecoprovinces and sixteen ecoregions. The criteria for ecoprovince classification are ecosystem connectivity and cultural homogeneity. Ecoregions are classified by cluster analysis. The variables used in the analysis are latitude, longitude, seasonal mean temperature, and seasonal precipitation. The large forest fires occurred in the specific ecoregions including Kangwon coastal ecoregion, WoolYoung coastal ecoregion, Hyungsan Taehwa coastal ecoregion, Upper Nagdong river basin ecoregion and Southeastern inland ecoregion. The largest forest fire in the korean history occurred in Kangwon coastal ecoregion in the year 2000. The fire devastated the forestland over 25,000ha. Korea Forest Service, Ministry of Environment, Province Kangwon and NGO organized an investigation committee for the restoration of the burnt area. The committee suggested restoration principles and also forged a restoration strategy of the Kangwon burnt area.
This paper discusses the capabilities of airborne remotely sensed data to detect and classify forest damades. In this work the AMS (Aircraft Multiband Scanner) was used to obtain digital imagery at 300m altitude for forest damage inventory in the Black Forest of Germany. MSS(Multispectral Scanner) digital numbers were converted to spectral emittance and radiance values in 8 spectral bands from the visible to the thermal infrared and submitted to a maximum-likelihood classification for : (1) tree species ; and. (2) damage classes. As expected, the resulted, the results of MSS data with high spatial resolution 0.75m$\times$0.75m enabled the detection and identification of single trees with different damages and were nearly equivalent to the truth information of ground checked data.
We had developed in preceding study a classification model for the Korean pine and Larch with an accuracy of 98 percent using Hyperion and Sentinel-2 satellite images, texture information, and geometric information as the first step for tree species mapping in the inaccessible North Korea. Considering a share of major tree species in North Korea, the classification model needs to be expanded as it has a large share of Oak(29.5%), Pine (12.7%), Fir (8.2%), and as well as Larch (17.5%) and Korean pine (5.8%). In order to classify 5 major tree species, national forest type map of South Korea was used to build 11,039 training and 2,330 validation data. Sentinel-2 data was used to derive spectral information, and PlanetScope data was used to generate texture information. Geometric information was built from SRTM DEM data. As a machine learning algorithm, Random forest was used. As a result, the overall accuracy of classification was 80% with 0.80 kappa statistics. Based on the training data and the classification model constructed through this study, we will extend the application to Mt. Baekdu and North and South Goseong areas to confirm the applicability of tree species classification on the Korean Peninsula.

To investigate the structure of the plant community of Soribong area in Kwangnung forest, forty-six plots were set up by the clumped sampling method. The classification by TWINSPAN and four kinds of multivariate ordination(PO, PCA, RA, DCA) were applied to the study area in order to classify them into several groups based on woody plants and environmental variables. The classification had been successfully overlayed on an ordination of the same data using DCA. The plots can be classified into four groups by TWINSPAN and DCA. The successional trends of tree species by both techniques seem to be from Pinus densiflora through Quercus mongolica, Q. serrata, Q. aliena, Carpinus laxiflora, Sorbus alnifolia to C. cordata, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Cornus controversa in the canopy layer, and from Rhododendron mucronulatum, Rhus triohocarpa, Lespeoleza cyrtobotrya, Weigela subsessilis through Corylus sieboldiana, Lindera obtusiloba to Slaphylea bumalda, Callicarpa japonica, Lonicera maackii in the understory layer. As a result of the analysis for the relationship between the stand scores of DCA and environmental variables, they had a tendancy to increase significantly from the P. densiflora community to C. cordata community that was soil pH and the amount of humus, total nitrogen and exchangeable cations.

Forest degradation reduces ecosystem services provided by forest and could lead to change in composition of species. In North Korea, there has been significant forest degradation due to conversion of forest into terrace fields for food production and cut-down of forest for fuel woods. This study analyzed the phenological changes in North Korea, in terms of vegetation and moisture in soil and vegetation, from March to Octorber 2013, using MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) images and indexes including NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), NDSI (Normalized Difference Soil Index), and NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index). In addition, marginal farmland was derived using elevation data. Lastly, degraded terrace fields of 16 degree was analyzed using NDVI, NDSI, and NDWI indexes, and marginal farmland characteristics with slope variable. The accuracy value of land cover classification, which shows the difference between the observation and analyzed value, was 84.9% and Kappa value was 0.82. The highest accuracy value was from agricultural (paddy, field) and forest area. Terrace fields were easily identified using slope data form agricultural field. Use of NDVI, NDSI, and NDWI is more effective in distinguishing deforested terrace field from agricultural area. NDVI only shows vegetation difference whereas NDSI classifies soil moisture values and NDWI classifies abandoned agricultural fields based on moisture values. The method used in this study allowed more effective identification of deforested terrace fields, which visually illustrates forest degradation problem in North Korea.

In this study, we have developed a ligand-based in-silico prediction model to classify chemical structures into hERG blockers using Bayesian and random forest modeling methods. These models were built based on patch clamp experimental results. The findings presented in this work indicate that Laplacian-modified naive Bayesian classification with diverse selection is useful for predicting hERG inhibitors when a large data set is not obtained.

We investigated structure and intensity of 267 echolocation calls that were collected from the five Korean Myotis species (M. nettereri, M. petax, M. ikonnikovi, M. macrodactylus and M. formosus). All the Myotis species produced typical FM call pattern with similar echolocation call shapes and outer shapes, producing steep, downward frequency-modulated calls. A pulse has two harmonies, which consist of the first harmony with wider bandwidth and the second harmony with narrower bandwidth. The PF of the first harmony is higher than that of the second harmony. The typical FM call structure, with two harmonies and wide bandwidth, might be highly related to fast flying and wide screening in the dense forests. In classification of the echolocation calls by DFA, most of calls from the five species could be well correctly classified. All calls of M. nettereri (100% of 17 calls), M. formosus (95.5% of 22 calls) and M. ikonnikovi (85.7% of 70 calls) could be well discriminated from those of the other species, whereas calls of M. petax and M. macrodactylus could be discriminated by 70.4% of 98 calls and 76.7% of 60 calls, respectively. Our results indicate that the five Korean Myotis species can be well identified by the echolocation calls with high correct classification by DFA.
