  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of angle change of forefoot's adhesive outsole on the electromyographic activity (EMG) of the erector spinae and selected lower limbs muscle during downhill walking over $-20^{\circ}$ ramp. Thirteen male university students (age: $25.4{\pm}3.9$ yrs, height: $176.2{\pm}5.1$ cm, weight: $717.4{\pm}105.0$ N) who have no musculoskeletal disorder were recruited as the subjects. To assess the myoelectric activities of selected muscles, six of surface EMG electrodes with on-site pre-amplification circuitry were attached to erector spinae (ES), rectus femoris (RF), biceps femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA), lateral gastrocnemius (LG), and medial gastrocnemius (MG). To obtain maximum EMG levels of the selected muscles for normalization, five maximum effort isometric contraction were performed before the experimental trials. Each subject walked over $0^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ ramp with three different forefeet's EVA outsole (0, 10, $20^{\circ}$) in random order at a speed of $1.2{\pm}0.1$ m/s. For each trial being analyzed, five critical instants and four phases were identified from the recording. The results of this study showed that the average muscle activities of MG and LG decreased in $20^{\circ}$ shoes compared to $0^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ ones in the initial double limb stance (IDLS). In initial single limb stance (ISLS) phase, the average muscle activities of ES increased with the angle of forefoot's adhesive outsole, indicating that the increment of shoes' angle induce upper body to flex anteriorly in order to maintain balance of trunk. In terminal double limb stance (TDLS) phase, average muscle activities of TA significantly increased in $20^{\circ}$ outsole compared to $0^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ ones. There was no external forces acting on the right foot other than the gravity during terminal single limb stance (TSLS) phase, all muscles maintained moderate levels of activity.

  • This paper examines the design for improving the wiper system of rotorcraft. During rotorcraft operation, the wiping performance and excessive clearance can decrease. The wiper system consists of a wiper arm assembly, motor, convertor and flex drive. If there is a problem with the wiper system, the operation ability decreases because the operation is restricted in a rainy environment. There are two main causes of the problem of the wiper system: the lifting forces acting on the wiper arm in aircraft flight and the excessive gap of the components. To remedy these two problems, the wiper arm was improved. The improvements included increased contact pressure on the wiper arm (spring tension), improved gear clearance, and material and shape changes. Durability test, aircraft ground test and flight test were carried out to verify the improved shape, and it was confirmed that the wiping performance and clearance problems were solved. Currently, the rotorcraft is operated without problem by applying the improved shape, and this design improvement process will be a useful reference for future rotorcraft development.

  • There are increasing use of composite resin in the posterior teeth and the new indirect inlay technique was introduced for compensating much troubles faced in direct technique. Many researchers insisted that overall properties of restorative materials were enhanced by an additional curing but this technique still has a problems about using cement material. Resin inlay obtains retention force from friction and another adhesion to tooth structure. A shape of cavity preparation was noted but studies about cement thickness and bond strength with cavity divergency are rare. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of cavity divergency on cement thickness and bond strength of resin inlay. Cavities, which divergency was $6^{\circ}$, $16^{\circ}$, and $26^{\circ}$ in each group, were prepared and their divergency was verified by Adobe Photoshop program through the image capture with stereo microscope and FlexCam. Inlays were fixed into the cavities with a resin cement, Superbond and were handled under chemical (in 75% ethanol for 24 hrs.) and thermal stress (500 cycles from $5^{\circ}$ to $55^{\circ}C$). MXT 70 (x400) was used for measuring the cement thickness and bond strength was evaluated with a universal testing machine. Following results were obtained : 1. The cement thickness in Mean (S.D.) were; 35.58 (10.31)${\mu}m$ in $6^{\circ}$ group, 35.97 (10.49)${\mu}m$ in $16^{\circ}$ group, and 41.43 (9.33)${\mu}m$ in $26^{\circ}$ group. But there was no significant difference between groups. 2. The bond strength in Mean (S.D.) were ; 33.18 (5.53)kg in $6^{\circ}$ group, 23.47 (13.40)kg in $16^{\circ}$ group, and 19.75 (10.48)kg in $26^{\circ}$ group. $6^{\circ}$ group showed significantly higher value compared to $16^{\circ}$ and $26^{\circ}$ groups (p<0.05). Although the results of this study indicate $6^{\circ}$ divergency will be good for resin inlay, cavity preparation with this type will have lots of difficulties in manufacturing, try-in, and cementation procedures, such as deformation. So it is concluded that $16^{\circ}$ divergent cavity preparation is recommended in resin inlay technique.

  • In this paper SEED, the Korea Standard 128-bit block cipher algorithm is implemented with VHDL and mapped into one FPGA. SEED consists of round key generation block, F function block, G function block, round processing block, control block and I/O block. The designed SEED is realized in an FPGA but we design it technology-independently so that ASIC or core-based implementation is possible. SEED requires many hardware resources which may be impossible to realize in one FPGA. So it is necessary to minimize hardware resources. In this paper only one G function is implemented and is used for both the F function block and the round key block. That is, by using one G function sequentially, we can realize all the SEED components in one FPGA. The used cell rate after synthesis is 80% in Altem FLEXI0KlOO. The resulted design has 28Mhz clock speed and 14.9Mbps performance. The SEED hardware is technology-independent and no other external component is needed. Thus, it can be applied to other SEED implementations and cipher systems which use SEED.

  • The spawning behavior, development of eggs and larvae of the Korea freshwater goby, Rhinogobius brunneus (Temminck et Schlegel) were studied. The eggs were spawned as a one-layer mass, hanging from the underside of a small pebble, and guarded by one male. The eggs were elliptic, about 1.48 mm in length and 0.65 mm in breadth, with a round top and a somewhat flat base with glutinous fibers. Hatching in the indoor tank with $17.0^{\circ}C$ in mean water temperature started from the 146 hours after fertilization. In the late developing stages, the embryo moved and freely changed its head to face the free tip of the chorion (normal egg) or to the basal end with a boundle of adhesive filaments (agrippa egg). Newly-hatched larvae were $3.10\~3.30$ mm in total length (mean: 3.22 mm), and mouth and anus were not yet open. Melanophores were present on the air- bladder, around the anus, and on the ventral part of the caudal region. The larva $3\~4$ days old transformed to postlarval stage, and they were $3.30\~3.85$ mm in total length (mean: 3.60 mm). As yolk sac and oil globules werw nearly absorbed, mouth and anus were open, and they fed rotifers actively. In $20\~22$ days after hatching the larvae grew to 5.85 mm in 71, and the caudal notochord flex at $45^{\circ}$.

  • Background: The currently available reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) designs can be classified into medial glenoid/medial humerus (MGMH), lateral glenoid/medial humerus (LGMH), and medial glenoid/lateral humerus (MGLH) prosthesis designs. The purpose of this study was to radiologically analyze the effect of different RSA designs on humeral position following RSA. Methods: A total of 50 patients who underwent primary RSA were retrospectively analyzed. Among 50 patients, 33 patients (group A: MGMH) underwent RSA with Aequalis system (Wright, Inc, Bloomington, MN, USA), 6 (group B: LGMH) with Aequalis system using bony increased offset, and 11 (group C: MGLH) with Aequalis Ascend Flex system. The acromiohumeral distance, acromioepiphyseal distance (AED), lateral humeral offset (LHO), LHO from the center of rotation ($LHO^{COR}$), and deltoid length were radiologically measured to quantify the distalization and lateralization of the humerus. Results: The increment in postoperative AED was $19.92{\pm}3.93mm$ in group A, $24.52{\pm}5.25mm$ in group B, and $25.97{\pm}5.29mm$ in group C, respectively (p=0.001). The increment in postoperative LHO was $0.13{\pm}6.30mm$, $8.00{\pm}12.14mm$, and $7.42{\pm}6.88mm$, respectively (p=0.005). The increment in postoperative $LHO^{COR}$ was $20.76{\pm}6.06mm$, $22.04{\pm}5.15mm$, and $28.11{\pm}4.14mm$, respectively (p=0.002). Conclusions: The radiologic analysis of the effect of different RSA designs on humeral position following RSA showed significant differences in the increment in postoperative AED, LHO, and $LHO^{COR}$ between the 3 groups. Therefore, MGLH design seems to be more effective for humeral distalization and lateralization compared to original Grammont design.

  • Purpose: The efficacy of the amount of sealer in the root canal and two retreatment NiTi file systems in removing filling materials. Materials and Methods: Extracted premolars with a single root canal were selected for this study. After access opening and root canal preparation up to size #40/.06, the specimens were randomly divided into four groups. Gutta percha (GP) tapers of .06 or .04 were used for each group and filled using a single-cone filling technique with CeraSeal, a calcium silicate-based sealer. Each group was retreated either using the ProTaper Universal Retreatment System (PTUR) or the Hyflex Remover (HR). The time taken to remove the filling material, the amounts of apically extruded debris, and canal cleanliness were measured and compared. Results: The amount of sealer did not affect the efficiency when removing the filling materials. However, the filling material was removed faster in the HR group than in the PTUR group. Two types of NiTi files showed similar retreatment effects in the amounts of apically extruded debris and in the degree of canal cleanliness. Conclusion: The amount of sealer in canal filling had no significant effect on retreatability. Retreatment with HR removed filling materials is faster than PTUR. There was no difference in other removal efficiencies according to the type of retreatment NiTi file.

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of recent-generation patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure devices applied by a new selection strategy according to the characteristics of each PDA. Methods : From February 2003 to January 2006, 138 patients underwent transcatheter closure of PDA (study group). According to the size and morphology of each ductus, a COOK Detachable Coil or 'flex' PFM Nit-Occlud was used for a small ductus (group 1, n=43); 'medium' PFM Nit-Occlud (group 2, n=49) for a moderate ductus; and an Amplatzer Duct Occluder (group 3, n=46) for a large ductus. The 83 patients who underwent transcatheter closure of PDA from February 2000 to January 2003 were defined as the comparison group. The Qp/Qs ratio, pulmonary/aorta pressure ratio, and MD of the ductus were compared. Immediate and follow-up results including residual shunts and complications were also evaluated and compared among groups. Results : In all 138 patients, complete occlusions were confirmed without major complications, while procedure failure (n=2, 2.2%), device embolization (n=1, 1.1%), and persistent residual shunt (n=4, 4.5%) were documented in the comparison group. Total complication rates were lower in the study group than in the comparison group (study group, 1.4%; comparison group, 9.0%; P<0.05). Conclusion : A novel strategy adopting the merits of various recent-generation devices for transcatheter closure of PDA provides excellent clinical results with minimal risk.

  • Spawning behavior and development of eggs and larvae of Mugilogobius abei were observed in the laboratory at Pusan, Korea. The adult male of Mugilogobius abei was observed making nest-like spawning-bed to lay eggs and showing territorial and courtship behaviors. The eggs were transparent and spherical in shape, measuring 0.40~0.50 mm in diameter. They have a bundle of adhesive filaments at their basal end and a cluster of small oil globules. The eggs became ellipsoid shape after the insemination and measured about 0.93~0.96 mm on the long axis. Hatching began about 110 hours after fertilization at water temperature of $24.5{\sim}25.5^{\circ}C$. The newly hatched larvae were 2.04~2.10 mm in total length, with 24~25(8~9+16) myomeres. Many melanophore and guanophore are distributed on eye cups, gas bladder, optic vesicle and the caudal region. Four days after hatching the yolk and oil-globule were completely absorbed and the larvae attained a total length 2.20~2.35 mm. The larvae swam actively in the aquarium and start to practice feeding on the rotifer. Twelve days after hatching, the larvae averaged 3.20 mm in TL and the caudal notochord flex at $45^{\circ}$. Rudimental second dorsal, anal, caudal and ventral fins are also formed. The larvae attained 10.40~10.80 mm in TL, 35 days after hatching, are found to start the bottom-life after having completely formed first dorsal and ventral fins. The larvae reached the juvenile stage at 50~60 days after hatching and attained 15.37~20.25 mm in TL. At this period all scales appeared on the body.

  • The gobiid fish, Luciogobius guttalus Gill has an anguilliform with some blackish and reddish brown color in life. It grows up to 90mm in total length. The specimens have been collected from several localities in the southern parts of Korea and Hokkaido, Japan. During the ebb tide, the fish was found in high level of intertidal zone exposed to the air among pebbles in the hollows and slopes of rocks. There are also some other small gobiid fishes comprising 3 species of relative gobies and 1 species of blennioid fish. A total of 5 egg masses were collected from the coast of Haeundae in April to May 1990. Each egg mass was deposited in one layer on the underside of a stone embedded in pebbles and guarded by the male parent. The eggs are club-shaped ranging from 2.71 to 2.80mm in long axis and from 0.65 to 0.74mm in short axis. The eggs were hatched in 98 hours after incubatied at the temperature varying from 19.5 to $25.5^{\circ}C$The newly hatched larvae were from 3.85 to 4.00mm in total length with 35~36 myomeres. In eleven days after hatching, total length reached 5.50mm. The part of the fin-fold of the future dorsal and anal fins became high. In sixteen days after hatching, the lavae averaged 6.20mm in total length and the caudal notochord flex at $45^{\circ}$. The larvae reached the juvenile stage in 48~50 days after hatching and attained 12.80~14.00mm in total length, and all fin-rays was formed. Ossification of the cranium took place at 5.50mm of mean total length in parasphenoid and basioccipital. Ossification of the visceral skeleton occurred in areas where active movements of bones are required, notalbly in the parts of feeding and respiration. Vertebrae began to develop from the anterior end to ossify posteriorly. Neural and haemal spines of vertebrae ossified always prior to the corresponding centra. When larvae reached to about 6.60mm in mean total length (17~18 days after hatching), jaw bones were more repidly ossified than vertebrae and cranium. Ossification of all bones nearly completed when the larvae reached to 13.40mm in mean total length (47~50 days after hatching).
