  • As muscular contraction is sustained, the Fourier spectrum of the myoelectric signal is shifted toward the lower frequency. This spectral density is associated with muscle fatigue. This paper describes a quantitative measurement method that performs the measurement of localized muscle fatigue by tracking changes of median frequency based on stationary wavelet transform. Applying to the human masseter muscle, the proposed method offers the much information for muscle fatigue, comparing with the conventional FFT-based method for muscle fatigue measurement.

  • This paper presents a high-throughput area-efficient mixed-radix fast Fourier transform (FFT) processor using the efficient scheduling schemes. The proposed FFT processor can support 64, 128, 256, and 512-point FFTs for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, and can achieve a high throughput using mixed-radix algorithm and eight-parallel multipath delay commutator (MDC) architecture. This paper proposes new scheduling schemes to reduce the size of read-only memories (ROMs) and complex constant multipliers without increasing delay elements and computation cycles; thus, reducing the hardware complexity further. The proposed mixed-radix MDC FFT processor is designed and implemented using the Samsung 65nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The experimental result shows that the area of the proposed FFT processor is 0.36 mm2. Furthermore, the proposed processor can achieve high throughput rates of up to 2.64 GSample/s at 330 MHz.

  • In this paper, we propose the channel estimation scheme for Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) downlink system. The proposed scheme uses the fast fourier transform (FFT) interpolation scheme for the user moving at a high speed. The FFT interpolation scheme converts the channel frequency response obtained from least square (LS) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) channel estimation scheme to time domain channel impulse response by taking the inverse FFT (IFFT). After windowing the channel response in the time domain, we can obtain the channel frequency response by taking the FFT. We perform the system level simulation based on 20MHz bandwidth of 3GPP LTE-A downlink system. Simulation results show that the proposed channel estimation scheme can improve signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SINR), throughput, and spectral efficiency of conventional system.

  • In this paper, we will discuss the characteristics of the magnitude and the phase of the piano sound in frequency domain by using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform). The method deciding the parameters representing those sounds through the mathematical model is described. We used the curve fitting method for the modeling of the harmonic part of the sound including the fundamental frequency in order to minimize the errors between original sounds and modeled sounds. furthermore, we used the line segment approximation method for the modeling of the noise part around fundamental frequency. We also applied the same method for the phase model and could get the modeled sound to be similar to the original sound using the parameters. Therefore the high compression ratio comparing the modeled sound to the original sound is achieved.

  • In this paper, we analyze and simulate the performance of a pilot signal detection algorithm based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) for several system parameters in order to detect advanced television system committee digital television (ATSC DTV) signals. Requirements for detecting DTV signals are analyzed. And the detection performance is compared according to sensing frequency and time. Form the simulation results, it is confirmed that the signal detection performance increases as the sensing frequency rises. The results of this paper can be applied for implementing cognitive radio (CR) systems in the frequency band of DTV signals.

  • The applications of the electrical transmission line theory to the pressure propagation characteristics in the volume loaded fluid transmission line with step and impulse input wave is demonstrated in this paper. The method is based on the premise that the time response is the inverse Fourier transform of frequency spectrum of the wave which spectrum is a product of frequency spectrum of input pressure wave and system transfer function. The frequency response and transient response of step and impulse input wave in the volume loaded fluid transmission line is analysed by the Laplace transform and inverse Laplace transform with FFT numerical algorithm. The numerical solution of the distributed friction model is compared with the average friction model and the infinite product model. And the result is showed that FFT method may have major advantages for the simulation of fluid circuitary.

  • Wireless mobile communication systems request high speed mobility and high speed data transmission capability. In order to meet the requirements, OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) is mainly adopted in the physical layer of the wireless systems. In commercial wireless mobile systems, IEEE802.(11a, 16e, etc) series seem to be used as the modulation method. For supporting multiple air-interfaces in a wireless mobile system, different kinds of OFDM based modulation methods should be supported in one modem chip. It requires a variable point IFFT/FFT or reconfigurable IFFT/FFT processor. In this paper, we propose the design method of a reconfigurable IFFT/FFT processor. In addition, it is shown that a reconfigurable IFFT/FFT processor can he implemented by using the proposed method.

  • In FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) implementation, DIT(Decimation-In-Time) and DIF (Decimation-In-Frequency) methods are mostly used. Among them, various DIF structures such as Radix-2/4/8 algorithm have been developed. Compared to the DIF, the DIT structures have not been investigated even though they have a big advantage producing a sequential output. In this paper, a butterfly structure for DIT Radix-8 algorithm is proposed. The proposed structure has smaller latency time because of Radix-8 algorithm in addition to the advantage of the sequential output. In case of 4096-point FFT implementation, the proposed structure has only 4 stages which shows the smaller latency time compared to the 12 stages of Radix-2 algorithm. The proposed butterfly can be used in FFT block required the sequential output and smaller latency time.

  • It is important to analyse the frequency spectrum for the measurement of modulated signal, distortion, and noise. The frequency spectrum analysis is performed by the execution of Radix-2 DIT DFT i.e. FFT algorithm. The discrete input signal converted by A/D converter from the input signal in time domain is mathematically transformed to the frequency spectrum by FFT algorithm. In this study, we design the digital spectrum analyser by the hardware based on the TMS320F2812 DSP and AD9244 converter, and by the software based on the C28x S/W modules. We can timely analyse the frequency spectrum in mobile communication system by the digital frequency analyser based on the high performance DSP and S/W modules. This real-time analysing capability is the important performance in the internet-based mobile communication server system.

  • Wavelet transform has localization for time or frequency. It is useful to analyze a nonstationary signal. Basic function on wavelet transform is generated dilating and translating the original wavelet(mother wavelet). In this paper, time-frequency analysis method using linear combination wavelet transform is proposed. And it is applied to diagnostic monitoring system using the proposed linear combination wavelet transform. The stationary and nonstationary signal is used linear chirp signal, fan noise signal, a sinusoid signal from revolution body, electronic signal. Transform applied to signal analysis use fast Fourier transform (FFT), Daubechies, Haar and proposed linear combination method. The result of time-frequency analysis using linear combination wavelet transform is suited for portraying nonstationary time signal as well as stationary signal. Also the diagnostic monitoring system carry out the effective the signal analysis.
