Dietary mehaden oil enhances mucosal hyperplasia that normally occurs after massive small bowel resection. In contrast, dexamethasone and aspirin inhibit the adaptation response. In order to gain insight on the mechanism of these effects, male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing approximately 150gram were randomly divided into two groups and fed diet containing either 15% safflower oil or 14% menhaden oil and 1% safflower oil. Ten days later they were subjected to 70% jejunoilear resection. Immediately after surgery each group was further divided into two groups and receive either vehicle or 125ug/kg/day dexamethasone subcutaneously. All animals were sacrificed seven days after the surgery, and the remaining intestine was removed and divided at the anastomotic site. Dexamethasone, which decreased gut hyperplasia in both dietary groups, decreased both serum IGF-I levels and ileral PGE2 synthesis. Menhaden oil enhanced gut hyperplasia, but did not increase IGF-I or IGF-II levels in serum. PGE2 synthesis was lower in the ileum of menhaden oil-fed rats compared to that of safflower oil-fed rats. The effects of menhaden oil on adaptation did not apper to be mediated either through IGFs or PGE2 synthesis. Other factors could have played a role in enhancing adaptation following menhaden oil feeding.
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze web sites that provide child-care information and to provide a proper model for child-care web sites. Method: The evaluation tool with 23 items including purpose, contents, timeliness and reliability, interaction, and function was developed and modified. Quantitative analyses of 48 web sites, which were selected using popular search engines, were done. Result: 1) The aim of the web site was clearly shown for 24 sites (63.2%) and 17 sites (44.7%) provided the information for judging whether the informant was an expert. 2) Most web sites provided information on feeding, nutrition, and common health problems, and 11 sites provided information on care of problem behavior, but only 6 sites provided information on mother-infant interaction. 3) Timely information was provided on 21 sites, however none of the sites provided information sources. 4) Methods for contact the authors were found for 31 sites (81.6%) and 19 sites (50%) had active bulletin boards to receive opinions from users. 5) There were 32 sites where information could be found by clicking less than 3 times. Conclusion: We suggest that the evaluation criteria for child-care web sites used in this study is a tool that can be used to evaluate web sites with consistency, but there is a need for further study to develop standardization of the evaluating tool.
By using the finite element method, the Oyane's ductile fracture integral I was calculated from the histories of stress and strain according to every element and then the forming limit of hydroforming process could be evaluated. The fracture initiation site and the forming limit fer two typical hydroforming processes, tee extrusion and bumper rail under different forming conditions are predicted in this study. For tee extrusion hydroforming process, the pressure level has significant influence on the forming limit. When the expansion area is backed by a supporter and bulged, the process would be more stable and the possibility of bursting failure is reduced. For bumper rail, the ductile fracture integral I is not only affected by the process parameters, but also by the shape of preforming blank. Due to no axial feeding on the end side of the blank, the possibility of cracking in hydroforming of the bumper rail is influenced by the friction condition more strongly than that of the tee extrusion. All the simulation results show reasonable plastic deformation, and the applications of the method could be extended to a wide range of hydroforming processes.
Thirty Holstein calves were used to determine effects of age, environment and sex on blood metabolite concentrations during 1 to 90 d of age. Calves were weaned at 75 d of age. Environmental effects are grouped by the difference in month at birth and site of feeding. Blood samples were obtained every 2 or 3 d. The mean metabolite concentration every 3 d was used for the statistical analysis. Dairy bodyweight gain was not affected by environmental group and sex effect. Concentrations of plasma glucose, nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA), triglyceride, total cholesterol and total ketone changed with growth. These developmental changes in metabolite levels would be caused by ruminal maturation with increment of grain intake. Levels of plasma urea nitrogen, glucose, NEFA, triglyceride and total cholesterol drastically changed during a few weeks after birth, indicating that the physiological state in calves greatly changed during that time. Effects of the environmental group and sex were significant in almost all metabolites. Temperature influenced plasma metabolite concentrations. The plasma metabolite concentrations were affected more intensely by heat stress in the infant period than in the neonatal period.
Although postanastomosis of esophageal reconstruction is rare but it is a very unwelcome complication. Previously, the problem was solved by balloon dilatation, reoperation, and feeding jejunostomy. However, balloon dilatation is not effective because of high recurrence rate, reoperation is difficult due to its operative approachableness and also jejunostomy is inconvenient for patients. Therefore, we inserted esophageal stent as a method of relieving postanastomosis stenosis, From Jan, 2001 to Dec, 2001, there were three patients with postanastomosis stenosis, who received esophageal stent insertion, one had case is benign esophageal stenosis, two had esophageal carcinoma. We followed up them over 12 months after inserting the stent, Dysphagia was improved, so we report that the clinical performance was satisfactory
The results of reconstruction of the lower esophagus with jejunum in a total of 24 cases of primary carcinoma of the lower third esophagus and gastroesophageal carcinoma were presented, and clinical values of substitution for the esophagus with jejunum were also discussed. They were operated in the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, Hanyang University Hospital during the period of 9 years from 1972 to 1981. Surgical managements to lower esophageal reconstruction with jejunum were carded out with not the same procedure in all cases studied, but with three different procedure mentioned below/ In 13 cases of lower third esophagectomy with or without partial `8astrectomy of a total of 24 cases, interposition of jejunum between the esophagus and the stomach were performed after the fashion to esophagojejunostomy with mobilized jejunal loops and 8astro-JeJunostomy with side to side anastomosis. In 7 cases of lower third esophagectomy and total gastrectomy, the continuity of the esophagus were performed the fashion to esophagojejunostomy with mobilized jejunum. In 4 cases of unresectable gastro-esophageal carcinoma, bypass operation of the lower esophagus and the stomach were performed after the fashion to esophagojejunostomy with side to and anastomosis. After the bypass operation, it was observed that oral feeding to the patients was excellent. Following these consecutive series of 20 cases of radical operation for lower esophageal carcinomas and 4 cases of bypass operation for unresectable gastroesophageal carcinomas, no complication such as postoperative leakage and stenosis from anastomotic site or Infection In operating area and operative death were observed.

Cystic hygroma is the benign proliferation of lymphatic tissue and has been categorized as a part of a larger spectrum that includes lymphangiomas recently. The majority of lymphangiomas occur in the head and neck as cystic hygromas with the posterior cervical region as the most common site. Cystic hygromas present in infancy or early childhood as compressible masses that may rapidly and intermittently enlarge. Cystic hygromas of the head and neck are especially difficult to manage since enlargement cause serious sequela such as airway obstruction, feeding difficulties, and speech pathology. Surgical exision remains the treatment of choice. But complete extirpation of these lesions is often impossible, and recurrence rates are accordingly different respectively ; these are high in suprahyoid lesions compared with infrahyoid involvement. This is a case report about 22 year old male patient with cystic hygrom. We obtained the successful, functional and esthetic results by surgical excision of the mass. Therefore, we report the case with literatural reviews.

Gangliosides are receptors for various peptides and proteins including neuropeptides, ${\beta}$-amyloid proteins, and prions. Recently, the role of gangliosides in mucosal immunization has attracted attention due to the emerging interest in oral vaccination. Ganglioside GM1 exists in abundance on the surface of the M cells of Peyer's patch, a well-known mucosal immunity induction site. In the present study we identified a peptide ligand for GM1 and tested whether it played a role in immune induction. GM1-binding peptides were selected from a phage-displayed dodecapeptide library and one peptide motif, GWKERLSSWNRF, was fused to the C-terminus of enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP). The fusion protein, but not EGFP fused with a control peptide, was concentrated around Peyer's patch after incubation in the lumen of the intestine ex vivo. Furthermore, oral feeding of the fusion protein but not control EGFP induced mucosal and systemic immune responses against EGFP resembling Th2-type immune responses.
Aortoesophageal fistula induced by endoesophageal stent is rare; however, it is usually a fatal disorder, with few survivors reported. We report a case of a 32-year old female with aortoesophageal fistula after insertion of the esophageal stent in esophageal lye stricture who was successfully diagnosed with endoscopy and treated in a two-stage operation. In the first stage, we performed esophagectomy, primary repair of the fistula site in the descending thoracic aorta, and feeding gastrostomy. After the patient recovered well postoperatively, a retrosternal interposition of the right colon and cervical esophago-colo-grastostomy were performed, to re-establish the gastrointestinal tract.
