  • Korea's first Naro-Science small class satellite was launched by Naro launcher in 2013. The structure of the satellite is mostly composed of aluminum honeycomb and frame. The honeycomb structure is homogenized with asymptotic homogenization method and its mechanical properties were used for the numerical analysis. There have been some difficulties to modeling the honeycomb sandwich panels for FEA. In the present study, the mechanical characteristics of the sandwich panel composite were numerically computed and used for the simulation. This methodology makes it easy to overcome the weakness of modeling of complicated sandwich panels. Both an experiment of vibration test and numerical analyses were conducted simultaneously. The analysis results from the current homogenization were compared with that of experiment. It shows a good agreement on the dynamic responses and certified the reliability of the present methodology when manipulate sandwich panel structure.

  • A moving-magnet type pickup actuator has an assembly error . That is, the actuating part of an actuator is shifted from initial position after we assemble it into yoke. This is the result of an effect of magnetic force between magnet and yoke. We performed magnetic-analysis using FEA. As a result of simulation, we improved the assembl ing efficiency for moving-magnet type actuator.

  • A 4-beam cross type silicon elastic body was fabricated for the electromagnetic type vibration micro transducer. To improve energy transfer efficiency, the structure and size of vibration transducer were optimized by the FEA simulation package. Experimental results of the fabricated transducer shows $0.5{\sim}8$ dyne of vibration force at the condition of $1{\sim}4$ mA of current source $100{\sim}7000$ Hz of frequency band width. These results presented the useful applications for micro actuators and sensors.

  • In this study, finite element analysis of particle-surface collision using 2-dimensional elements was performed to observe the effects of abrasive size and impact angle. The result of the simulation on the change in abrasive size revealed that larger abrasive particle induced larger contact stress due to force transfer through slurry fluid as the particle moved and pushed the fluid. This observation brought an important finding that the slurry fluid could make the workpiece surface soften and then change the mechanical properties of the surface layer such as elastic modulus and yield strength. As for the impact angle, it was found that the contact stress increased with the angle of impact and jumped up at a specific angle. Such result would be attributed to the complex effects of the impact velocity and angle.

  • In the high speed driving conditions, the vibrational phenomena with relation to chassis system are becoming more important factors in chassis design and development. In this paper Commercial Dynamic program is used to model middle size bus for brake judder phenomenon. To verify the effects of a body structure in brake judder, body structure is modeled in flexible. Also mode shapes and frequencies are obtained from Commercial FEA program in the same condition of experimental test. The simulation results are compared to the experimental results and summarized

  • Thermal energy control is a important factor to control properties of large sized product in ingot-forging. Good control of thermal energy helps to increase characteristics and eliminate defects of large cast-forged part, such as large sized forged shell. We have studied about not only large size ring forging process and after heat treatment process by FEM simulation. Changes of temperature and microstructure for forged shell were predicted according to different heat treatment conditions. Therefore, we can choose the proper heat treatment condition by FEA. The sectional properties confirmed by practical experiment and evaluation have presented possibilities of process design by computational analysis.

  • In this paper, the study of the optimum design for a geometry of the handle bar to obtain a high stiffness and light weight is investigated, using EDISON simulation program. High stiffness and weight lightening are considered as the major performance indicators of the component of the bicycle. Four design factors and three levels of the design factors are selected for the structural optimization and experiments are designed using the orthogonal array of L9 by Taguchi method. We calculated SN ratio of larger-the-better and smaller-the-better characteristics from FEA results and analysed the effects of design factors on characteristics. We choosed the optimum level of design factors based on deflection and safety factor. Comparing the results of FE analysis with converted value of predicted SN ration, we made sure for reliability of Taguchi method and FE method for structural optimization.

  • In hot press forming process, the desired high strength can be obtained through quenching process after cold forming of product. The quenching process, however, accompanies undesired distortion due to the volume change during the phase transformation as well as by thermal contraction. In this study the numerical simulation with DEFORM3D-Microstructure is used to predict the deformed shape during the quenching for the quenching fixture design.

  • This paper describes the accurate inductance measurement of a switched reluctance motor (SRM). Conventionally, the inductance of the SRM is measured using the equivalent circuit of a stator phase or time constant of exponential current transient. This paper presents an effective method to measure the SRM inductance accurately and rapidly using automated voltage integration. The proposed method is validated experimentally by comparison with the existing equivalent circuit method (ECM) and the FEA(finite element analysis) simulation.

  • A voice-coil-type LOA consists of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure. We have to obtain the back-EMF constant ${\kappa}_E$ from 3D FEA and experiments, precisely. The ${\kappa}_E$ and other parameters provide the transfer function, through which is derived the frequency response characteristics. Inverter-fed LOA is examined aiming to compare with results of simulation.
