  • The torsion beam axle type is widely used in the rear suspension for small passenger cars due to low cost, good performance, etc. To develop the torsion beam axle, it is necessary to estimate the characteristics of rear suspension from the design process. The characteristics estimation of the torsion beam axle is performed using FEM, dynamic simulation and is verified the real test. In this study, the natural frequency and roll stiffness of the torsion beam axle were measured by FEM, and the reliability of the FE model was evaluated according to the comparison of test data. This study presents a unique method for the finite element modeling and analysis of the torsion beam axle. The results of the FEA were verified using test data.

  • In this study, simulation on the powder compression forming of oilless bearing is performed and the analysis results are compared with the actual products. This study aims to examine the suitability of powder compression for bearing by using FEA(finite element analysis) before full-scale production. The lubrication state can be predicted by changing the coefficient of friction in order to get the optimal density gradient. Analysis for single and double action presses are performed and these results are compared with each other. State and process of optimal lubrication are proposed from the study result.

  • A piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler, usually used to remove the tartar out of teeth and to amputate the pubis, is a recently popular instrument for dental treatment due to its several merits such as small size, low-electric power, precision and low-cost. It has typically two parts of a tip and vibration system, which is also composed of head, piezoelectric elements and tail-mass. The scaler concentrates its displacement on tip and has commonly a resonance frequency at 25~30 kHz, and in order to improve the performance of the scaler, it is important to standardize the size of the vibration system without tip for high performance because scaler in quality differs according to several tips. In this study, a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was utilized to optimize the structure of ultrasonic scaler in the vibration system. Consequently, this study revealed that influence of several tips on property were minimized and scaler showed good property at the resonance frequency of 28 kHz.

  • The strain distribution in the vicinity of a hole in a tensile strip was measured using an image correlation method. The objective of this study is to evaluate the capability of predicting the strain component response using a constitutive model that was developed for use with paper materials. The need for a special constitutive model for paper derives from the characteristics of pronounced anisotropy and the fact that the material behaves differently under compressive loading than it does under tensile loading. The results of the simulation showed that predictions of strain distribution around the hole were in agreement with the experimental result trends, however, the agreement deteriorated as the edge of the hole was reached. It was observed that there is extensive inelastic strain that takes place around the hole prior to failure of the tensile strip. The simulation results showed that any difference between tensile and compressive behavior that may exist for paper material does not have any significant effect for the problem of this study because the level of compressive stress is quite low in comparison with compressive failure values.

  • Inductive power transfer (IPT) is an attractive power transmission solution that is already used in many applications. In the IPT system, optimal coil design is essential to achieve high power efficiency, but the effective design method is yet to be investigated. The inductance formula and finite element method (FEM) are popular means to link the coil geometric parameters and circuit parameters; however, the former lacks generality and accuracy, and the latter consumes much computation time. This study proposes a novel coil design method to achieve speed and generality without much loss of accuracy. By introducing one-turn permeance simulation in each FEM phase combined with curve fitting and optimization by MATLAB in the efficiency calculation phase, the iteration number of FEM can be considerably reduced, and the generality can be retained. The proposed method is verified through a 100 W IPT system experiment.

  • Among various kinds of hearing aids which have been developed so far. the conventional air conduction hearing aids have some problems such as the acoustic distortion, an howling effect due to acoustic feedback. Another type of hearing aid. the cochlear implant system can be applied to the profound imparied person. However. it shows the disadvantage that there is no possibility of recovery of the acoustic organ such as ossicle. On the other hand. the implantable middle ear heaving device directly vibratos the ossicular chain and has better sound qualify. good cosmetics for appearance. and wide frequency responses so that it can overcome the defects or the conventional hearing aids. In this paper, a mathematical modeling and a momentum equation derivation of the DET has been performed. For the optimization of the structure dimension generating maximal vibrating force of the DET. the computer simulation using a finite element analysis (FEA) software has been performed. Also. the vibrating transducer has been designed to make the frequency characteristics or the transducer be similar to those of the normal middle ear. Through the experimental results, the measured vibration characteristics of the DET has been evaluated to verify the performance for the application to implantable middle ear hearing devices.

  • A circuit model for active-controlled field emitter array(ACFEA) as an electron source of active-controlled field emission display(ACFED) has been proposed. The ACFEA with hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin-film transistor(a-Si:H TFT) and Spindt-type molibdenum tips (Spindt-Mo FEA) has been fabricated monolithically on the same glass. A-Si:H TFT is used as a control device of field emitters, resulting in stabilizing emission current and lowering driving voltage. The basic model parameters extracted from the electrical characteristics of the fabricated a-Si:H TFT and Spindt-Mo FEA were implemented into the ACFEA model with a circuit simulator SPICE. The accuracy of the equivalent circuit model was verified by comparing the simulated results with the measured one through DC analysis of the ACFEA. The transient analysis of the ACFEA showed that the gate capacitance of FEA along with the drivability of TFT strongly affected the response time. With the fabricated ACFEA, we obtained a response time of 15$mutextrm{s}$, which was enough to make 4bit/color gray scale with the pulse width modulation (PWM).

  • In this paper, PMPG (Piezoelectric Micro Power Generator) was investigated by ANSYS FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to decrease operating frequency and improve out power. The micro power generator was designed to convert ambient vibration energy to electrical power as a ZnO piezoelectric material. To find optimal model in low vibration ambient, the shape of power generator was changed with different membrane width, thickness, length, and proof mass size. Used the ANSYS modal analysis, bending mode and stress distribution of optimal model were analyzed. Also, the displacement with the frequency range was analyzed by harmonic analysis. From the simulation results, the resonance frequency of optimal model is about 373 Hz and confirmed the possibility of ZnO micro power generator for wireless sensor node applications.
