Realtime Simulation of Deformation due to Line Heating for Automatic Hull Forming System (곡가공 자동화 시스템을 위한 선상가열에 의한 변형의 실시간 시뮬레이션)

  • Line heating is a method widely used in forming ship hull surface. From the viewpoint of mechanics it is large deformation thermal elasto-plastic problem of arbitrary shaped plate. Many researches have been carried out to resolve this problem. Especially, Jang et al.[1] proposed a simplified thermal elasto-plastic analysis method to predict effectively the deformation of plate due to line heating. In this paper, we improved the method of Jang et al.[1] by considering tension yielding in temperature decreasing stage and verified with experimental results. FEA program using MITC4 degenerated shell element was made to deal with elastic large deformation problem. The newly proposed method can be used in the simulation and control of forming hull surface for higher productivity with simplicity and efficiency.

  • This study focuses on the manufacturing process of a magnesium alloy impeller used for the fuel cell car using the hot forging technology. The impeller has the very complicated shape with sharply curved blade and thus generally produced by mechanical machining or casting process. However, since these technologies give the high manufacturing cost or poor mechanical properties, the forging technology is required to make the high-quality impeller with the lower manufacturing cost. In order for production of the impeller by forging technology, the parametric studies using finite element analyses were carried out to find the optimal perform shape of impeller made of magnesium alloy AZ 31 and finally die design was proposed based on the simulation results.

Investigation of anomalous hardening in NiAl Single crystals at intermediate temperatures (중간온도 영역에서의 NiAl 단결정 이상 경화거동에 대한 연구)

  • The hardening model based on the dislocation mechanics is employed to study the experimentally observed high tensile elongations of NiAl along the [110] orientation at intermediate temperatures. In the hardening model proposed, a mobility of dislocation is assumed to be restricted to glide through the slip plane by forest dislocation and thermally activated cross-slip event. Overall deformation behavior of NiAl was greatly influenced by temperature-dependent dislocation mobility that both experimental and simulated yield stresses decreased as temperature increased. The results of simulation showed anomalous hardening behaviors analogous to those of experiment at certain circumstances. This behavior occurred due to the hardening contributions generated by cross-slip events that disable the dislocation motion in the primary slip systems. By comparing simulation results with experiments, it is confirmed that the proposed hardening model can represent anomalous tensile elongations due to the hardening by forest dislocations and cross-slip events.

  • The bracket tilt among automobile parts is weld parts which construct the column assembly bracket tilt of equipments and accurate dimension after welding is more essential than weldment strength. By the way, it is insufficient that systematic study about this parts which have an importance on welding deformation. The reason is that welding deformation is complex problem with shape, size, material of parts and welding sequence, conditions etc. For reduction and removal of welding deformation, therefore, it is necessary that the security of welding deformation data and systematic examination about equipment, costs, work environment, manufacturing process etc. It is all the better that the prediction of welding deformation using simulation of welding process by FEA is supplemented. In this study, the countermeasure for this welding deformation of bracket tilt is brought up through experimental inspection before the choice of the optimum welding conditions with minimum welding deformation by simulation of welding process.

Three-dimensional numerical simulation and cracking analysis of fiber-reinforced cement-based composites

  • Three-dimensional graphic objects created by MATLAB are exported to the AUTOCAD program through the MATLAB handle functions. The imported SAT format files are used to produce the finite element mesh for MSC.PATRAN. Based on the Monte-Carlo random sample principle, the material heterogeneity of cement composites with randomly distributed fibers is described by the WEIBULL distribution function. In this paper, a concept called "soft region" including micro-defects, micro-voids, etc. is put forward for the simulation of crack propagation in fiber-reinforced cement composites. The performance of the numerical model is demonstrated by several examples involving crack initiation and growth in the composites under three-dimensional stress conditions: tensile loading; compressive loading and crack growth along a bimaterial interface.

  • A computer simulation has been performed for the application to the elastoplastic stress analysis in a discontinuous composite solid. To obtain the internal field quantities of composite the micromechanics analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) were implemented. As the procedure the reasonably optimized FE mesh generations the appropriate imposition of boundary condition and the relevant postprocessing such as elastoplastic thermomechanical analysis were taken into account. For the numerical illustration an aligned axisymmetric single fiber model has been employed to assess field quantities. It was found that the proposed simulation methodology for stress analysis is applicable to the complicated inhomogeneous solid for the investigation of micromechanical behavior.

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) makes acoustic noise of electronic devices. Conversed piezoelectric effect of dielectric substance consists of $BaTiO_3$ causes vibration of MLCC so it must be analyzed to reduce the noise. Thus, finite element model for piezoelectric analysis of MLCC was constructed in this paper. Piezoelectric characteristics of MLCC was considered for the accurate simulation result. Displacement response for sinusoidal voltage signal was measured and simulation result was verified with test result.

  • Thermal energy control is a important factor in a large size casting and forging. Good control of thermal energy makes characteristics and defect of large cast-forged part, such as large sized forged shell. We have studied about not only large size ring forging process and after heat treatment by FEM simulation. Also, changes of temperature and microstructure for forged shell were predicted. Therefore, we can choose the proper heat treatment condition by FEA. The sectional properties confirmed by practical experiment and evaluation have presented possibilities of process design by computational analysis.

  • VR(Virtual Reality)의 개념이 제조공학 분야로 확대 적용되면서 설계분야에서의 가상조형 (Virtual Prototyping), 제조분야에서의 가상제조시스템(Virtual Manufacturing System)이라는 새로운 형태의 제조 시스템 및 설계기술이 차세대 제조기술로서 발전해 오고있으며 이런 가상제조방법(Virtual Manufacturing)은 컴퓨터를 이용하며 생산과정에서 제품뿐만이 아니라 유한요소해석을 유용하여, 공정까지도 모의실험을 하며 생산성(manufacturability), 최종 형태(final shape), 잔류 응력(residual stress), 제품 수명 주기(life-cycle)등과 같은 요소들의 최적화 정보를 제공하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 가상제조방법을 구현하기 위한 기초적 단계로서 가상단조기계를 가상현실기법을 이용하여 모델링하고 Java를 이용하여 모델링된 단조기계를 제어하고 제조되는 단조물에 대한 내부 응력 및 형태변환을 유한 요소법을 이용하여 분석하고 분석된 단조물의 자료를 WEB상을 통하여 닥 수 있게 유한 요소 해석결과를 VRML언어로 변환하는 작업을 수행하였다.

  • SRM drive systems are designed to meet operating standards such as low cost, constant torque independent of rotor position, a desired operating speed range, high efficiency, and high performance. In applications using small motors, low cost and high performance with self-starting capabilities are highly desired. This paper discusses a novel two phase SRM (TPSRM) that has high performance characteristics with self-starting capability, low manufacturing cost with a two phase inverter and simple magnetic structure, and high efficiency. The principle of operation, analysis, and simulation for design are presented. The machine design is verified using finite element analysis (FEA) software. Analysis and simulation results are given to validate the TPSRM design.
