  • In this work, we have prepared tungsten doped vanadium oxide ($W-VO_2$) particles with a low phase transition temperature. $W-VO_2$ particles were synthesized via thermolysis method using vanadyl (IV) sulfate and ammonium bicarbonate as precursors. The structure and thermochromic property of synthesized $W-VO_2$ particles were investigated by FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, XPS, and DSC analysis. The prepared $W-VO_2$ showed a nearly platy morphology, which indicates that the tungsten was successfully doped in the crystal lattices of $VO_2$. $W-VO_2$ nanoparticles with the size of 60 nm exhibited a monoclinic crystal structure and its chemical composition and surface state were also likely to be close to that of $VO_2$. In addition, the phase transition temperature of $W-VO_2$ was $38.5^{\circ}C$, which was approximately $29.2^{\circ}C$ lower than that of pure $VO_2$ ($67.7^{\circ}C$), indicating that the prepared sample had a good reversible thermochromic stability.

  • Evaluation of three-dimensional ore body modeling has been performed by applying the geostatistical integration technique to multiple geophysical (electrical resistivity, MT) and geological (borehole data, physical properties of core) information. It was available to analyze the resistivity range in borehole and other area through multiple geophysical data. A correlation between resistivity and density from physical properties test of core was also analyzed. In the case study results, the resistivity value of ore body is decreased contrast to increase of the density, which seems to be related to a reason that the ore body (magnetite) includes heavy conductive component (Fe) in itself. Based on the lab test of physical properties in iron mine region, various geophysical, geological and borehole data were used to provide ore body modeling, that is electrical resistivity, MT, physical properties data, borehole data and grade data obtained from borehole data. Of the various geostatistical techniques for the integrated data analysis, in this study, the SGS (sequential Gaussian simulation) method was applied to describe the varying non-homogeneity depending on region through the realization that maintains the mean and variance. With the geostatistical simulation results of geophysical, geological and grade data, the location of residual ore body and ore body which is previously reported was confirmed. In addition, another highly probable region of iron ore bodies was estimated deeper depth in study area through integrated modeling.

  • The egg shell membrane degrading isolated from soil was identified as Bacillus licheniformis by 16S rDNA identification method. A keratinase was isolated from the Baciilu licheniformis culture. DEAE-cellulose ion-exchange and Sephadex C-75 gel chromatograhies were used to purify the enzyme. The specific activity was increased 17.3-fold by the purification procedures. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis and Sephadex G-75 chromatography indicated that the purified keratinase was monomeric and had a molecular weight of 65 kDa. The enzyme showed optimum activity at pH 9.0, and was stable above pH 9.0. The optimum temperature was 50$\^{C}$ and the enzyme was stable in the temperature ranges from 20$\^{C}$ to 50t. By the addition of 1 mM and 10 mM FeSO4, the activities of the enzyme were increased to 111$\pm$4.6% and 133$\pm$3.79%, respectively. The keratinase was an alkaline serine pretense because it was inhibited only by phenylmethylsulfonylfluorice (PMSF).

  • In this study, the $Ni_{0.9}Co_{0.05}Ti_{0.05}(OH)_2$ precursor was prepared by the concentration gradient co-precipitation method. In order to overcome the structural change due to oxygen desorption in the cathode active material with high nickel content, the physical and electrochemical analysis of the cathode active material according to the calcination temperature were investigated. Physical properties of $Li_{1.05}Ni_{0.9}Co_{0.05}Ti_{0.05}O_2$ were analyzed by FE-SEM, XRD and TGA. The electrochemical performance of the coin cell using a cathode active material and $LiPF_6$(EC:EMC=1:2 vol%) electrolyte was evaluated by the initial charge/discharge efficiency, cycle retention, and rate capabilities. As a result, the initial capacity and initial efficiency of cathode materials were excellent with 244.5~247.9 mAh/g and 84.2~85.8% at the calcination temperature range of $750{\sim}760^{\circ}C$. Also, the capacity retention exhibited high stability of 97.8~99.1% after 50cycles.

  • Exchange coupling of Co/NiMn bilayers fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering method was studied. We investigated the variation of exchange coupling field (H$\sub$ex/) for different annealing temperature and time. The maximum exchange coupling field was obtained after 13hr annealing at 300 $^{\circ}C$. With respect to deposition sequence, it was demonstrated that NiMn-top bilayers had higher exchange coupling field than NiMn-bottom bilayers. Ta capping layer was shown to be essential in achieving exchange coupling and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) proved that uncapped NiMn/Co bilayers did not have exchange coupling because of oxygen incorporation into film. We also observed the effect of Ta underlayer on exchange coupling. It was found that Ta underlayer had better not be used for attaining higher exchange coupling. XRD analysis showed that Ta underlayer helped bilayers develop texture, but it was not essential to exchange coupling of Co/NiMn bilayers, which is in contrast to NiFe/NiMn system. Furthermore, the NiMn and Co thickness dependence of exchange coupling has been investigated. The exchange coupling strength reached the maximum above 200 ${\AA}$ NiMn thickness and had inversely proportional relation with Co thickness.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation among mineral intakes, blood pressure, and blood lipids for health management of Korean adults over 20 years old. Subjects were recruited from the district where they lived, which included rural (Yoju, n = 137) , coastal (Taean, n = 100) , and urban district (Suwon, n : 117) . hnthropornekical measurement, blood pressure measurement, dietary intake assessment using 24-hour recall method, and blood collection and analysis of blood lipids were conducted. The average age, height, weight, and BMI were 54.1 years, 168.5 cm, 67.3 kg, and 24.5 kg/$m^{2}$ for men and 53.9 years,153.8 cm,59.2 kg, and 25.0 kg/$m^{2}$ for women, respectively. The mean daily intakes of total food and energy were 1219.1 g and 1740.9 kcal for men and 1071.3 g and 1432.6 kcal for women. The mineral intakes of men and women were 448.5 mg and 400.4 mg for calcium,955.3 mg and 803.7 mg for phosphorus, 13.3 mg and 11.1 mg for iron, 4302.8 mg and 3393.3 mg for sodium,2588.0 mg and 2264.9 mg for potassium, and 8.9 mg and 7.3 mg for zinc. The daily intakes of energy, calcium, zinc, vitamin $B_{2}$, and vitamin I were $76.1\%$, $60.1\%$, $73.1\%$, $68.6\%$, and $80.4\%$ of RDAs, respectively. The intakes of energy, calcium, zinc, vitamin $B_{2}$ and I were not meet Korean RDAs. Especially, calcium, zinc, and vitamin $B_{2}$ were less than $75\%$ of RDAs. Blood pressure of the subjects was 128.3/75.5 mmHg for men and 124.1/73.7 mmHg for women. Serum lipids of men and women were 180.2 mg/dL and 184.9 mg/dL for total cholesterol, 160.8 mg/dL and 137.6 mg/dL for triglyceride,41.5 mg/dL and 44.7 mg/dL for HDL-cholesterol,106.6 mg/dL and 112.7 mg/dL for LDL-cholesterol, and 3.5 and 3.3 for atherogenic index. While serum triglyceride and AI of men was significantly higher, HDL-cholesterol was lower than those of women. In the relation among mineral intakes, blood pressure, and serum lipids, we found a significantly negative correlation of intakes of calcium, calcium/phosphorus, calcium density with systolic blood pressure. There were significantly negative correlation between intake of calcium/phosphorus and serum cholesterol, calcium density and serum cholesterol, sodium intake and serum HDL-cholesterol. Based on these results, we concluded that high intakes of calcium, calcium/phosphorus and low sodium intake were associated with favorable blood pressure and serum lipid profiles in adult men and women. • This study aims to develop a FE Model to simulate dissimilar friction stir welding and to address its potential for fundamental analysis and practical applications. The FE model is based on Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian approach. Multiphysics systems are calculated using explicit time integration algorithm, and heat generations by friction and inelastic heat conversion as well as heat transfer through the bottom surface are included. Using the developed model, friction stir welding between an Al6061T6 plate and an AZ61 plate were simulated. Three simulations are carried out varying the welding parameters. The model is capable of predicting the temperature and plastic strain fields and the distribution of void. The simulation results showed that temperature was generally greater in Mg plates and that, as a rotation speed increase, not the maximum temperature of Mg plate increased, but did the temperature of Al plate. In addition, the model could predict flash defects, however, the prediction of void near the welding tool was not satisfactory. Since the model includes the complex physics closely occurring during FSW, the model possibly analyze a lot of phenomena hard to discovered by experiments. However, practical applications may be limited due to huge simulation time.

  • Glass pieces excavated from Mireuksa Temple dated $7^{th}$ century A.D. were characterized by chemical composition, specific gravity and melting point. Lead isotope ratios of lead glasses were also compared with those of lead ore to attribute which lead ore was delivered for making lead glass. It was known that some lead glasses found in Japan were similar with those of Mireuksa Temple as comparing the data of chemical composition and lead isotope ratios. Characteristics of lead glass from Mireuksa Temple Thirty five glass pieces of Mireuksa Temple were analyzed for five oxides and found that all was lead glass system(PbO-$SiO_2$) with the range of 70~79% for PbO and 20~28% for $SiO_2$. The concentrations of oxides such as $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$ and CuO were below 0.4%, 0.3% and 0.9%, respectively. Principal component analysis(PCA) as a statistical method was carried out to classify glasses with the similarities of chemical concentrations. The result of PCA has shown that three groups of glasses were created according to the excavation positions and two major oxides(PbO and $SiO_2$) greatly contributed to the dispersion of glasses on principal component 1(PC1) axis and trace element oxides($Al_2O_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$) for PC2 axis. Most of lead glasses were greenish by the efficacy of iron and copper oxides and some showed yellowish-green. The gravity of lead glasses was about 4.4~5.4 and estimated melting point was near $670^{\circ}C$. Lead isotope ratios of glasses were analyzed and found quite close to a lead ore from the Bupyeong mine in Gyeonggi-do. Comparison with lead glasses found in Japan Lead glasses of Mireuksa Temple were compared with those of Japan on the basis of chemical and physical data. Chemical compositions of Japanese lead glasses dated $7^{th}{\sim}8^{th}$ century A.D. were nearly similar with those of Mireuksa Temple but lead isotope ratios of those were separated into two groups. Three distribution maps of lead ores of Korea, Japan and China with lead isotope ratios were applied for lead glasses found in Japan. The result have shown that the locations of lead glasses from Fukuoka Prefecture coincided with the region of northen part of Korea and similar with those of Mireuksa Temple and lead glasses from Nara Prefecture dated $8^{th}$ century A.D. were located in the region of Japanese lead ore. This research has demonstrated that lead glasses of Mireuksa Temple conveyed to Miyajidake site, Fukuoka Prefecture around $7^{th}$ century A.D. and glass melting pots and glass beads excavated from Nara Prefecture confirmed the first use of Japanese lead ore for production of lead glasses from the end of $7^{th}$ century A.D.

  • The oxidation slag has been widely used in civil engineering project, whereas the reduced slag from electric furnace has yet to be applied. Consequently in order to find out the recycling method in civil engineering field, the mineral compositions of the reduced slag were analyzed and some tests on water quality were performed to estimate the potential release of toxic compounds. Slag-soil mixtures of 0, 10, 20 and 30%(dry weight) soil were prepared in lysimeter columns and the effluents were collected with the period of one, two and four week options in closed system, respectively. The result from qualitative and quantitative analysis using X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and X-ray Fluorescence(XRF) indicates that the main mineral of the reduced slag is $Ca_2(SiO_4)$, a kind of calcium silicate. Also, the leaching medium analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy(ICP-OES) showed that main heavy metals such as Al, Fe and Mn are included in the reduced slag due to the effect of steel production process. It can be seen that the leachate does not violate the regulation guide line of waste material of heavy metal. Also the pH levels were increased from pH 6.9 for 0% soil to pH 10 for 30% soil. However the influence on leachate circulation period of one through four weeks was negligible.

  • This study examines the results of analyses of the lead isotope ratio and chemical composition of lead glass and green glaze from ancient Northeast Asia in order to suggest their production sites and reveal further characteristics. The comparison of the lead isotope ratio of lead glass and green glaze from two Baekje remains in Iksan-the Wanggung-ri Site and Mireuksa Temple Site-suggests that they were produced to the west of the South Gyeonggi Massif (Zone 4) using lead extracted from the same area. With a few exceptions, it has proved difficult to identify the production sites of most of the green-glazed roof tiles from Unified Silla-period Buddhist temples across Northeast Asia. The major component of the lead glass from Baekje, Silla, China, and Japan during the seventh century is PbO, SiO2, Al2O3, CuO, and Fe2O3, with a ratio of PbO and SiO2 of 70 and 30 wt.%, respectively. The green-glazed roof tiles excavated from a temple from the Unified Silla period have a high proportion of lead, ranging from 64 to 90 wt.%. Green-glazed lozenge tiles excavated from the Sacheonwangsa Temple site in Gyeongju were shown to contain PbO, SiO2, Al2O3, and CuO, a similar composition with lead glass. An experiment was conducted to reproduce a glaze according to the production method mentioned in the Zō hotokesho sakumotsu-chō (Buddhist statue workshop crop book) in the Shosoin Repository. In this experiment, an identical ratio of PbO was observed for Japanese green-glazed ceramics from the eighth to eleventh century as that found in Chinese lead-glazed ceramics excavated from kilns operated from the seventh to tenth century in Henan. This indicates that production methods for lead glass and glaze were shared across Northeast Asia.
