The phase transformations and the shape memory effect in In-rich Pb alloys and In rich-Sn alloys have been studied by means of X-ray diffractometry supplemented by metallographic observations. The alloys containing 12~15 at.%Pb transform from the ${\alpha}_2$ (fct) phase to the ${\alpha}_1$ (fct) phase by way of an intermediate phase (m phase) on cooling. The results of X-ray diffraction show that the metastable intermediate phase is observed both on cooling and heating, and has a face-centered orthorhombic (fco) structure. It is concluded that the ${\alpha}_1{\rightleftarrows}{\alpha}_2$ transformation is expressed by the ${\alpha}_1{\rightleftarrows}m{\rightleftarrows}{\alpha}_2$ transformation both on usual cooling and heating with the rate more than $8{\times}10^{-3}$ K/s. The $m{\rightleftarrows}{\alpha}_2$ transformation takes place with a mechanism involving macroscopic shear and are of diffusionless (martensitic) type. The temperature hysteresis in the two transformations is 10~13 K between the heating and cooling transformations. The alloys containing 0~11 at.%Sn are -phase solid solutions with a face centered tetragonal structure (c/a > 1) at room temperature, the axial ratio increasing continuously with tin content. The In-(11~15) at.%Sn alloys are mixtures of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases, the ${\beta}$ phase having a f. c. tetragonal structure (c/a < 1). The alloys containing more than 15 at.%Sn are ${\beta}$-phase solid solutions. The In-(12.9~15.0) at.%Sn alloys show a shape memory effect only when quenched to the temperature of liquid nitrogen, although their effect becomes weak and finally disappears after keeping at room temperature for a long time. The ${\beta}{\rightarrow}{\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase transformation is of the diffusionless (martensitic) type, and takes place between 330 K at 12.9 at.%Sn and 150 K at 14.5 at.%Sn. The hysteresis of transformation temperatures on heating and cooling is considerably large (29~40 K), depending on the composition. Both In-Pb and In-Sn alloys showed distinct the shape memory effects.

Background The posterior ledge (PL) is a vital structure that supports the implant posteriorly during orbital floor reconstruction. This study describes a technique for mapping the PL in relation to the infraorbital margin (IM) in patients with orbital floor blowout fractures. This study establishes the location of the optic foramen in relation to the PL. Methods Facial computed tomography (FCT) scans of 67 consecutive patients with isolated orbital floor blowout fractures were analyzed using Osirix. Planes of reference for orbital fractures, a standardized technique for performing measurements on FCT, was used. Viewed coronally, the orbit was divided into seven equal sagittal slices (L1 laterally to L7 medially) with reference to the midorbital plane. The distances of PL from IM and location of optic foramen were determined. Results The greatest distance to PL is found at L5 (median: 30.1 mm, range: 13.5-37.1 mm). The median and ranges for each slice are as follows: L1 (median: 0.0 mm, range: 0.0-19.9 mm), L2 (median: 0.0 mm, range: 0.0-21.5 mm), L3 (median: 15.8 mm, range: 0.0-31.7 mm), L4 (median: 26.1 mm, range: 0.0-34.0 mm), L5 (median: 30.1 mm, range: 13.5-37.1 mm), L6 (median: 29.0 mm, range: 0.0-36.3 mm), L7 (median: 20.8 mm, range: 0.0-39.2 mm). The median distance of the optic foramen from IM is 43.7 mm (range: 37.0- 49.1) at L7.
Degradation and recovery of damping capacity in a Cu-65%Mn alloy have been studied. When the alloy was isothermally aged at $400^{\circ}C$, the highest damping capacity was observed after aging for 4 hours. In case when the alloy aged at $400^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours was maintained at $100^{\circ}C$, the damping capacity gradually decreased with time. The microstructural observations showed that the formation of subdomains and ${\alpha}$-Mn precipitates are responsible for the degradation of damping capacity. When the degraded specimen was reheated at $250^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes, the damping capacity was recovered considerably owing to the redistribution of impurity atoms, the extinction of subdomains and the release of damping sources from ${\alpha}$-Mn precipitates during the repeated transformation, fcc${\leftrightarrow}$fct.
지금까지 연료전지 시스템의 효율을 극대화시키기 위한 기술들이 개발되어 왔는데, 대표적인 방법은 CHP(Combined Heat & power)와 FCT(Fuel cell & Turbine) Hybrid 시스템이다.
New Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) forthe United States and Canada have recently been set for both macronutrients and micronutrients, and are likely to be of interest to health professionals in Korea as well. DRIs are now available for nutrients that did not have Recommended Dietary Allowances set in the past (amino acids, n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, total fiber, added sugar, choline, boron, nickel, and vanadium). Furthermore, the units for the DRIs do not always match those traditionally carried on food composition tables (FCTs). FCT developers will also need to consider carrying new variables to allow the calculation of folate intake in $\mu$g of dietary folate equivalents, vitamin E intake as mg of a-tocopherol (not as mg of a-tocopherol equivalents), and vitamin A intake as $\mu$g of retinol activity equivalents (not as $\mu$g of retinol equivalents). Because the new recommendations for upper levels of intake sometimes refer to a specific form or source of a nutrient, nutrients occurring in foods must be separated from added or supplemental forms for vitamin E, niacin, and folate; pharmacological magnesium must be carried as a separate variable; and preformed vitamin A must be separated from vitamin A from carotenoids. For more information on the DRIs, see: www.nap.edu.
The paper begins by presenting a unified variational approach to the lateral-torsional buckling (LTB) analysis of doubly symmetric prismatic and tapered thin-walled beams with open cross-sections, which accounts for the influence of the pre-buckling deflections. This approach (i) extends the kinematical assumptions usually adopted for prismatic beams, (ii) consistently uses shell membrane theory in general coordinates and (iii) adopts Trefftz's criterion to perform the bifurcation analysis. The proposed formulation is then applied to investigate the influence of the pre-buckling deflections on the LTB behaviour of prismatic and web-tapered I-section simply supported beams and cantilevers. After establishing an interesting analytical result, valid for prismatic members with shear centre loading, several elastic critical moments/loads are presented, discussed and, when possible, also compared with values reported in the literature. These numerical results, which are obtained by means of the Rayleigh-Ritz method, (i) highlight the qualitative differences existing between the LTB behaviours of simply supported beams and cantilevers and (ii) illustrate how the influence of the pre-buckling deflections on LTB is affected by a number of factors, namely ($ii_1$) the minor-to-major inertia ratio, ($ii_2$) the beam length, ($ii_3$) the location of the load point of application and ($ii_4$) the bending moment diagram shape.
Numerical simulation of an axisymmetric ethylene-air jet diffusion flame has been carried out in order to investigate flame dynamics and soot formation. The model solves the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations and includes models for soot formation, chemical reaction, molecular diffusion, thermal conduction, and radiation. Numerically FCT(Flux Corrected Transport) and DOM(Discrete Ordinate Method) methos are used for convection and radiation trasport respectively. Simulation was conducted for a 5 cm/sec fuel jet flowing into a coflowing air stream. The maximum flame temperature was found to be approximately 2100 K, and was located at an axial position of approximately 5 cm from the base of the flame. The maximum soot volume fraction was about $7{\times}10^{-7}$, and was located within the high temperature region where the fuel mole fraction ranges from 0.01 to 0.1. The buoyancy-driven low-frequency(12~13 Hz) structures convected along the outer region of the flame were captured. In case without radiation trasport, the maximum temperature was higher by 150 K than in case with radiation. Also the maximum soot volume fraction reached about $8{\times}10^{-6}$. As the the hydrocarbon fuel forms many soot particles, the radiation transport becomes to play a more important role.
A thermal barrier coating (TBC) with self-healing property for cracks was proposed to improve reliability during gas turbine operation, including structural design. Effect of healing agent on crack propagation behavior in TBCs with and without buffer layer was investigated through furnace cyclic test (FCT). Molybdenum disilicide ($MoSi_2$) was used as the healing agent; it was encapsulated using a mixture of tetraethyl orthosilicate and sodium methoxide. Buffer layers with composition ratios of 90 : 10 and 80 : 20 wt%, using yttria stabilized zirconia and $MoSi_2$, respectively, were prepared by air plasma spray process. After generating artificial cracks in TBC samples by using Vickers indentation, FCTs were conducted at $1100^{\circ}C$ for a dwell time of 40 min., followed by natural air cooling for 20 min. at room temperature. The cracks were healed in the buffer layer with the healing agent of $MoSi_2$, and it was found that the thermal reliability of TBC can be enhanced by introducing the buffer layer with healing agent in the top coat.

Multi-layer film of $MgO/(FePt-B)_{50nm}/ MgO$ was deposited on Si(100) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The boron chips were uniformly placed oil tile FePt target. The boron content of thin film was found to be about 5, 10, 15, 25 and $33 at\%$ by using a CAMECA SX-51 wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (WDX). It is observed that X-ray diffraction patterns of FePt-B film by post-annealing exhibited a transformation from disordered fcc structure to ordered $Ll_0$ phase with fct structure from around $400^{\circ}C$. By adding B, annealing temperature for ordering is about $200^{\circ}C$ lower than that of pure FePt. This remarkable decrease of the annealing temperature is closely related to the high diffusivities of Fe and Pt associated with the defects caused by movements of B atoms. The maximum coercivity(Hc) for FePt films was found to be ${\~}$13 kOe after annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1hr.
The crystallization of FePt/MgO(100) magnetic thin films of various thicknesses has been studied using synchrotron x-ray scattering, atomic force microscope, and vibrating sample magnetometer. In film with a 500-${\AA}$-thick, ordered (fct) FePt phase was dominantly crystallized into perpendicular (001) grains keeping the magnetically easy c-axis normal to the film plane during annealing. In film with a 812-${\AA}$-thick, however, longitudinal (110) grains keeping the c-axis parallel to the film plane were grown on top of the perpendicular (001) grains. The behavior of the magnetic properties was consistent with the thickness dependence of the crystallization. We attribute the thickness dependence of the crystallization to the substrate effect, which prefers the growth of the c-axis oriented perpendicular grains near the film/substrate interfacial area.
