  • This paper has an purpose to study the effect of C on the toughness of YS 460 MPa FCAW weld metal. These effects were evaluated by charpy impact and CTOD test about 4 FCAW weld metal containing various C and Si content in relation to microstructure. Increase of C content was helpful to increase AF volume fraction and reduce PF(G) and FS volume fraction by increasing super cooling rate for ferrite transformation. Also, Increase of C content up to 0.045wt% made the strength and impact toughness higher by increasing AF volume fraction. The weld metal containing higher C content indicated higher CTOD value. It is because the volume fraction of PF(G) and FS, can play a role as crack initiation site, was reduced. Effect of C on the strength and elongation of weld metal was higher with an increase of Si contents.

  • This paper has an aim to study the effect of PWHT and its conditions(peak temperature and holding time) on the tensile properties and impact toughness of FCAW weld metal in relation to microstructure. Impact toughness was evaluated to apply the cargo tank of liquified gas carriers under the various PWHT condition of each class societies. On the basis of these study, it was found that PWHT conditions within all class societies affect charpy absorbed energy of weld metal little or no, all PWHT weld metals kept similar level of charpy absorbed energy as as-weld weld metal down-to $-60^{\circ}C$ and finally indicated lower energy value than that of as-weld weld metal at $-75^{\circ}C$. It is because the precipitation of 2nd phase was controlled from welding consumable and the grain size was grown by PWHT.

  • Both impact and fracture toughnesses were investigated with root gaps in FCAW weld metals at room temperature and 0.deg.C. The maximum impact value was obtained at the root gap of 16mm for 1G position weld metal, and the impact value of 3G position weld metals also showed the maximum impact value at the root gap of 12mm. However, the fracture toughnes(CTOD)values tend to decrease with increasing root gaps at both temperatures in 1G weld metal. Bending test also showed satisfactory results with all of root gaps investigated. Based on this result, it becomes possible to apply wide root gaps in real projects in both aspects of toughness and bending resistance.

  • This study has been performed to investigate the adhesive slag at GTAW weld zone after FCAW multi-pass welding. The cause of adhesive slag formation was examined using optical microscope, field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and XRD analysis. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. Slag of GTAW weld zone surface during welding were formed by mixing the presence of slag in FCAW weld zone. While the slag cools, Cr-spinel phase were formed due to reactions in slag/metal interface. Also, a Cr moves form the weld metal to the slag to strong affinity between oxide atoms and Cr atoms. Hence, detachability of slag was exacerbated by decreasing the interfacial tensions between slag and weld metal.

  • 590MPa grade weldable steels were gas metal arc welded with flux cored wires. Welding parameters such as current, voltage, and speed were varied independently. Effects of each parameter on the strength and chemical composition of weld metal were investigated. Increase of voltage caused decrease of weld metal tensile strength due to the low recovery of alloying elements such as carbon and manganese. On the contrary, increase of current and speed resulted in increase of weld metal strength because of higher recovery of the alloying elements.

  • Recently, Inconel 625 is used widely in offshore processing piping in order to extend the maintenance tenn and improve the quality of anti-corrosion. According to the resistance to attack in various corrosive media at temperatures from $200^{\circ}C$ to aver $1090^{\circ}C$, in combination with good low- and high-temperature mechanical strength. In general, High quality weldments for this material are readily produced by commonly used processes. in recent years, the flux cored arc welding(FCAW) process is becoming more popular due to higher deposition rate and a better weld quality as compared to the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process, at the same time, exhibiting equally good weld metal toughness similar to the SAW process. In this study, the weldability and weldment characteristics(mechanical properties and corrosive environment) of Inconel 625 are considered in FCAW weld associated with the several weld shielding gases($80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$) in viewpoint of welding productivity.

  • FCAW has wide application in ship fabrication, maintenance and field erection. It has many advantages over SMAW.SAW and GMAW process. In many applications, the FCAW provides highquality weld metal. This method can reduce weld defects especially porosity and spatter. But the fatigue characteristics of those deposited metal have been rarely investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cyclic stress-strain behavior and fatigue tests by the constant strain control were carried out on the rounded smooth specimen with deposited metal using the metal type flux cored wire. As the results of this study for the deposited metal welded by the metal type flux cored wire, the hardening or softening characteristics under cyclic load were investigated and cyclic stress-strain curve, strain-fatigue life curve, stress-strain function and fatigue life relation which are useful to estimate the fatigue life under the stress concentration condition were obtained.

  • Above all Ni-alloys Inconel 625 is used widely in plate of welding structural materials such as turbine case, a combustor of liner. In general, weldability of Inconel 625 is not well because of poorly liquids of weld metal also it have a broken probability oj the welding crack. In case of FCAW weld process, it is not easy to develope of welding materials, because it is possible only fillet welding at view position of look down except for butt welding. But recently, though it is more used by FCAW process, owing to welding materials worked at the vertical position. the study for FCAW weld of Inconel 625 is actively not yet worked. In this study, the weldability and weld characteristics(mechanical characteristics, corrosive property) of Inconel 625 are considered in FC4W weld associated with the several shielding gases$80\%Ar\;+\;20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar\;+\;50\%\;CO_2,\;100\%\;CO_2$ in viewpoint of welding productivity. The results of impact test are follows; It was evaluated 70J at shielding gase of $100\%\;CO_2$, and obtained about 35J at the other shielding gases. If it was used for parts be required the impact value at the extremely low temperature, it is expected to have the advantage of using the $100\%\;CO_2$ shield gase than the others.

  • Multipass self-shielded flux cored arc welding with different heat inputs (1.3–2.0 kJ/mm) was conducted to determine the effects of the heat input on the proportion of the reheated region, impact toughness, and diffusible hydrogen content in the weld metal. The reheated region showed twice the impact toughness of the as-deposited region because of its fine grained ferritic-pearlitic microstructure. With decreasing heat input, the proportion of the reheated region in the weld metal became higher, even if the depth of the region became shallower. Accordingly, the greatest impact toughness, 69 J at −40℃, was obtained for the lowest heat input welding, 1.3 kJ/mm. Irrespective of the heat input, little difference was observed in the hardness and diffusible hydrogen content in the weld metal. This result implies that low heat input welding with 1.3 kJ/mm can be performed to obtain a higher proportion of reheated region and thus greater impact toughness for the weld metal without the concern of hydrogen cracking.
