  • During the course of studying the helminth fauna from the fishes of the Korean coastal waters, two bucephalid species, Dolichoenterum longissimum Ozaki, 1924 and Prosorhynchus aculeatus Odhner, 1905, were collected from the alimentary canal of the conger eel, Conger myriaster. D. longissimum was characterized by having the ovary between the testes, and 7-8 horn-like projections on the ventral side of rhynchus. P. aculeatus was distinguished from the other species by the location of the mouth or the opening position of the excretory vesicle. These two bucephalid digeneans are new to the Korean fauna.

  • The muricid species collected from 49 localities (72 sites) of Korean coast were examined. The Korean muricid fauna was recognized as 26 species of 15 genera in consequence of the present study along with the reviews of the previous records. Among the species examined, 5 of Mancinella echinata (Blainville, 1832), Morula spinosa (A. Adams, 1853), Boreotrophon paucicostatus Habe and Ito, 1965, Boreotrophon cymatus Dall, 1902, and Boreotrophon alaskanus Dall, 1902 were not reported in the Korean fauna previously. Korean muricids are suggested as subtropical, temporal, and boreal species distributed throughout the coastal areas of Korea with their own ranges.

  • As a result of examining the specimens collected from various freshwater bodies since 1995, four eutardigrades are added to Korean fauna: lsohypsibius brevitubulatus n. sp., I. baldii (Ramazzotti), I. marcellinoi (Binda and Pilato), and Diphascon (Diphascon) higginsi Binda. I. brevitubulatus n. sp. differs from its congeners by having a combination of the following characteristics: smooth cuticle, rather big body size, short and broad buccal tube, presence of lunules, and pharynx bearing 3 rod-like macroplacoids without microplacoid. All the species are illustrated and briefly commented on their habitats with the associated fauna.

  • Micronesia is an island nation located north of Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean. A survey was executed on Kosrae, which is one of the four main islands of Micronesia, during January 23-30, 2011 and January 8-15, 2012. The echinoderms were collected at eight intertidal areas and at 12 SCUBA diving points at depths of 10-50 m in the subtidal zone. They were identified based on morphological characteristics. In total, 50 species from 276 individuals were identified: three crinoids, 11 asteroids, seven ophiuroids, 10 echinoids, and 19 holothuroids. Among them, two crinoids, five asteroids, three ophiuroids, four echinoids and two holothuroids were newly recorded from Kosrae.

  • Two species of squat lobsters, Raymunida formosanus Lin, Chan and Chu, 2004 and Raymunida lineata Osawa, 2005, are newly added to the Korean decapod fauna. The genus Raymunida Macpherson and Machordom, 2000 is also reported for the first time in Korea. It differs morphologically from other Korean genera, Munida and Paramunida, in having the first to third pereopods with epipods and the carpus of the third maxilliped with a distal spine on flexor margin. Illustrations and pictures of these two species are provided with descriptions, and the key to the species of Korean Munidids is also provided.

  • The Federated States of Micronesia consists of four states of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae, which are located in the West Pacific Ocean. In order to investigate molluscan fauna of Kosrae Island, field survey was made twice from 21st to 30th of January, 2011 and from 6th to 17th of January, 2012 for four localities including 10 intertidal and 14 subtidal zones of Kosrae Island. The mollusk samples collected were identified based on their morphological characteristics, comprising a total of 120 species from 30 families through this survey. In this study, we provided species list and illustrations for 120 species identified, and combined these with the previous record, resulting in a total of 208 species from 47 families in Kosrae Island.
