  • We propose a method to measure atrial arrhythmias (AA) such as atrial fibrillation (Afb) and atrial flutter (Afl) with a SQUID magnetocardiograph (MCG) system. To detect AA is one of challenging topics in MCG. As the AA generally have irregular rhythm and atrio-ventricular conduction, the MCG signal cannot be improved by QRS averaging; therefore a SQUID MCG system having a high SNR is required to measure informative atrial excitation with a single scan. In the case of Afb, diminished f waves are much smaller than normal P waves because the sources are usually located on the posterior wall of the heart. In this study, we utilize an MCG system measuring tangential field components, which is known to be more sensitive to a deeper current source. The average noise spectral density of the whole system in a magnetic shielded room was $10\;fT/{\surd}Hz(a)\;1\;Hz\;and\;5\;fT/{\surd}Hz\;(a)\;100\;Hz$. We measured the MCG signals of patients with chronic Afb and Afl. Before the AA measurement, the comparison between the measurements in supine and prone positions for P waves has been conducted and the experiment gave a result that the supine position is more suitable to measure the atrial excitation. Therefore, the AA was measured in subject's supine position. Clinical potential of AA measurement in MCG is to find an aspect of a reentry circuit and to localize the abnormal stimulation noninvasively. To give useful information about the abnormal excitation, we have developed a method, separative synthetic aperture magnetometry (sSAM). The basic idea of sSAM is to visualize current source distribution corresponding to the atrial excitation, which are separated from the ventricular excitation and the Gaussian sensor noises. By using sSAM, we localized the source of an Afl successfully.

  • We studied the effects of vibration stimulation method on upper limbs spasticity in patients with brain lesion. 21 patients with spasticity of the upper limbs selected and divided randomly 3 groups. And then vibratory stimulation was applied to the triceps brachii muscle in group I(n=7), to biceps brachii muscle in group II (n=7), and to both muscles in group III (n=7). Using Neuro-EMG_Micro to investigate the changes in spinal neuronal excitability, F-waves were measured at before and directly after stimulation, and 10 minutes later and 20 minutes later after stimulation especially. MAS(Modified Ashworth Scale) test for muscle tone and MFT(Manual Function Test) for the upper extremity motor function were performed before stimulation and 20 minutes later after stimulation for the purpose of clinical evaluation. In our study, MAS was significant decreased in all groups, F wave and F/M ratio parameters were decreased in all groups and more decreased specially in group III. MFT was increased in group II and III, and more increased specially in group III. Vibration stimulation reduced the neuronal excitability of spinal cord and also muscle tone, and improved the motor function of the upper extremity. These results suggested that vibration stimulation giving to both muscles(triceps and biceps brachii muscle) at the same time was more efficiency in reducing the neuronal excitability of spinal cord and improving the motor function of the upper limbs.

  • In this study, the basic concept of design response spectrum is briefly revi-ewed. To generate the artificial earthquake acceleration, the method of superpo-sition of cosine waves is used. Theoretical developments using F.F.T. and spect-ral density function are compared. The amplitude was derived by use of the peak factor and the phase angle is d-erived by use of Monte Carlo simulation. To smoothen the match, the calculated pseudo velocity respon-se spectrum is compared with input pseudo velocity response spectrum at a set of control frequencies. With the modified spectral density function, a new acceleration and pseudo velocity response spectrum are generat-ed.

  • In order to know the characteristics of attenuation of coda wave in the Kyungsang Sedimetary Basin, quality faclity factor for coda wave (coda Q) is estimated from the earthquake data recorded in the KIGAM local seismic network. Thesingle scattering model for coda wave generation is adopted is adopted in estimating coda Q. In the present study, coda Q(Qc)is estimated in the range of $\alpha$=1.5~3.0, where $\alpha$ denotes the normalized time to S-wave travel time and expressed in terms of frequency (f). The deduced function in the range of 1 to 25 Hz is Qc=36.8283$f^{1.15095}$ which represents the strong dependence of coda Q on frequency. It is found that the difference of Qc between U-D, N-S, and E-W components is negligible. This fact suports the back scattering therory that coda wave originates from scattered waves by randomly distributed heterogenities in the crust On the other hand, it is observed that the coda Q increases with increasing epicentral distence. This observation suggests that QC increases with depth.

  • In order to know the characteristics of attenuation of coda wave in the Kyungsang Sedimentary Basin quality factor for coda wave or coda Q is estimated from the earthquake data recorded in the KIGAM microearthquake network. The single scattering model for coda wave generation is adopted in estimating coda Q. Coda Q appears to be largely dependent on the normalized time(a) which is the ratio of elapsed time to S-wave travel time. In the present study coda Q(Qc) is estimated in the range of a=1.5-3.Q and expressed in terms of frequency(f). The deduced function in the range of 1 to 25 Hz is Qc=36.8283 f1.15095 to represent the strong dependence of coda Q on frequency. • Slotless linear brushless DC motor are widely used in precision machine applications because of their advantages such as low of detent force, negligible iron loss. But they have a disadvantage such as low thrust density, thrust ripple, and excessive use of permanent magnet materials. These lead to undesirable performance and high production cost. In this paper, we deal with the design and characteristics investigation of a air-core tubular linear brushless DC(TLBLDC) motor with air-core stator and permanent magnet mover. And to investigate the static and dynamic characteristics of air-core TLBLDC motor, the prototype machine is manufactured and analyzed by F.E.M. and Matlab simulink simulations. Especially, dynamic characteristics of air-core TLBLDC motor driven with 6 step inverter are simulated by F.E.M.coupling with external circuit and Matlab simulink program, and measured for the prototype motor. The simulation results are compared to the experimental results such as current waves, thrust and speed curve.

  • The attenuation of acoustic emission (AE) waves was evaluated for injection-molded short-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites employing simulated AE waves. Values of attenuation coefficient (${\alpha}$) decreased more with increasing fiber volume fraction ($V_f$) than that expected from a simple linear relation between ${\alpha}$ and $V_f$. The effect of wave attenuation was taken into account in a quantitative analysis of the AE peak amplitude distribution which was obtained from each zone partitioned in a specimen gage portion. The amplitude distribution compensated for the measured attenuation loss was exhibited almost similar in every zone of the specimen. Consequently, it was, shown that the AE amplitudes obtained from fiber/plastic composites were considerably affected by the attenuation.

  • In this study, the propagation characteristics of Lamb waves in anisotropic silicon wafers of (100) and (111) direction were investigated by PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) line-focused transducer. The modified V(f,z) method was used because the Lamb waves are dispersive. For confirming the anisotropy, a line-focused transducer was used and the silicon wafer was rotated 180 degrees at intervals of 1 degree. As a result, $A_0$ and $S_0$ modes were observed. The speed of $S_0$ mode according to propagation direction showed anisotropy which is associated with the crystal structure, and the speed of $A_0$ mode was isotropic. The result is consistent with the crystal structure of silicon and the mechanism of vibration of each Lamb wave modes.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a pillow simulated with cranial sacral therapy (CST) on sleep induction using electroencephalography (EEG). This study included 12 voluntary participants divided into experimental group (CST group) and control group (Non-CST group) to observe EEG changes. The position of the electrode for EEG measurement consists of 8 channels electrodes (Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, T3, T4, P3 and P4). In this study, we measured the fall asleep time, change of brain activity and sleep wave ratio using EEG wave (${\delta}$, ${\theta}$, ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$). As a result, the mean fall asleep time of the experimental group was shorter than that of the control group significantly (p < 0.001). Also in comparison with the control group, both the delta (d) and theta (q) wave corresponding to the slow waves showed a larger increase and the alpha (a) wave showed a larger decrease significantly. The slow waves of experimental group showed a higher rate of significant increase than the control group (p < 0.001). Therefore this study showed that pillow based on CST had an effective in improving sleep induction and quality.

  • The electric coupling between the lithosphere and the ionosphere is examined. The electric field is considered as a timevarying irregular vertical Coulomb field presumably produced on the Earth's surface before an earthquake within its epicentral zone by some micro-processes in the lithosphere. It is shown that the Fourier component of this electric field with a frequency of 500 Hz and a horizontal scale-size of 100 km produces in the nighttime ionosphere of high and middle latitudes a transverse electric field with a magnitude of ~20 mV/m if the peak value of the amplitude of this Fourier component is just 30 V/m. The time-varying vertical Coulomb field with a frequency of 500 Hz penetrates from the ground into the ionosphere by a factor of ${\sim}7{\times}10^5$ more efficient than a time independent vertical electrostatic field of the same scale size. The transverse electric field with amplitude of 20 mV/m will cause perturbations in the nighttime F region electron density through heating the F region plasma resulting in a reduction of the downward plasma flux from the protonosphere and an excitation of acoustic gravity waves.
