Origin of the Eocene Gyeongju A-type Granite, SE Korea: Implication for the High Fluorine Contents (에오세 경주 A-형 화강암의 기원: 높은 불소 함량에 대한 고찰)

  • The Eocene Gyeongju granitoids in SE Korea are alkali feldspar granite (AGR), biotite granite (BTGR), and hornblende biotite granodiorite (HBGD) along Yangsan fault and Ulsan fault. According to their geochemical characteristics, these granitoids are classified as A-type (AGR) and I-type (BTGR and HBGD) granitoids, and regarded that were derived from same parental magma in upper mantle. The hornblende and biotite of AGR as an interstitial phase indicate that influx of F-rich fluid during the crystallization of AGR magma. AGR is enriched LILE (except Sr and Ba) and LREE that indicate the influences for subduction released fluids. The highest HFSE contents and zircon saturation temperature of AGR among the Eocene Gyeongju granitoids may indicate that it was affected by partial melting rather than magma fractionation. These characteristics may represent that the high F contents of AGR was affected by F-rich fluid derived from the subducted slab and partial melting. It corresponds with the results of the REE modeling and the dehydrated fluid component (Ba/Th) modeling showing that AGR (A-type) was formed by the partial melting of BTGR (I-type) with the continual influx of F-rich fluid derived from the subducted slab.

Research on Liquefaction Characteristics of SF6 Substitute Gases

  • $SF_6$ has been widely used in high voltage power equipment, such as gas insulated switchgear (GIS) and gas insulated transmission line (GIL), because of its excellent insulation and arc extinguishing performance. However, $SF_6$ faces two environmental problems: greenhouse effect and high liquefaction temperature. Therefore, to find the $SF_6$ substitute gases has become a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, the liquefaction characteristics of $SF_6$ substitute gases were studied. Peng-Robinson equation of state with the van der Waals mixing rule (PR-vdW model) was used to calculate the dew point temperature of the binary gas mixtures, with $SF_6$, $C_3F_8$, $c-C_4F_8$, $CF_3I$ or $C_4F_7N$ as the insulating gas and $N_2$ or $CO_2$ as the buffer gas. The sequence of the dew point temperatures of the binary gas mixtures under the same pressure and composition ratio was obtained. $SF_6/N_2$ < $SF_6/CO_2$ < $C_3F_8/N_2$ < $C_3F_8/CO_2$ < $CF_3I/N_2$ < $CF_3I/CO_2$ < $c-C_4F_8/N_2$ < $C_4F_7N/N_2$ < $c-C_4F_8/CO_2$ < $C_4F_7N/CO_2$. $SF_6/N_2$ gas mixture showed the best temperature adaptability and $C_4F_7N/CO_2$ gas mixture showed the worst temperature adaptability. Furthermore, the dew point temperatures of the $SF_6$ substitute gases at different pressures and the upper limits of the insulating gas mole fraction at $-30^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$ and $-10^{\circ}C$ were obtained. The results would supply sufficient data support for GIS/GIL operators and researchers.

And we observed the surface morphology of the $F_{16}CuPc$ thin film. The $F_{16}CuPc$ thin film thickness was 40nm, and the channel length was $50{\mu}m$, channel width was 3mm. We observed the typical current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and capacitance-voltage (C-V) in $F_{16}CuPc$ FET and we calculated the effective mobility.

A Fundamental Phonetic Investigation of Korean Monophthongs (한국어 단모음의 음성학적 기반연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and quantitatively describe the acoustic characteristics of current Korean monophthongs. Recordings were made of 33 men and 27 women producing the vowels /i, e, ${\epsilon}$, a, ${\partial}$, o, u, i/ in a carrier phrase "This character is ___." A listening test was conducted in which 19 participants judged each vowel. F1, F2, and F3 were measured from the vowels judged as intended vowels by more than 17 people from the listening test. Analysis of formant data shows some interesting results including the undeniable confirmation of the 7-vowel system in modern Korean. It turns out that quite different sounding Korean vowels and English vowels happen to have very similar formant measurements. Also the difference between "citation-form reading" vs. "natural utterance reading" is discussed.

  • Production of haploids in vitro anther culture of Nicotiana tabacum L. was oriented in a large number on a chemically defined culture medium. The haploids were screened for T.M.V. resistance and the segregating ratio in F$_1$ were in good agreement with the expected ratio.

  • We have fabricated vortical type organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) consisting of ITO/n type active material/Al gate/n type active material/Al using F16CuPc, NTCDA, PTCDA and PTCDI C-8. The effect of mobility of n type active materials and thin film thickness on current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and on/off ratios were investigated. The vortical type organic transistor using PTCDI C-8 exhibited low operation voltage and high on-off ratio. In addition, we have investigated the feasibility of application in organic light emitting transistor using light emitting polymer. Especially, the light emitting transistor consisting of ITO/PEDOT-PSS/P3HT/F16CuPc/Al gate/F16CuPc/Al showed the maximum quantum efficiency of 0.054.

DED Interaction of FADD and Caspase-8 in the Induction of Apoptotic Cell Death

  • Fas-associated death domain (FADD) is an adapter molecule that bridges the interaction between receptor-interacting protein 1 (RIP1) and aspartate-specific cysteine protease-8 (caspase-8). As the primary mediator of apoptotic cell death, caspase-8 has two N-terminal death-effector domains (DEDs) and it interacts with other proteins in the DED subfamily through several conserved residues. In the tumor necrosis receptor-1 (TNFR-1)-dependent signaling pathway, apoptosis is triggered by the caspase-8/FADD complex by stimulating receptor internalization. However, the molecular mechanism of complex formation by the DED proteins remains poorly understood. Here, we found that direct DED-DED interaction between FADD and caspase-8 and the structure-based mutations (Y8D/I128A, E12A/I128A, E12R/I128A, K39A/I128A, K39D/I128A, F122A/I128A, and L123A/I128A) of caspase-8 disrupted formation of the stable DED complex with FADD. Moreover, the monomeric crystal structure of the caspase-8 DEDs (F122A/I128A) was solved at 1.7 Å. This study will provide new insight into the interaction mechanism and structural characteristics between FADD and caspase-8 DED subfamily proteins.

  • In order to clarify the functional role of Tyr7 in human glutathione S-transferase P1-1, we extensively investigated the effect of mutation of Tyr7 on the substrate specificity and inhibition characteristics. The mutational replacement of Tyr7 with phenylalanine lowered the specific activities with 1,2-dichloro-4-nitrobenzene and 1,2-epoxy-3-(p-nitrophenoxy) propane for GSH-conjugation reaction to 3~5% of the values for the wild-type enzyme. The pKa of the thiol group of GSH bound in Y7F was about 2.4 pK units higher than that in the wild-type enzyme. The $I_{50}$ of hematin for Y7F was similar to that for the wild-type enzyme and those of benastatin A and S-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)glutathione were only moderately decreased. These results suggest that Tyr7 is considered to be important the catalytic activities not only for GSH-chloronitrobenzene derivatives but also for GSH-epoxide conjugation reaction, rather than to binding of the substrates.
