  • Due to the handheld holding of smartphones and the presence of light leakage and non-balanced contrast, the detection of the retina area in smartphone-captured fundus images is more challenging than retinography-captured fundus images. This paper presents a computationally efficient image processing pipeline in order to detect and enhance the retina area in smartphone-captured fundus images. The developed pipeline consists of five image processing components, namely point spread function parameter estimation, deconvolution, contrast balancing, circular Hough transform, and retina area extraction. The results obtained indicate a typical fundus image captured by a smartphone through a D-EYE lens is processed in 1 second.

  • Neuro-ophthalmological findings are common and occasionally prominent features in movement disorders. Accordingly, careful evaluation of the ocular motor functions may provide valuable information in early detection of the diseases and monitoring of the progression. Furthermore, accurate assessment of the abnormal ocular motor findings aids in understanding the pathophysiology and mechanisms of the movement disorders, and in their differential diagnosis. Ocular motility examination should include bedside evaluation and laboratory recording of the fixational abnormalities, saccades, smooth pursuit, the vestibulo-ocular reflex, optokinetic nystagmus, and vergence eye movements. In this review, we will discuss various ocular motor findings in ataxia and parkinsonian syndromes, and hyperkinetic movement disorders.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method that can detect face region effectively with fuzzy theory and neural network We make fuzzy rules and membership functions to describe the face color. In this algorithm, we use a perceptually uniform color space to increase the accuracy and stableness of the nonlinear color information. We use this model to extract the face candidate, and then scan it with the pre-built sliding window by using a neural network-based pattern-matching method to find eye. A neural network examines small windows of face candidate, and decides whether each window contains eye. We can standardize the face candidate geometrically with detected eyes.

  • A new automatic tracking & recognition algorithm which decides the opening & the closing states of subject's eye and isn't affected by the subject's background is proposed. And it was tested in circumstances in which subject's background was not restricted using the developed system, ATRS(Automatic Tracking & Recognition System). The significant characteristic of the ATRS is new movement detection of object that is a body in motion with accelated velocity and it doesn't need any extra hardware except a formal CCD camera and an image grabber but it works so well and so fast. The ATRS would be particularly well suited to a way of communications of patients in a hospital, who can not communicate otherwise.

  • An 8-month-old female rabbit was presented with a white intraocular mass in the right eye. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy showed a white mass behind the iris, accompanied by rubeosis iridis and aqueous flare. Ocular B-scan ultrasonography revealed hyperechoic material within the anterior chamber connected with cataractous lens in the right eye. Signs deteriorated despite treatment, and enucleation was performed. Histopathologically, phacoclastic endophthalmitis due to Encephalitozoon cuniculi infection was confirmed. This was the first report of a client-owned rabbit affected with E. cuniculi-associated phacoclastic uveitis. Serological detection of anti-E. cuniculi antibodies should be considered to prevent potential zoonotic risk.

  • Chromosome 22 is an acrocentric chromosome containing 500-600 genes, representing 1.5%-2% of the total DNA in cells. It was the first human chromosome to be fully sequenced by the Human Genome Project. Several syndromes involving the partial deletion or duplication of chromosome 22 are well descibed, including 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, 22q11.2 duplication syndrome, 22q11.2 distal deletion syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome caused by a 22q13 deletion or pathogenic variant in SHANK3, and cat-eye syndrome caused by a 22 pter-q11 duplication. This review aims to provide concise information on the clinical characteristics of these syndromes. In particular, the similarities in features among these syndromes, genetic basis, and standard detection techniques are described, providing guidance for diagnosis and genetic counselling.

  • It is important to exactly detect the GCI(Glottal Closure Instant) in the speech signal processing. A few methods to detect the GCI of voiced speech have een proposer, untill now. But these are difficult to detect the GCI for wide range of speakers and or various vowel signals. In this paper, we prposed a new method for GCI detection using the G-peak. The speech waveforms are passed through the LPF of variable bandwidth. Then, the GCI's of voiced speech are detected by the G-peak based on the filtered signals. We compared the detected with the eye-checked GCI at the SNR of clean, 20dB, and 0dB. We took into account the range within 1ms between eye-checked and detected GCI. We obtained the result of the detection rate as 97.9% in the clean speech, 96.5% in 20dB SNR, and 94.8% in 0dB SNR, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of emotional arousal and cognitive load on pupil diameter during a lie detection interview. The guilty group (n = 30) committed a mock crime (i.e., stealing cash) and the innocent group (n = 30) performed a mission (i.e., sending a message) in the research assistant's office. After that, their pupil size was measured using a wearable eye-tracker during the interview. The interview questions were classified with the three cognitive load, three emotional arousal, and three neutral questions. The results indicate that the main effects of group and time were not significant, but the interaction between group and time was significant. It means that when answering cognitive load questions, the guilty group showed larger increase in pupil diameter than the innocent group. The present study suggests that inducing cognitive load is more effective than inducing emotional arousal during an interview when using pupil diameter as an index of deception, and it is expected to improve the accuracy of lie detection.
