Now para-phenylenediamine(PPDA) is generally used as component of most hairdyes because it can be used more conveniently and effectively than the others. But PPDA become known to cause side effects such as skin sensitization, contact dermatitis and eye irritation. So this study was done to restudy the safety of hairdyes containing PPDA. The results of experiment were as follows. 1. As a result of primary skin irritation test and eye irritation test in white rabbits, the solution containing 5% PPDA(in saline) were classified as weak irritant but four kinds of commercial hairdyes containing PPDA were proved not to have any irritation. 2. As a result of skin sensitization test in guinea pig, four kinds of commercial hairdyes were classified as Calss I(week irritant) but three kinds of commercial hairdyes induced skin sensitization for guinea pig to 5% in test groups. These results indicate that the actual toxicity of commercial hairdyes(four kinds) is negligible. But based on the results of experiment, it is thought that there is possibility of some commercial hairdyes to induce skin sensititization.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate eye dominance and reading performance based on eye movements and reading speed. Methods: The eye dominance of 30 subjects was determined using the sighting test (hole formed by hands). The subjects were asked to read the numerical reading material aloud in English from left to right and from right to left at random. The number of saccades, regressions, and inter-fixations per minute was calculated using Visual-Oculography (VOG) and the reading speed was recorded as number of characters per minute using stopwatch. Results: No significant differences in reading speed among right and left eye dominant subjects as they read from left to right and right to left directions (p>0.05). However, left eye dominant subjects were found to read significantly faster compared to right eye dominant subjects in both directions of reading (p<0.05). In term of eye movement patterns, no significant differences in saccades, regressions, and inter-fixations per minute were found between subjects with right eye dominance and left eye dominance for both reading directions (p>0.05). Conclusions: Reading performance in term of eye movement and speed was not affected by eye dominance, but subjects with left eye dominance read faster than subjects with right eye dominance.
Carthami tinctorii Fructus is known for its good effect on diseases such as fracture, menorrhalgia, menoschesis, puerperium aneilema and so on. The study of irritation and toxicity of Carthami oil aquapuncture solution applied topically to the skin and the eye mucous membrane were carried out to prove the safety of Carthami oil aquapuncture solution in clinical use. Animal for the research was the rabbit and the solution for the test was made from Carthami semen. 6 animals were used for the skin test and 9 animals were used for the eye mucous membrane test. In results, both tests proved that Carthami oil aquapuncture solution makes no irritable reaction on skin and eye mucous membrane of rabbit. We consider that this result is helpful for saying about the safety of Carthami oil aquapuncture solution in clinical use.
In this paper, we propose robust face and eye detection algorithm under changing environmental condition such as lighting and pose variations. Generally, the eye detection process is performed followed by face detection and variations in pose and lighting affects the detection performance. Therefore, we have explored face detection based on Modified Census Transform algorithm. The eye has dominant features in face area and is sensitive to lighting condition and eye glasses, etc. To address these issues, we propose a robust eye detection method based on Gabor transformation and Features from Accelerated Segment Test algorithms. Proposed algorithm presents 27.4ms in detection speed with 98.4% correct detection rate, and 36.3ms face detection speed with 96.4% correct detection rate for eye detection performance.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of auriculotherapy on reducing signs of dry eye syndrome. Methods: This study is based on a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The participants who scored higher than 13 on the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) were divided randomly into two groups, the experimental group (n=45) and the control group (n=44). Auriculotherapy was performed by researchers for 2 weeks. For the experimental group, seed stickers were applied to the eye, liver, shenmen, and tubercle point of their ears. The pretest and the posttest included the same questionnaires of the OSDI as well as the Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ25) and the eye fatigue. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, t-test and paired t-test, using SAS 20.0 program. Results: The difference in the OSDI's scores showed a significant decrease between the pretest and the posttest (t=-4.12, p<.001) in the experimental group. No significant difference was found in the NEI-VFQ25 (t=-0.10, p=.921, t=-0.91 p=.374). However, the experimental group showed a significant decrease in eye fatigue (t=5.78, p<.001), whereas the control group showed no difference (t=1.38, p=.18). Conclusion: Auriculotherapy can be used effectively on relieving the symptoms of dry eye syndrome and eye fatigue. However, the quality of life related to eyes was not improved by auriculotherapy.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference between eye movements according to science achievement of elementary school students on measuring tasks. Science achievement was graded by the results of Korea national achievement test conducted in 2012. As an assessment tool to check measuring task, two measuring measure problems from TSPS(Test of Science Process Skill; developed in 1994) which were suitable for eye tracking system were adopted. The subjects of this study were 3 underachievers and 3 overachievers from 6th grade who agreed to participate in the research. SMI was used to collect EMD (eye movement data). Experiment 3.2 and BeGaze 3.2 programs were used to plan experiment and analyze EMD. As a result, eye movements of participants in measuring task did not show the path to the common gaze by groups. To solve the problem of using specific measuring strategies related to the correct answer. Underachiever who failed in measuring tasks don't have enough measurement capabilities and lack eye movement through the area of interest for cognitive thinking. These results show that elementary school science curriculum dealing with measuring have to reflect a lot of step-by-step learning requires.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of height cognition ability according to dominant or non-dominant eye. Methods: Forty one healthy adults (male: 19, female: 22, 22-43 years) participated in this study. Hole in the card test was performed to identify dominant eye. To figure out height cognition ability between dominant and non-dominant eye, we had subjects answer which point is higher or even on the monitor. Results: The Right answer on dominant eye was $8.15{\pm}1.44$ point and the right answer on non-dominant eye was $7.56{\pm}1.55$ point. There was a statistically significant difference between dominant eye group and non-dominant eye group (p<.05). Conclusion: We think that the dominant eye may be used for reliable diagnosis. In future study, investigate on relation between dominant hand and dominant eye and the difference of dominant eye and non-dominant eye when to palpation are required.
Human eyes and skin are frequently exposed to chemicals accidentally or on purpose due to their external location. Therefore, chemicals are required to undergo the evaluation of the ocular and dermal irritancy for their safe handling and use before release into the market. Draize rabbit eye and skin irritation test developed in 1944, has been a gold standard test which was enlisted as OECD TG 404 and OECD TG 405 but it has been criticized with respect to animal welfare due to invasive and cruel procedure. To replace it, diverse alternatives have been developed: (i) For Draize eye irritation test, organotypic assay, in vitro cytotoxicity-based method, in chemico tests, in silico prediction model, and 3D reconstructed human cornealike epithelium (RhCE); (ii) For Draize skin irritation test, in vitro cytotoxicity-based cell model, and 3D reconstructed human epidermis models (RhE). Of these, RhCE and RhE models are getting spotlight as a promising alternative with a wide applicability domain covering cosmetics and personal care products. In this review, we overviewed the current alternatives to Draize test with a focus on 3D human epithelium models to provide an insight into advancing and widening their utility.
Purpose: When we look at the object, we used the dominant eye mainly. For this reason, a prescription of the dominant eye is an important factor for glasses and contact lenses. This study evaluated visual acuity differences between dominant and nondominant eyes through analyzing refractive power changes in both eyes by the ages. Methods: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between refractive error and dominant eye which had the superiority in the function of binocular. 186 subjects without ocular disease were examined on the dominant eye. The dominant eye was examined by the Hole-in-the-card test. For the consistency of the measurements, we tested refractive power in three times by the same person. Results: Using SPSS, the relationship between vision and the dominant eye was analyzed. 135 people of the whole subjects have the dominant eye on right. The Number of the non-dominant eye is 51. We were divided into 3 types, the group under the age of 10 that begins to expose environment factor affect on vision (the average age $8.8{\pm}1.18$) and the age group of 10 to 20 that begins to change refractive power in earnest (the average age $14.1{\pm}2.58$) and the group after the age 20 that began to stabilize vision (the average age $51.8{\pm}17.51$). The visual acuity of dominant eye was higher than non-dominant eye in all age groups. Nevertheless, these results were not statistically significant. Mean astigmatism of dominant eye was smaller than the non-dominant eye, and this is significant, statistically (p=0.017<0.05). Conclusions: It is expected that the balanced eye with a lower level of astigmatism has a more possibility become a dominant eye.
Although many children with cerebral palsy have problems with their eye movements available data on its intervention is minimal. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the postural movement normalization and eye movement program on the oculomotor ability of children with cerebral palsy. Twenty-four children with cerebral palsy (12 male and 12 female), aged between 10 and 12, were invited to partake in this study. The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: an experimental group received the postural movement normalization and eye movement program and a control group which received conventional therapy without the eye movement program. Each subject received intervention three times a week for twelve weeks. The final measurement was the ocular motor computerized test before and after treatment sessions through an independent assessor. Differences between the experimental group and control group were determined by assessing changes in oculomotor ability using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The changes of visual fixation (p<.01), saccadic eye movement (p<.01) and pursuit eye movement (p<.01) were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. These results show that the postural movement normalization and eye movement program may be helpful to treat children with cerebral palsy who lose normal physical and eye movement.
