  • The removal mechanism of air borne methyl iodide by triethylenediamine (TEDA) impregnated charcoal bed was investigated. The analysis of experimental data indicates that pore diffusion is the rate controlling step when the air velocity is over 20cm/sec, and both fore diffusion resistance and external mass transfer resistance are contributed to the overall resistance when the air velocity is 10cm/sec. The adsorption model to describe the performance of impregnated charcoal bed under dry condition where water vapors do not exist in air, is proposed. The calculated values and experimental results are well matched.

  • The oxygen fuel MILD (Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution) combustion has been considered as one of the promising combustion technology for flame stability, high thermal efficiency, low emissions and improved productivity. In this paper, the effect of oxygen and fuel injection condition on formation of MILD combustion was analyzed using lab scale oxygen fuel MILD combustion furnace. The results show that the flame mode was changed from a diffusion flame mode to a split flame mode via a MILD combustion flame mode with increasing the oxygen flow rate. A high degree of temperature uniformity was achieved using optimized combination of fuel and oxygen injection configuration without the need for external oxygen preheating. In particular, the MILD combustion flame was found to be very stable and constant flame temperature region at 7 KW heating rate and oxygen flow rate 75-80 l/min.

  • We present the results of the linear analysis for the Parker-Jeans instability in the magnetized gas disks including the effect of cosmic-ray diffusion along the magnetic field lines. We adopted an uni-formly rotating two temperature layered disk with a horizontal magnetic fields and solved the perturbed equations numerically. Fragmentation of gases takes place and filamentary structures are formed by the growth of the instability. Nagai et al. (1998) showed that the direction of filaments being formed by the Parker-Jeans instability depends on the strength of pressure outside the unperturbed gas disk. We found that at some range of external pressures the direction of filaments is also governed by the value of the diffusion coefficient of CR along the magnetic field lines k.

  • The process of implementing risk management systems for the organizations in financial service industry can be viewed as a diffusion of innovation since the introduction of the risk management systems changes the decision making process on risks faced by the organizations. The purpose of the reported research is to examine the factors that affect the successful implementation of ALM(asset & liability management) systems, the risk management systems managing interest rate risk. Specifically, this paper presents an investigation of three factors from the diffusion of innovation studies; internal factors, external factors, and time. A field survey was conducted for Korean banks that have implemented ALM systems. The results suggest that the perceived uncertainty of market, system supports, and management supports be most significantly related to the successful implementation of the risk management systems. The findings of the current study also suggest a certain amount of time should be passed to diffuse the risk management systems in organizations.

  • In order to predict the onset of the corrosion of steel bars in concrete, a mathematical model was presented to observe the diffusion of chloride ion in aqueous phase, the adsorption and desorption of chloride ions to and from the surface of solid phase of concrete, and the chemical reaction or chloride ions with solid phase. The finite element method was employed to carry out the numerical analysis. The chlorides enetrating through the wall of the concrete structure from the external environment and the chlorides contained in the concrete admixture were confirmed to be two important factors to determine the onset of the corrosion of steel bars.

  • Minority Carrier recombination should be suppressed for high efficiency solar cells. However, impurities in the silicon bulk region deteriorate the minority carrier lifetimes, causes conversion efficiency drop. In this study, we introduced phosphorus external gettering for silicon heterojunction solar cell substrates. Gettering was undergone at 750, 800, 850 and $900^{\circ}C$ in furnace for 30 minutes. Bulk lifetimes and calculated diffusion length were improved. We applied phosphorus gettering to silicon heterojunction solar cells. Gettered group and ungettered group were used as substrate of silicon heterojunction solar cells. After fabrication, characteristics of solar cells were analyzed. The results were observed to see the enhancement of substrate quality which directly connects with solar cell properties.

  • The kinetics of external hydrogen embrittlememt is considered. The equation of the crack growth rate (CGR) is derived from modification of the model developed by Wilkinson and Vitek. After calculation of hydrogen pressure build-up in the void, the effect of the internal hydrogen pressure on the void growth is added. The CGR is expressed by two terms. One is the term dependent on the critical stress, which is exactly same as Wilkinson and Vitek. The other is term dependent on the pressure of the hydrogen in void.

  • A water tube with detonating cord was devised to control the blast dust. Water diffusion experiments with different detonating cord positions were conducted during the series of experiments to optimize the design parameters of the tube. Images from high speed camera were analyzed to evaluate the results. AUTODYN program was adopted to simulate the diffusion process of water and compared with the images. Diffusion of water shows cross flow in case of external charge while the internal case shows radial flow. A bubble ring was formed during the numerical analysis of internal charge case as occurred in underwater blast. An additional bubble ring was formed by the reflection pressure from the ground. And the Weber number was determined as sufficient for spray atomization performance of the water tube.
