  • Non-verbal communication is important in human interaction. It provides a layer of information that complements the message being transmitted. This type of information is not limited to human speakers. In human-robot communication, increasing the animacy of the robotic agent-by using non-verbal cues-can aid the expression of abstract concepts such as emotions. Considering the physical limitations of artificial agents, robots can use light and movement to express equivalent emotional feedback. This study analyzes the effects of LED and motion animation of a spherical robot on the emotion being expressed by the robot. A within-subjects experiment was conducted at the University of Tsukuba where participants were asked to rate 28 video samples of a robot interacting with a person. The robot displayed different motions with and without light animations. The results indicated that adding LED animations changes the emotional impression of the robot for valence, arousal, and dominance dimensions. Furthermore, people associated various situations according to the robot's behavior. These stimuli can be used to modulate the intensity of the emotion being expressed and enhance the interaction experience. This paper facilitates the possibility of designing more affective robots in the future, using simple feedback.

  • Voice is one of the most efficient communication media and it includes several kinds of factors about speaker, context emotion and so on. Human emotion is expressed in the speech, the gesture, the physiological phenomena (the breath, the beating of the pulse, etc). In this paper, the method to have cognizance of emotion from anyone's voice signals is presented and simulated by using neuro-fuzzy model.

  • The purpose of this investigation is to seek the concepts of the Nature and the Emotion in the Sasang Constitutional Medicine. The results summerized as following. 1. When feelings like joy, anger, sorrow and happiness are kept in heart this state is the Nature. When they are expressed this state is the Emotion. In this point Confucianism and the Sasang Constitutional Medicine are same each other. 2. The Nature and Emotion of Confucianism are the psychic concepts. But the Nature and Emotion of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine are the psychosomatic concepts. 3. QI(氣) of joy, anger, sorrow and happiness, each of them share with qi(氣) of the Nature and Emotion. Qi(氣) of the Nature and Emotion directly influence the formation of Sasang Constitution, physiological and pathological state. As mentioned above, though the Nature and Emotion of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine come from Confucianism they are used the more opened conception.

  • This study examined the characteristics of brain's reaction pattern concerning the preference for product images and compared them with the result of subjects' intuitive evaluation of their preference for the same materials. Two tests were conducted; the first one that calculated comfort properties based on brainwave measurements in order to examine the impression given by the images of products presented separately, one-by-one, and the second one that had subjects evaluate the preference directly by comparing the images of all products simultaneously. The first test was titled 'Independent Cognitive Response' and the second test, 'Relative Cognitive Response', and their characteristics were as follows. In the 'Independent Cognitive Response', the state of emotion was expressed in absolute values based on the comparison with the information accumulated through the subject's own experience and the feeling expressed as 'pleasant' or 'unpleasant' persisted as absolute values. In the 'Relative Cognitive Response', the state of emotion relative to the information of other images compared in the stage of perceiving the images was expressed, and in this case, the state of emotion described as 'calm' or 'excited' acted as relative values.

  • It is difficult to define and classify human emotion. These vague human emotion appear not in single emotion, but in combination of various emotion. And among them, a remarkable emotion is expressed. This paper proposes a emotional expression algorithm using dynamic emotion space, which give facial expression in similar with vague human emotion. While existing avatar express several predefined emotions from database, our emotion expression system can give unlimited various facial expression by expressing emotion based on dynamically changed emotion space. In order to see whether our system practically give complex and various human expression, we perform real implementation and experiment and verify the efficacy of emotional expression system based on dynamic emotion space.

  • Literary works contain various human emotion and historical, cultural background. It is very significant to understand sound recognition and receptions represented in many literary works. This study aims to investigate the sound impression on ancient Korean Sijo( Korean Verse) involved various traditional korean emotion, which were expressed in different situations. Firstly we selected the appropriate Sijo to express sounds, and then classified the sound, analyzed the meaning of recognition to the sound. The number of 297 sounds were classified into 13 categories, and 20 emotional meanings. Especially, 'internal sadness' characterized the korean rooted emotion were more expressed than other meanings and this meaning were symbolized by the sound of wild geese and cuckoos.

  • 1. The emotion is given before birth, and because of not perfect of human being's consciseness, individual differance exist. 2. Every emotion act first on the heart and following other organ which possess each of the five emotion. Therfore the heart plays impartant role on the emotion and emerge five organ in the oriental medicine theory. 3. The emotion was expressed by external reagent, but the more importante reagent is internal situation such as qi(氣), xie(血), yin(陰), yang(陽), according to these reagent the existing time and strength is different. 4. The emotion is different according to the weak-strong and big-small of zang-fu(臟腑), and the size of zang-fu(臟腑) is determined by emotional specificity in the si-xiang medicinal (四象醫學)theory.
