We determined the chemical changes occurring in oil after exposure to high temperatures for various periods of time. Alterations in the chemical parameters of oil after heating for 30, 60, 90, and 120 min at 120C were investigated. The study involved cold-pressed perilla oil (CPPO), virgin perilla oil (VPO), and commercial heat press-extracted perilla oil (CHPEPO), and we assessed quality properties such as Hunter's color values, browning color intensity, acid value, conjugated dienoic acid level, peroxide value, total phenolic content, electron-donating ability, and fatty acid concentration. Hunter L values were higher for CPPO than for VPO or CHPEPO, whereas browning color intensity was greatest for CHPEPO. Peroxide value data showed higher levels of oxidation products in CPPO than in VPO or CHPEPO, whereas conjugated dienoic acid level was most increased in CHPEPO. The content of total phenolics and electron-donating ability were higher in CHPEPO than in CPPO or VPO. After thermal treatment, fatty acid content was most altered in CPPO; in particular, the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids dropped significantly. Hunter L value, acid value, conjugated dienoic acid level, and peroxide concentration also increased whereas Hunter a and b values, browning color intensity, and total phenolic content were decreased in perilla seed oils after thermal oxidation treatment.
This study was conducted to investigate upland crop at reclaimed sand land 'Saemangeum' for early desalination purpose and to investigate the growth and yield of whole crop barley, which was acceded after summer crop of corn and rice. Seedling establishment of whole crop barley were 216 seedlings/$m^2$(25%) for non-flooding, 43% for 1 month and 58% for 2, 3 month flooding. And it was 60% in rice cultivation. Soil salt concentration was 0.5% in non-flooding treatment, however flooding treatments decreased to 0.2% or less. In general soil salt concentration increased until the middle stage of growing, then became to similar level as the seeding time. Plant height, stem length and number of tiller were increased with flooding treatment. Whole crop barley yield was significantly reduced in non-flooding treatment but rapidly increased by flooding treatment. Yielding at 3 months increased by 504% compared to non-flooding, and rice cultivation was also increased by 536%. Protein and fiber content was low in 1 month flooding treatment, 3 months flooding and rice cultivation showed the similar results in terms of feed value. For desalination purpose in reclaimed land, 3 months flooding treatments of rice cultivation could result in higher yielding for upland crop, such as whole crop barley.

An eruption failure can be observed for child and adolescent periods when the primary dentition is changed to the permanent dentition through the mixed dentition frequently. The eruption failure can lead to miss erupting times of the tooth, then it will cause a lot of problems including root resorption, esthetic problem, transposition of adjacent tooth, malocclusoin and etc. Especially, the maxillary first molar is importantly concerned with occlusion and growth and is an essential tooth for development and maintenance of occlusion. So, it is a momentous part of more proper occlusal management to find these abnormal cases at the early stage and solve the problems. The sorts of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars can be divided into delayed eruption, impaction and the primary retention and the secondary retention. When physical obstacles cause impaction, first of all they must be removed then we can treat the impaction with observation after removal, surgical exposure or orthodontic traction. If the source of impaction is an ectopic eruption, the treatment can be a brasswire, a pendulum appliance, a space maintainer or space regainer after the extraction of the second deciduous tooth and etc. These cases are made a diagnosis of eruption failures of the maxillary first molars in mixed dentition period and have good prognosises after my treatments. So I reported them.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of steeping periods and temperatures of waxy rice on the microflora and enzyme activities of steeping water and waxy rice, as well as on the microscopic structures of waxy rice during the preparation of gangjung. When the steeping water was 15 and $35^{\circ}C$, yeast and lactic acid bacteria were the major microflora after 1 day. After 11 days, Lactobacillus spp. were the major bacteria, while Bacillus spp. were the primary microflora after 21 days. At $25^{\circ}C$ the primary species were Bacillus spp., Leuconostoc spp., and Bacillus spp. after 1, 11 and 21 days, respectively. The $\alpha$-amylase activity of steeping water increased proportionally with the increase of temperature and period, while the protease activity tended to increase for 11 days, but decreased at 21 days. The enzyme activities of the steeped waxy rice, especially the $\alpha$-amylase activity, decreased with higher steeping temperature, while the $\beta$-amylase and glucoamylase activity remained constant for up to 21 days. Observation using scanning electron microscopy indicated that intracellular cleavage of steeped waxy rice endosperm resulted in a rough surface morphology due to the exposure of polygonal starch granules. Tiny pinholes on the surface of waxy rice starch granules were also observed after steeping for 11 days.
Effects of curing treatments and storage temperature on the quality of Chinese yams (Dioscorea polystachya Turcz.) were investigated stepwise in three consecutive years for the optimization of postharvest handling procedures. Tuberous roots were harvested in early to mid November and cured under ambient or $29^{\circ}C$ heated air conditions for various periods according to the treatment conditions. Storage temperatures in the range of 0.5 to $7.5^{\circ}C$ were phased in to avoid chilling injury while examining storage potential from 4 to 7 months. As poststorage technology, short-term $60^{\circ}C$ hot-air exposure or low shelf temperature treatments were additively imposed. Curing treatments, especially heated air curing for 3-5 days tended to reduce the respiration and weight loss during storage while maintaining flesh firmness. Storage at $0.5^{\circ}C$ brought out typical chilling injury symptoms on the shelf with increases in respiration and lower flesh firmness by tissue breakdown resulting in the rapid loss of marketability. Optimum storage temperature appeared to be the $3-4^{\circ}C$ range which suppresses quality deterioration while avoiding chilling injury. Low shelf temperature seemed to be a necessary part of postharvest handling system to keep marketability through control of poststorage disorders such as rooting and decay. Overall results suggested that optimized postharvest program consisting of heated-air curing, storage at $3-4^{\circ}C$, and low shelf temperature could extend storage potential of Chinese yam to longer than 7 months.
To quantitatively assess the effects of turbidity on egg development and larval fish survival, a laboratory fish rearing experiment was applied to different life stages (newly hatched larval stage, juvenile stage and pre-adult stage) of the Zacco platypus, one of the most universal and tolerant species in Korea. According to the stress index of turbidity in water with exposure time, three different treatments, including a reference condition (1~7 NTU) as well as intermediate (20~150 NTU) and high turbidity conditions (400~1,000 NTU) were applied, and egg hatching and larval fish mortality rates were observed. The mortality rates of newly hatched larval fish were significantly different among treatments (ANOVA, $F_{2,3}$=17.79, p<0.05). Average rates of survival to hatching were 20.9% (${\pm}0.1%$) for reference condition, 11% (${\pm}6.9%$) for intermediate level and 3.2% (${\pm}3.7%$) for high level conditions, respectively. A sudden change of mortality at the high level was observed within 5 days of the experiment. About 84% of juvenile fish survived until 20 experimental periods under conditions of reference turbidity, while survival under conditions of intermediate turbidity was over 80% of larval fish until day 13 of the experiment, but dropped to less than 10% after day 14 and 15 of two experiments. Fish mortality appeared from day 6 of the high turbidity experiment, and 50% mortality was achieved at day 9 to 10 of experiment. Full mortality occurred at day 14 of the experiment (RM-ANOVA, $F_{2,38}$, p<0.005). In the pre-adult stage experiment, no mortality was observed during the experiment at reference level treatment (20 days), while only slight mortality rates were observed for both intermediate and high levels until day 5 of the experiment, however, no further fish died in either experiment. It was significantly different compared to reference condition (RM-ANOVA, $F_{2,20}$=8.28, p<0.01), but no difference was observed between intermediate and high level conditions. Consequently, this tolerant species has been determined to be well adapted to high levels of turbidity in its adult stage, but more vulnerable throughout earlier life stages.

Purpose: To assess the epidemiology and the clinical features of Glufosinate herbicide in Korea. Methods: Data was prospectively collected during 1 year since August 2005 from 38 hospital in Korea. We analyzed the epidemiologic characters and clinical manifestations of Glufosinate poisoning. In addition, the characteristics of patients with severe central nervous system toxicity were separately analyzed to find poor prognosis relating factors. Results: During study periods, there were 715 persons of poisoning of herbicides and insecticides. 6.3% (45 persons) of the agricultural chemicals poisoning had Glufosinate poisoning. There were 36 cases of suicide attempts and 7 cases of accidental exposure, The major of poisoning route was oral ingestion (44 cases). 28.9 % of the study patients had not toxic symptoms. The most common symptoms were gastrointestinal symptoms relating surfactant irritation. 67.7% of central nervous symptoms occurred lately. 10 persons showed severe central nervous system toxicity. 4 persons of them showed poor outcomes (1 death, 3 hopeless discharged). Complications of respiratory failure and renal failure related with poor outcome. Conclusion: Majority of patients ingested Glufosinate for suicide attempt. 22.2% of patients with Glufosinate poisoning showed delayed serious central nervous system toxicity. Early supportive care of altered mentality may prevent late respiratory complications and improve the outcomes.
As online fashion businesses achieve rapid growth in the last few years, they gather various kinds of customer information through customer registration procedures and expect to utilize this information for CRM programs. The purpose of this study were to understand the current practices of customer information management of online fashion companies and to discuss how to improve it for the benefit of both customers and fashion businesses. This study included three steps of empirical data collection process: First, online fashion companies were visited and content analyzed at three time periods-2002, 2003, and 2004. Second, a questionnaire was developed and surveyed with 488 customers. And third, interviews with two groups were conducted, one with customers who experienced customer registration with online fashion companies and the other with experts of web developing. Through customer registration procedures, personal and contact information such as name, citizen registration number(social security number), home address, home telephone number, and cellular phone number were most frequently required. Customers were asked to provide more specific information regarding their privacy, online behavior, and taste recently. The variety of information category in 2004 observation was larger than 2002, but the amount of required information from each company got smaller. Customers tended to provide some false infor- mation, and the most frequently cited reason for that was 'too much hassle' and 'no practical benefit from information provision'. Customers were concerned with the exposure of personal information such as citizen registration number. The ideal number of pieces of information required was identified as 3 to 5 including name, phone number, and address. The paper was concluded with the discussion of customer information management from CRM perspective, CRM program, information analysis methods, and security.

Natural ventilation in radioactive waste repositories is considered to be less efficient than mechanically forced ventilation for the repository working environment and hygiene & safety of the public at large, for example, controlling the exposure of airborne radioactive particulate matter. It is, however, considered to play an important role and may be fairly efficient for maintaining environmental conditions of the repository over the duration of its lifetime, for example, moisture content and radon (Rn) gas elimination in repository. This paper describes the feasibility of using natural ventilation which can be generated in the repository itself, depending on the conditions of the natural environment during the periods of repository construction and operation. Evidences from natural cave analogues, actual measurements of natural ventilation pressures in mountain traffic tunnels with vertical shafts, and calculations of airflow rates with given natural ventilation pressures indicate possible benefits from passive ventilation for the prospective Korean radioactive waste repository. Natural ventilation may provide engineers with a cost-efficient method for heat and moisture transfer, and radon (Rn) gas elimination in a radioactive waste repository. The overall thermal performance of the repository may be improved. The dry-out period may be extended, and the seepage flux likely would be decreased.
Three hundred gram of Korean ginseng root was extracted with 95% ethanol on a boiling water bath for about 300 hr. Evaporation of alcohol yieled 50.2g of dark brown residue which was used by dissolving 4 mg of the residue in 1 ml of physiological saline. The ginseng group and the saline group received each day 0.5 ml per 100 g body weight of ginseng extract and physiological saline, respectively. Both the ginseng and saline group with stress were exposed to positive radial acceleration (1∼29g), cold (5$^{\circ}C$, 0$^{\circ}C$ &-10$^{\circ}C$) and heat (35$^{\circ}C$) environment, and surgical stress. After termination of the last stress, the tolerance, body weight, visceral organ weight, basal metabolism rate, rectal temperature, the number of erythrocyte and leucocyte, hemoglobin level, hematocrit ratio, total serum protein content and it's fraction and the content of adrenal ascorbic acid in the experimental animal exposed to stress were measured and at the corresponding periods, the same measurements were also carried out with the ginseng and the saline groups without stress exposure (serving as control). Results obtained were as follows. 1. Administration of ginseng does depressed the decrease of the tolerance, body weight, visceral organ weight, basal metabolism rate, the number of erythrocyte, hemoglobin value, hematocrit ratio and the A/G ratio in the mice and rats exposed to various stress. 2. The change of the rectal temperature, eosinophile counts, total serum protein content and the content of adrenal ascorbic acid of ginseng group that exposured to various stress facilitates the reaction to, and accelerates the recovery from the stress. 3. Even after hypophysectomy which served the link between the central and the peripheral portion of the stress mechanism, the adrenal ascorbic acid content of ginseng group decreased significantly more than that of the saline group 30 min. after administration of ACTH, while the value approached the normal level significantly closer in the ginseng group than in the saline group 1 and 2 hr after ACTH administration. Judging from the above results, it is concluded that administration of ginseng extract tolerated the experimental animals under the environment of stressfu1 stmuli, although the ginseng has no significant influence upon the stress mechanism in the absence of stressful stimuli. The site of action of the ginseng appears to be in the peripheral portion of the stress mechanism.
