COMPUTER PROGRAMS WHICH ENABLE PRICING OF SHEEP AND LAMB CARCASSES BASED ON YIELD ESTIMATION SUITABILITY AND FINANCIAL PARAMETERS

  • A computer program called LAMPRO has been developed for use by the Australian meat industry to assist with the pricing of lamb carcasses. Based on a series of prediction equations and accounting for the cost structure of a meat processor the program allows the real value of a carcass to be established. The concept has also been extended to cater for mutton carcasses destined for either domestic or export markets incorporated in a program called MUTONPRO.

The China's Exchange Rate Policy to Export Competition

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper was to analyze the Chinese government's announcement of the RMB's appreciation on July 1, 2010, and its aim was to ascertain whether the appreciation has affected Chinese export prices by empirically measuring the degree of the exchange rate pass-tough on those prices. Research design, data, and methodology - Using 73 HS trade categories with cross-industry and time-series data, the panel estimation of a fixed-effects model has been applied to measure the degree and stability of any exchange rate pass-through effects. The estimation results show that the export prices of most trade categories were affected by the exchange rate changes. The pass-through effect was generally small, at about -0.485, and statistically significant in most export prices. Results - The empirical results indicate that China would lose its advantage and competitiveness in export if the RMB were appreciated continuously and rapidly because its export goods would no longer operate under strong monopolistic competition. Conclusions - The implications for China's exchange rate policy suggest that it would be better for the RMB to appreciate slowly and gradually rather than radically. It is clear that it would be allow the capital free flow in Chinese overall economic interest to reduce the continuous appreciation pressure on the currency and pave the way for improvements in export distribution competitiveness.

A Study on the Promotion of Korean Paprika Export to Vietnam (한국산 파프리카의 베트남 수출 활성화 방안에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a strategy to activate the export of Korean paprika to Vietnam. For this, we survey 202 adults in Vietnam, and analyzed the paprika purchase and consumption behavior, preferences, considerations, and willingness to pay. Most of respondents had purchased paprika, and offline grocery stores are the major purchasing location of paprika. The price elasticity of Korean paprika is greater than 1, showing more elasticity than other origins, and it is advantageous to implement the price reduction strategy. The number of household members and the level of education affect purchasing intentions. In conclusion, product composition targeting small households, pricing strategy, and K-Food marketing are appropriate.

A Study on the Export Priority Indicators of Rice Processed Food for Export Business

  • As the trade among the countries increases, domestic agriculture is facing a crisis. Especially domestic rice industry is suffering from the rice market opening problem and the domestic rice industry itself. As a counter measure against this, despite the promotion of the rice processing food industry, the export of rice processed food has decreased by an average annual rate of 12.3% since 2011 due to the lack of customized export strategy, such as low price competitiveness, insufficient quality and brand management. As a measure, we selected indicators to prioritize establishment of export strategy of rice processed food business and used AHP methodology to draw the weight for each indicators. The selection of export strategy prioritization indicator was based on the marketing mix theory, various previous research reviews and expert consulting. Five higher level indicators and nineteen detailed indicators were derived, and a weighted value of them was analyzed using a professional package. As a result, the relative importance of higher level indicators was 45.5% for product differentiation, 18.4% for management competence, 13.0% for export infrastructure, 12.0% for product pricing, and 11.1% for product distribution. The relative importance of the lower level indicators was 17.3% for product safety, 15.3% for product quality, 9.1% for management expertise, and 7.0% for product brand. This result is expected to be used as export strategy indicators of rice processed food export business.

Declines in Exchange Rate Pass-through to Export Prices in Korea (우리나라 수출가격에 대한 환율전가율 변화)

  • This paper investigates changes in the extent of exchange rate pass-through to export price in Korea. First, empirical results show that export prices have become less responsive to the exchange rate since the financial crisis in 1997. The decline of exchange rate pass-through to export prices suggests that Korean exporters are more likely to use profit margins to absorb part of the impact of exchange rate changes, consistent with pricing to market phenomenon. Second, this paper finds asymmetries in the response of export prices to exchange rate changes. In the post-crisis period. appreciations are more likely to be offset by markup adjustment than depreciations. Third, this paper documents that a significant portion of the decline of exchange rate pass-through is a result of both increased volatility of exchange rate and increased competition with China in the world market.

  • This study analyzed the effect of marketing ability of SMEs using online export marketing on market performance. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are making efforts to expand their markets from the domestic market to the overseas market and increase sales. We studied the factors that can produce results in the fiercely competitive overseas market. A total of 400 export SMEs were surveyed, and 159 companies directly participating in online export marketing were selected as final targets. The survey was analyzed using SMART PLS 4.0 and SPSS 26.0 statistical programs, and research hypotheses were verified. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was found that the marketing ability of SMEs had a positive (+) effect on online export marketing. Second, it was confirmed that online export marketing had a significant positive (+) effect on market performance through its mediating role. In addition, the intensity of competition in the export market was found to have a moderating effect in online export marketing. The implications of this study are as follows. The theoretical basis was established that the marketing capabilities (product development capability, distribution capability, pricing capability, public relations capability) of exporting SMEs have a positive effect on overseas market performance through online export marketing. In the market, the use of online export marketing by SMEs can provide implications in that it can be an important means for overseas market development and performance. As a result, it is necessary to actively utilize online export marketing for SMEs to enter overseas markets and achieve results.

Entry to Chinese Market for Korean Fashion Brands: Current Situations and Suggestions of Marketing Strategies (국내 의류브랜드의 중국진출 현황 및 마케팅전략 제안)

  • The purpose of this study is 1) to identify Chinese environment for investment and apparel market, 2) to analyze the current situations of Korean fashion brands'entry to Chinese market, 3) to analyze the marketing strategies to China according to product category, and 4) to identify merits and problems of Chinese market. For data collection, secondary resources were collected, and the telephone interview with merchandisers were implemented with brand managers. Twenty-one fashion brands were included for the study. Results of the study were as followed: 1) China was a big potential apparel market due to its rapid economic growth. Apparel purchase behavior and clothing preference of Chinese consumers were various by regional groups. 2) The motives of entry to China were to competition in domestic markets, saving raw material cost. The entry modes to China were direct export, license and regional manufacturing system. 3) Marketing strategies were to pursue high quality branding, high pricing and placing strategies with high-class department stores. Also star marketing were used with "Han Rue". Also various promotion strategies were implemented such as fashion show and unique VMD. 4) The merits of Chinese market were high potential market for export, close proximity, cultural similarity and Han-Ryu syndrome. Problems of Chinese market for export were lack of experts on Chinese market, fierce competition in China, and unstable economic policies.

A Study on the Thai Consumers' Perception and Willingness to Pay for Korean Paprika and Tomatoes (태국 소비자의 한국산 파프리카 및 토마토에 대한 인식과 지불의사에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated Thai consumers' perception and willingness to pay for Korean paprika and tomatoes to establish effective export strategies, To this end, an online survey was conducted on 300 consumers living in Bangkok, Thailand, and the factors affecting the purchase intent and willingness to pay price premium for Korean paprika and tomatoes were analyzed. The results are as follows. First, Thai consumers usually buy fruit and vegetables offline, such as supermarkets and large discount stores, but not a few respondents obtained purchase information online. Second, the price competitiveness of Korean paprika and tomatoes is low to Thai products, and the quality, safety, freshness, and cost-effectiveness are similar or low to other exporting countries. Therefore it is important to improve non-price competitiveness using positive perceptions of Korean products and Korean Wave. Third, the most important reason why Thai consumers not buying Korean paprika and tomatoes is the lack of stores and high prices. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the factors affecting the purchase intent for Korean paprika and tomatoes, the strategy of selling paprika and tomatoes through supermarkets to consumers with high income is effective. Fifth, considering the factors of willingness to pay premium prices for Korean paprika and tomatoes, a high pricing strategy targeted consumers with high income and many family members is appropriate.

A Study to Promote the Export of Korean Hang Over Drinks in Russia (숙취해소음료의 러시아권 시장 수출활성화 방안)

  • To diversify the agro-food exports of Korea, this study selected Russia, which is located closet to CIS countries, as a sampling area and sought ways to promote the export of Korean hang over drinks to Russia. This study analyzed the contributing factors to the export, such as Russian consumers' purchasing intentions, as well as the willingness to pay of korean hang over drinks in Russia, using the paper review and on-off line survey data correction method. Major results are as follows. First, Russian consumers' intention of purchasing Korean hang over drinks is higher than Europe and the other products. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the demographic characteristics of Russian consumers and then actively use niche marketing strategies. Second, the purchase intention of Russian consumers towards increased when buying behavior occurred in supermarket, hypermarket- and convenience stores. Third, it seems prefer to pricing of Korean hang over drinks in Russian export market similar to the domestic price level.

Exchange Rate Pass-Through, Asymmetric Responses and Market Shares (환율 변동의 비대칭적 전이와 시장점유율)

  • This study examines ERPT with asymmetric response and both import and export market shares, using wool trade data. The study found that, asymmetric response may be as common as symmetric response. In addition, the responses (both in price and quantity demanded) to the changes in exchange rate are considerably different across goods, and even for the homogenous goods, across countries. In case of depreciation, the export price changes more than appreciation case in general, and as a result the destination price changes less. It is also found that the cases of excessive or perverse pass-through are found more frequently than reported by previous studies. This finding points out that strategic behavior of firms or unexpected response to exchange rate fluctuation takes place more frequently than we commonly expect or take, in particular at disaggregated levels. When the model considers asymmetric responses of the export price to appreciation and depreciation (of exporter's currency), the estimation provided that for 39 trade cases out of 83, export price responded to appreciation and depreciation in different fashions, although the normal response was the dominating phenomenon with 99 cases or about 60% out of 166 cases. Market shares affected the extent and direction of responses in select cases. These findings will have important implications for policy makers and traders.
