Many investigators have tried to represent the nonlinear behavior of stress-strain relationship of concrete using mathematical curves. Most of empirical expressions for stress-strain relationship, however, have focused on old age concrete, and were not able to represent well the behavior of concrete at an early age. Where wide understanding on the behavior of concrete from early age to old age is very important in evaluating the durability and service life of concrete structures. In this paper, effect of 5 different strength levels and ages of from 12 hours to 28 days on compressive stress-strain relationship was observed experimentally and analytically. Tests were carried out on $\phi$100${\times}$200mm cylindrical specimens water-cured at 20${\pm}$3$^{\circ}C$. An analytical expression of stress-stain relationship with strength and age was developed using regression analyses on experimental results. For the verification of the proposed model, the model was compared with present and existing experimental data and some existing models. The analysis shows that the proposed model predicts well experimental data and describes well effect of strength and age on stress-strain relationship.

The process of the wind noise analysis around an OSRVM is developed and is verified by simulating unsteady flow field past a generic OSRVM mounted on the flat plate at the Reynolds number of $Re_D=5.2{\times}10^5$ based on the mirror diameter. The transient flow field past a generic OSRVM is simulated with various turbulence models, namely DES-SA, LES Constant SGS, and LES Dynamic SGS. The sound radiation is predicted using the Ffowcs- Williams and Hawkings analogy. For the present simulation, the 6.35million cells are generated. Time averaged pressure coefficients at 34 locations on the surface of the generic OSRVM are compared with the available experimental data. Also, 12 Sound Pressure Levels located on the surrounding mirror are compared with the available experimental data. Both of them show good agreements with experimental data.
Recently, coastal erosion has been widely in progress and the erosion level becomes also serious in the world wide, espeically in East Sea in Korea. Since it would threaten the life, economics and security risk, it is necessary to much comprehend the reason why coastal erosion has occurred according to the geographical characteristics. Meanwhile, analysis about hydrodynamics of the solitary wave such as tunami in swash zone is needed for the best management practice of coastal erosion. Solitary wave is nonlinear wave and can be reproduced in the laboratoy scale by openning suddenly a sluice gate with water head difference, of which methodology was found in the literature, since it could be simply determined by a significant wave height. Thus, in this sutdy the generation of solitary wave was experimentalized using the sluice gate. Experimental conditions were classified by angles of a beach slope, a water level in a beach slope and a difference of water level between in a headtank and a channel bed. Two kinds of dimensionless analyses based from experimental results in this study were presented; the first analysis indicates nondimensionalization between the wave height and the water level in a beach slope in order to investigate characteristics of solitary wave approaching the beach. The second shows the other nondimensionalization between dynamic pressure and static pressure on a beach slope to investigate the relationship between wave breaking and wave pressure. Under the same conditions as laboratory experiments, the numerical results computed with a SWAN model embedded in FLOW 3D were compared in terms of wave height, and pressure on the beach slope, which shows good agreement with each other. Overall results from this study could provide fundamental hydraulic data for the reliabile verification of numerical simulation results about coastal erosion in swash zone caused by solitary waves.

During the initial stage of propulsion shaft design, the shaft alignment process includes a thorough consideration of lateral vibration to verify the operational safety of the shaft. However, a theoretical method for analyzing forced lateral vibrations has not been clearly established. The methods currently used in classification societies and international standards can only ensure a sufficient margin to avoid the blade-passing frequency resonance speed outside the range of ${\pm}20%$ of the maximum continuous rating (MCR) for the engine. Typically, in shaft alignment analyses, longer center distances between the support bearings promote affirmative results, but the blade order resonance speed can approach the lower limit for lateral vibration. Therefore, this matter requires careful attention by engineers, and a verification of the theoretical analysis by experimental measurements is highly desirable. In this study, both theoretical and experimental analyses were conducted using strain gauges under two draught conditions of vessels used as 50,000-DWT oil/chemical tankers, introduced recently as eco-friendly ships. Based on the analyses, the influence of the lateral vibration on the shafting system and the system's reliability was reviewed.

In this paper, electro-magnetic numerical analysis of MFL(magnetic flux leakage) method is presented. For the electromagnetic numerical analysis, 2-D FEM(finite element method) is used. The magnetic vector potential is used as a variable. The analysis of the magnetic field considering the magnetic nonlinearity is performed for the effect of the magnetic salutation. For the verification of the validity of the numerical simulation results, by using the lab-made experimental setup, non-destructive inspection is performed. The SM 45C carbon steel is used as a specimen and the artificial defects are made on the specimen. The non-destructive testing for the detection of the defect is performed. The results according to the variation oi the defect depth and the defect shape are obtained. The experimental results are compared to the numerical ones, and we conclude that the numerical results are similar to the experimental ones. So the possibility of simulation of the MFL by using the numerical analysis is shown in this paper.
The prediction of the ground conditions ahead of a tunnel face is very important, especially for tunnel boring machine (TBM) tunneling, because encountering unexpected anomalies during tunnel excavation can cause a considerable loss of time and money. Several prediction techniques, such as BEAM, TSP, and GPR, have been suggested. However, these methods have various shortcomings, such as low accuracy and low resolution. Most studies on electrical resistivity tomography surveys have been conducted using numerical simulation programs, but laboratory experiments were just a few. Furthermore, most studies of scaled model tests on electrical resistivity tomography were conducted only on the ground surface, which is a different environment as compared to that of mechanized tunneling. This study performed a laboratory experimental test to extend and verify a prediction method proposed by Lee et al., which used electrical resistivity tomography to predict the ground conditions ahead of a tunnel face in TBM tunneling environments. The results showed that the modified dipole-dipole array is better than the other arrays in terms of predicting the location and shape of the anomalies ahead of the tunnel face. Having longer upper and lower borehole lengths led to better accuracy of the survey. However, the number and length of boreholes should be properly controlled according to the field environments in practice. Finally, a modified and verified technique to predict the ground conditions ahead of a tunnel face during TBM tunneling is proposed.

The numerical study on the surface buoyant jets has remained of requiring more intensive investigation for problems due to the treatments of free surface, Reynolds stress/flux terms in turbulent flow and especially buoyancy effects on the turbulent fluctuation. etc. The verification of predicted results from the numerical study continues in the qualitative study. because of the lack of experimental data, which seems to be due to the difficulties in measuring the turbulent fluctuations in concentration or temperature fields. In this study, the computer program of Algebraic Stress Model has been developed to investigate the behaviours of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets with free surface boundary condition. The computational results are compared with published experimental data. By comparing these results with experimental data. it is found that this model can predict fairly well the flow characteristics of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets in the momentum-dominant region and buovancy-dominant region. Especially, it is proved that this model can predict the flow characteristics reasonably in buoyancy-dominant region stably stratified due to buoyancy effect.
In this experimental research, the maximum scour depth at pier was studied. The model of the pier of San Gye bridge in the Bocheong stream was set for experimental pier scour studies. Several model verification processes were conducted through the roughness comparisons between model and prototype, pursuring scour depth variations with time depending upon channel bed variation, the comparison of the ratio between falling velocities and shear velocities in the model and prototype, and the comparison of pier scour between experimental data and field measuring data. The experiments were conducted in the free flow conditions and pressure flow conditions. The maximum scour depth at piers in the pressure flow conditions is twice as much as compared to the free flow conditions. Also, the maximum scour depth variations are indicated in the figures based on the Froude numbers, opening ratios, water depths and approaching angles in the free surface flow conditions.

As the demand for slim laptops requires ion'-height optical disc drives, vibration problems of optical disc drives are of great concern. Additionally, with the decrease of a track width and a depth of focus in high density drives, studies on vibration resonance between mechanical parts become more important. From the vibration point of view, the performance of optical disc drives is closely related with the relative displacement between a disc and an objective lens which is controlled by servo mechanism. In other words, to read and write data properly, the relative displacement between an optical disc and an objective lens should be within a certain limit. The relative displacement is dependent on not only an anti-vibration mechanism design but also servo control capability. Good servo controls can make compensation for poor mechanisms, and vice versa. In a usual development process, robustness of the anti-vibration mechanism is always verified with the servo control of an objective lens. Engineers partially modify servo gain margin in case of a data reading error. This modification cannot correct the data reading error occasionally and the mechanism should be redesigned more robustly. Therefore it is necessary to verify a mechanism with respect to the possible servo gain plot. In this study we propose the experimental verification method far anti-vibration mechanism with respect to the existing servo gain plot. This method verifies axial vibration characteristics of optical disc drives on the basis of transmissibility. Using this method, we verified our mechanism and modified the mechanism for better anti-vibration characteristics.
An early detection of structural damages is critical for the decision making of repair and replacement maintenance in order to guarantee a specified structural reliability. Consequently, the structural damage detection, based on vibration data measured from the structural health monitoring (SHM) system, has received considerable attention recently. The traditional time-domain analysis techniques, such as the least square estimation (LSE) method and the extended Kalman filter (EKF) approach, require that all the external excitations (inputs) be available, which may not be the case for some SHM systems. Recently, these two approaches have been extended to cover the general case where some of the external excitations (inputs) are not measured, referred to as the adaptive LSE with unknown inputs (ALSE-UI) and the adaptive EKF with unknown inputs (AEKF-UI). Also, new analysis methods, referred to as the adaptive sequential non-linear least-square estimation with unknown inputs and unknown outputs (ASNLSE-UI-UO) and the adaptive quadratic sum-squares error with unknown inputs (AQSSE-UI), have been proposed for the damage tracking of structures when some of the acceleration responses are not measured and the external excitations are not available. In this paper, these newly proposed analysis methods will be compared in terms of accuracy, convergence and efficiency, for damage identification of structures based on experimental data obtained through a series of laboratory tests using a scaled 3-story building model with white noise excitations. The capability of the ALSE-UI, AEKF-UI, ASNLSE-UI-UO and AQSSE-UI approaches in tracking the structural damages will be demonstrated and compared.
