Research Trend of Studies Published in Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research, 1995-2008 ('임상간호연구' 학술지 게재논문(1995-2008년)의 연구동향 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the research trend of 341 studies published in Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research from 1995 to 2008. Methods: This study was conducted from May to November, 2009. The tool for analysis developed through literature reviews and discussions of researchers consisted of 7 categories such as characteristics of researchers, research designs, subjects, data collection methods, ethical consideration, nursing interventions, and dependent variables. Data were analyzed by frequency and percentage. Results: The mean number of author per study was 4.7, and clinical nurses were the most frequent as the first author (79.7%) and as a corresponding author (67.1%). Quantitative study was 97.6% and nonexperimental study was 51.7%. The most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental study (73.9%) among experimental studies and survey study (79.1%) among nonexperimental studies. Patients were the most frequent subjects for studies (55.8%). 46.1% of studies gathered data with questionnaire, 57.7% of studies had consent from patients, and 44.3% of studies used nursing skills for nursing interventions, and 60.0% of studies used clinical end points for dependent variables. Conclusion: The research trend of clinical nursing studies shows that clinical nurses mostly perform quasi-experimental researches to solve patients' problem and frequently use nursing skills for nursing intervention and explore the effect of nursing interventions on clinical end points.

Rule-Based Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks in Modeling Software Process Data

  • Experimental software datasets describing software projects in terms of their complexity and development time have been the subject of intensive modeling. A number of various modeling methodologies and modeling designs have been proposed including such approaches as neural networks, fuzzy, and fuzzy neural network models. In this study, we introduce the concept of the Rule-based fuzzy polynomial neural networks (RFPNN) as a hybrid modeling architecture and discuss its comprehensive design methodology. The development of the RFPNN dwells on the technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. The architecture of the RFPNN results from a synergistic usage of RFNN and PNN. RFNN contribute to the formation of the premise part of the rule-based structure of the RFPNN. The consequence part of the RFPNN is designed using PNN. We discuss two kinds of RFPNN architectures and propose a comprehensive learning algorithm. In particular, it is shown that this network exhibits a dynamic structure. The experimental results include well-known software data such as the NASA dataset concerning software cost estimation and the one describing software modules of the Medical Imaging System (MIS).

Generation Characteristics of Ozone and NOx and Particle Removal in the Electrostatic Precipitators (코로나 방전 방식에 따른 전기집진기의 오존, NOx 발생 및 입자제거 특성)

  • We investigated the amount of the toxic gases emitted from the Electrostatic Precipitators(ESPs), which are currently used as the indoor air cleaners. The existing wire-to-plate(WTP) and neddle-to-plate(NTP) types of ESP designs are considered as the experimental corona dischargers. Using the voltage, the polarity of wire, the number of needles of NTP as the input variables, we studied the generation characteristics of ozone and $NO_{x}$ and the particle removal efficiency in the ESPs. As the results, we found out that the concentration of ozone, $NO_{2}$ and $NO_{x}$ is increased with increasing the voltage and the number of needles, but the amount of NO is decreased. And we observed that the generation rates of ozone and $NO_{x}$ are mainly related with the corona region through the photographs. Finally the experimental results showed that the particle removal efficiency of ESP with WTP type charger is more superior to that with NTP type chargers at the same voltage.

Experimental Research of an ECR Heating with R-wave in a Helicon Plasma Source

  • We have researched on controlling an electron temperature and a plasma collision frequency to study the effect of collisions on helicon plasmas. So, we have designed and constructed an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating system in the helicon device as an auxiliary heating source. Since then, we have tried to optimize experimental designs such as a magnetic field configuration for ECR heating and 2.45GHz microwave launching system for its power transfer to the plasma effectively, and have characterized plasma parameters using a Langmuir probe. For improving an efficiency of the ECR heating with R-wave in the helicon plasma, we would understand an effect of R-wave propagation with ECR heating in the helicon plasma, because the efficiency of ECR heating with R-wave depends on some factors such as electron temperature, electron density, and magnetic field gradient. Firstly, we calculate the effect of R-wave propagation into the ECR zone in the plasma with those factors. We modify the magnetic field configuration and this system for the effective ECR heating in the plasma. Finally, after optimizing this system, the plasma parameters such as electron temperature and electron density are characterized by a RF compensated Langmuir probe.

Circular Holes Punched in a Magnetic Circuit used in Microspeakers to Reduce Flux Leakage

  • Lower flux leakage designs have become important in the development of microspeakers used in thin and miniaturized mobile phones. We propose four methods to reduce the flux leakage of the magnetic circuit in a microspeaker. Optimization was performed based on the proposed approach by using the response surface method. Electromagnetic analyses were conducted using the finite element method. Experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated results obtained in one degree-of-freedom analysis from 100 to 5 kHz. Both the simulated and experimental results confirm that one of the proposed methods is much more effective in reducing flux leakage than the other methods. In the optimized method, compared with a default approach, the average radial flux density in the air gap decreased only by 5.5%, the maximum flux leakage was reduced by 28.6%, and the acoustic performance at primary resonance decreased by 0.45 dB, which gap is indiscernible to the human ear.

  • Aesthetics undertakes important roll in design as a competitive factor. The importance of aesthetics can be found in experimental aesthetics, Gestalt psychology and design related literatures. These literatures suggest that, besides the importance of aesthetics, many other aesthetic factors would affect consumer reaction(recognition, emotional reaction, meaning), but the study is still in insufficient condition. Hense, this study tries to give a guideline -'how to design symbols'based on the apprehension of what kind of design is well recognized(correct recognition), gives positive emotional reaction(affect) to customers, and moreover, what sort of aesthetic factors affect these reactions by analyzing existing symbol designs.

Penetrating behavior of target prawns (Sicyonia penicillata) contacting netting panels in an experimental water tunnel

  • Capture efficiencies of commercial shrimp trawls may improve if their designs took into better account behavioral responses of wild shrimp to approaching cod-end of the trawls. Here we report results of water tunnel-based experimental studies of responses of wild California target prawns to several different near-realistic netting configurations over a range of water velocities (0.3-0.7 m/s). Netting panels were oriented at parallel to water flows (FP) on the bottom of test section, vertical (VT) or diagonal sloping backward (DG), bottom to top. Behavioral responses were recorded by video camera and analyzed frame by frame. Measured responses included rates of penetrating through netting by behavioral features and tail-flip frequencies. Frequencies of prawn passing through the nets increased with flow speed for both orientations and were higher at given speeds for sloped nets. Other behavioral features (e.g., passage head-or tail-first) also varied significantly with water velocities and netting orientation. Interactions of penetrating rates between netting orientations and flow speeds also were significantly dependent, except for prawn size. Additional studies are needed of other shrimp species and at higher water velocities more similar to actual field operations using trawls to improve size selectivity.

Persuasion Effects of Political Ad Message Types: The Moderating Role of Persuasion Knowledge (정치광고의 메시지 유형이 설득효과에 미치는 영향 - 설득지식의 조절효과 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine sidedness effects of political Ad message and moderating roles of consumers' persuasion knowledge. To test these research hypotheses, this study conducted experimental designs. 125 undergraduate students were assigned to one of the two experimental groups. The data demonstrate that message types have a significant effect on both reliability toward Ad message and acceptance intention. In addition, consumers' persuasion knowledge plays a significant moderating role between the message types and the dependent variables. The results of this study suggest various implications by indicating political Ad message as an important factor which can enhance customers' positive responses but has been passed over by the previous research. We also indicated the limitations of this study, and suggested the future research directions.

Modeling and experimental comparative analysis on the performance of small-scale wind turbines

  • This paper deals with the design, wind tunnel testing, and performance analysis of small wind turbines targeting low-power applications. Three different small-size blade designs in terms of size, shape, and twisting angle are considered and tested. We conduct wind tunnel tests while measuring the angular speed of the rotating blades, the generated voltage, and the current under varying resistive loading and air flow conditions. An electromechanical model is also used to predict the measured voltage and power and verify their consistency and repeatability. The measurements are found in qualitative agreement with those reported in previously-published experimental works. We present a novel methodology to estimate the mechanical torque applied to the wind turbine without the deployment of a torque measuring device. This method can be used to determine the power coefficient at a given air speed, which constitutes an important performance indicator of wind turbines. The wind tunnel tests revealed the capability of the developed wind turbines to deliver more than 1225 mW when subject to an air flow with a speed of 7 m/s. The power coefficient is found ranging between 26% and 32%. This demonstrates the aerodynamic capability of the designed blades to extract power from the wind.

Analysis of Smoking and Smoking Cessation Related Nursing Research in Korea and its Future Direction (국내 흡연과 금연관련 간호 연구동향 및 미래 방향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the contents and trend of smoking and smoking cessation related nursing research in Korea and to suggest the directions for future research. Method: Eight nursing professional Journals published by the Korean Academic Nursing Society and by 7 - adult, community, psychiatric, fundamental, obstetrics, pediatrics, administrative- nursing societies from beginning edition to October 2005 were selected. They were examined for the proportion of published research, participants, research designs, key words, measurement tools, and the intervention outcomes in the case of the experimental research. Result: Of the research analyzed, 87 studies were smoking and smoking cessation related research. The Journals, which had published the most number of smoking and smoking cessation research were J of Korean Academic Society, J of Korean Adult Nursing Society, J of Korean Community Nursing Society. The most popular research design was an descriptive design. The major concepts studied were related psychosocial variables. Among 87 studies, only 11 were experimental research. Conclusion: Research on smoking and smoking cessation in the nursing discipline are increasing. However more research to test the effectiveness of nursing intervention programs are needed.
