  • We apply Return Dispersion Model by calculating CSAD (Cross-sectional standard deviation of return) and State Space Model to identify herding behavior in the period of pandemic (H1N1 and COVID-19). Employing data from TEJ and Data Stream, this paper examines whether the herding behavior is existing in Vietnam and Taiwan stock market, especially during pandemic influenza. We compare the differences in herding behavior between frontier and emerging markets by examining different industries across Vietnam and Taiwan stock market approaches. The results indicate solid evidence for investor herd configuration in the various industries of Vietnam and Taiwan. The herding impact in the industries will be greater than with the aggregate market. The different industries respond differently to influenza pandemic panics through uptrend and downtrend demonstrations. Up to 12 industries were found to have herding in Vietnam, while Taiwan had only 5 of 17 industries classified. Taiwan market, an emerging and herding-level market, has changed due to the impact of changing conditions such as epidemics, but not as strongly as in Vietnam. From there, we see that the disease is a factor that, not only creates anxiety from a health perspective, but also causes psychological instability for investors when investing in the market.

  • This research aims to confirm if the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on existing sectors, and how that affects the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) market returns. The research method used is an event study employing market models in nine sectors of the Exchange with purposive sampling technique, and supported by Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression. Based on the calculation of abnormal returns in the period of 30 days before up to 30 days after, the financial property, real estate, and construction sector results show a decreased abnormal return value. The infrastructure, utilities, and transportation sectors also show an abnormal return value that tends to be constant, while the abnormal return value increases in other sectors. Judging from the cumulative value of abnormal returns, the most affected sector is financials, followed by the trade, service, and investment sectors. The consumer goods and mining industry sectors are still optimistic, while other sectors show temporary negative sentiment. Overall, the stocks on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with a cumulative negative value of the average abnormal return sample. The results using OLS regression also strengthen the relationships between the COVID-19 pandemic, and negative and significant market returns.

  • We analyze the types of Web3 business model innovation (BMI) of the six major Korean game companies by market size. As a result of the analysis, Nexon is watched as the adapter. It introduces blockchain (BC) layer 2, 'Polygon' to the extended ecosystem such as the creator's secondary creation, item utility, and compensation experience using the existing core intellectual property (IP). KakaoGames and Neowiz are watched as the adventurers. KakaoGames introduces BC layer 2, 'Polygon' and 'Near Protocol' to various experiments using tokenomics models in casual games and massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) using several existing popular IPs. Neowiz also introduces BC layer 2, 'Polygon' and 'Avalanche' to the IntellaX platform using existing game IPs. As the reinventor, Netmable positions as a game publisher that releases third-party games based on multi-chain infrastructure such as Klaytn, BNB Chain, Near Protocol, Aptos Foundation, and introduces BC to new core IPs. Finally, there are Wemade and Com2us as the mavericks. They aim to be the Web3 platform operators that create a BC layer 1 ecosystem and provide services that encompass BC games, GameFi, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Here are the implications of the four types of BMI. In terms of infrastructure, Nexon, KakaoGames, and Neowiz try to introduce a part of cross-chain, whereas Netmable tries to move toward a complete multi-chain strategy, and Wemade and Com2us also try to consider multi-chain, even if they have the full BC introduction. In terms of defending against market decline, Nexon and Netmable have a different position. Nexon which has a greater market dominance, only tries to continuously experiment, but Netmable is aggressively focusing on monetizing new products. Attacks on growth aspirations also show two different positions. KakaoGames and Neowiz only try to aggressively explore, while WeMade and Com2us try to set new standards for industrial innovation.

  • What impact does the sharing economy have on existing businesses? This paper empirically examines how Uber transformed the taxi industry in New York City. Using a regression model controlling various potential influencing factors, we find no direct evidence that daily trips or revenue per taxi driver decreased since Uber entered the taxi industry. However, a closer investigation into other dimensions of taxi trips reveals that taxi drivers were forced to change their way of doing businesses to retain existing daily trips and revenue. Since Uber crowded out yellow taxis from the central area of Manhattan, yellow taxis responded by serving customers outside of the Manhattan borough. From enlarging their geographical coverage and serving customers that were previously ignored, yellow taxis were able to retain their previous level of taxi trips and market share. We also find that yellow taxis responded by improving their service quality to better serve customers' needs. Our result suggests that incumbents actively responded to Uber's entry and provided substantial benefit to consumers. Combined with the incumbent's response, the sharing economy transformed the existing market in a welfare-enhancing way. This paper provides managerial and policy implication on how incumbents affected by the disruptions of the sharing economy should respond. Even though it might be yet premature to examine the impact of Uber, results suggest that incumbents have effectively defended against Uber's entry so far. We conclude that the sharing economy and the existing economy can create positive value in our society through well-intentioned competition, complementing each other's weaknesses and strengths.
