대형디젤엔진의 오염물질 배출특성 (Characteristics of Exhaust Emissions from a Heavy-duty Diesel Engine)

  • The proportion of diesel vehicle is very high in this country . PM and NOx emitted from diesel-posered vehicle is severely ;affecting to be air quality . Especially, diesel particulate matters(DPM) including black smoke are hazardous air pollutants to human health and environment. In order to reduce the exhaust emissions from diesel engines, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of exhaust emissions from diesel engines in various driving conditions. Recently, there are occasion to increase the fuel consumption rate to engine power up. So, in this study we have tested a diesel engine detached from in use -diesel vehicle and analyzed exhaust emission by driving condition and fuel dispersion rate. From this results, we will prepare the comprehensive management plan for exhaust emissions from diesel vehicles and contribute to the improvement of air pollution in urban area.

조리대에 급기구를 가진 주방 레인지후드의 배기 성능 (Exhaust Performance of a Kitchen Hood System with a Supply Air Slot on a Kitchen Table)

  • There have been many cases when an air curtain installed in the apartment could not remove the gases well, such as carbon dioxide and particles like as smoke, oils, and vapors generated during cooking to disperse pollutants into the room. This study used a numerical analysis to show how the pollutant-removing performance of the range hood is changed when the air curtain is installed front of the kitchen table. The result of this study was that when the air amount supplied by an air curtain through the slot was about 50% of the exhaust amount, the capturing efficiency of the range hood for pollutants increased 90% more than without an air curtain. Even when the amount of supplied air was small, the capturing efficiency improved markedly with the use of an upward air curtain. In case that the air flow rate of the slot was greater than 60%, the capturing efficiency decreased.

A study on measurement of particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and carbon oxide from main engine in training ship

  • In this study, we have carried out measurement for exhaust emissions such as particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxide and carbon oxide from main engines installed on the training ships, HANBADA and HANNARA, of Korea Maritime University. In particular, we considered the two conditions; at arrivals/departures and at constant speed of about 160 rpm. The result showed that the concentration of PM at the ship arrival was 2.41mg/m3. On the other hand, when the ship is on the navigation condition, the concentration of PM was 1.34 mg/m3. The concentrations of nitrogen oxide and carbon oxide were measured in the range of 1,120~1,600 ppm and 320~1,450 ppm at the arrival and departure at the port. Under constant speed condition, the concentrations of nitrogen oxide and carbon oxide were 913~1,470 ppm and 73~460 ppm, respectively. Generally, the concentrations of exhaust emissions under the arrivals and departures were higher than that of constant speed condition. These results imply that the ship operation skill to prevent a sudden load change of main engine is needed during the arrival or departure. In addition, it means that the difference of exhaust emissions according to navigation conditions has to be considered when the reduction technologies of air pollutants from ships are developed.

에어커튼형 주방 레인지후드의 배기 특성 (Exhaust Characteristics of Kitchen Hood System with Inclined Air Curtain)

  • There have been many cases that the air curtain installed in the apartment can not well remove the gases such as carbon dioxide and particles such as smokes, oils and vapors generated during the cooking to disperse the pollutants into the room. This study uses the numerical analysis to show how the pollutant-removing performance of the range hood is changed when the air curtain is installed on the range hood of kitchen. As a result of the study, it turned out that, when the air amount supplied by air curtain through the slot was about 60% of exhaust amount, the capturing efficiency of range hood for pollutants increased by 70~80% more than the case without the air curtain. Even when the exhaust amount was small, the capturing efficiency was improved a lot with the use of air curtain. In case that the air flow velocity of slot was greater than 2 m/s, the capturing efficiency turned out to decrease.

Modeling Study on Dispersion and Scavenging of Traffic Pollutants at the Location Near a Busy Road

  • The information about the dispersion and scavenging of traffic-related pollutants at the locations near busy expressways is very helpful to highway planners for developing better plans to reduce exposures to air pollution for people living as well as children attending schools and child care centers near roadways. The objective of the current study was to give information in the dispersion and scavenging of vehicle-derived pollutants at the region near a busy urban expressway by a combination of two different model calculations. The modified Gaussian dispersion model and the Lagrange type below-cloud scavenging model were applied to evaluate $NO_x$ dispersion and DEP (Diesel exhaust particles) wet removal, respectively. The highest $NO_x$ was marked 53.17 ppb within 20-30 meters from the target urban expressway during the heaviest traffic hours (08:00AM-09:00AM) and it was 2.8 times higher than that of really measured at a nearby ambient measuring station. The calculated DEP concentration in size-resolved raindrops showed a continuous decreasing with increasing raindrop size. Especially, a noticeable decrease was found between 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm raindrop diameter.

  • When oil is used for cooking in detached or apartment houses, large amounts of oil-mist, smoke, and particulate substances are generated and dispersed into the indoor-air environment. These pollutants diffuse into the surroundings and spread their odor while rising fast at a high temperature due to the heat energy from the gas range. Although the exhaust gas is discharged from the exhaust hood, which is installed on the top of a gas range to remove the diffuse pollutants, the exhaust conditions can vary greatly because they depend on the shape of the exhaust hood and the discharge rate. In this paper, the air that is required for the gas-exhaustion process is supplied by an air curtain that surrounds the kitchen hood, and the pollutant-capturing efficiency varies depending on the angle of the discharge grills; the pollutant-capturing efficiency was studied using a numerical-analysis method. The results indicate that the pollutant-capturing efficiency is not significantly changed by a change of the discharge-grill angle at a low air-discharge rate; however, at a high air-discharge rate, the efficiency value increases with an increase of the discharge-grill angle, whereby the best value occurs at 30 degrees and the efficiency decreases above this angle. Below 30 degrees, the effect of the discharge rate on the capturing efficiency is more than that of the discharge-grill angle.

Design of gas suspension absorber to improve desulfurization efficiency

  • 본 연구에서는 배기가스가 흡수탑으로 균일하게 유입될 수 있도록 가스 부유식 흡수탑의 입구덕트와 안내깃을 다시 설계하여 탈황효율을 높이고자 한다. 산업용 보일러에서 대기오염 물질의 주 발생원인 중에서 황산화물의 오염물질을 저감하기 위해 기존의 장치를 다시 설계하여 해결하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 가스 부유식 흡수탑 내부에서 배기가스 중에 SOx 성분의 제거효율을 높일 수 있도록 배기가스, 슬러리와 재순환 흡착제가 균일하게 접촉하도록 변경한다. 그리고 보일러 출구에서부터 가스 부유식 흡수탑 출구까지 압력손실에 대한 초기 설계값과 CFD 값을 비교하여 검증한다. 또한 배기가스의 속도분포, 재순환 흡착제 농도분포, 액상 슬러리 거동, 압력손실을 각각 비교하였다. 그 결과는 보일러 출구에서부터 흡수탑 출구까지 압력손실이 감소하고, 배기가스의 편향이 최소화되므로 인해 탈황 효율이 개선되었음을 확인하였다.

공동주택의 국소배기용 루프팬 성능개선에 관한 연구 (Study on the Performance Improvement of Roof Fan Used for Local Exhaust System Installed in Apartment)

  • Performance improvement of local exhaust system used in toilet and cooking place are main concern in a field of ventilation. In Korea, There are many high riser residential apartments in recent years. These buildings were not viewed as being major contributors to exhaust pollutants producted in indoor. It was because many engineers thought that exhaust in high riser building depends on stack effect. This study investigates on the performance improvement of terminal device, roof fan, of vertical spiral duct used in high riser residential apartments. This paper focuses mainly on the effect of accessories, number or shape of blades, composed of roof fan with function of exhaust air volume of toilet and cooking place. Roof fan with 10 blades is observed at optimum exhaust performance in this study.
