Characteristics on the Pressure Variations According to the Exhaust Pipe Shape of 4-Stroke Gasoline Engine (4행정 가솔린 엔진의 배기관 형상에 따른 압력 변동 특성)

  • In this study. an experimental study has been introduced for the various exhaust pipe geometry of 4-stroke single cylinder engine. The main experimental parameters are the variation of exhaust pipe diameters and lengths to measure the pulsating flow when the intake and exhaust valves are working. As the results of experimental test, the various exhaust geometry were influenced strongly on the exhaust pressure. As the exhaust pipe diameter was decreased, the amplitude and the number of compression wave in exhaust pressure was increased. According to decreasing pipe diameter, the number of compression wave in exhaust pressure was decreased.

  • In this study, a experimental method has been introduced for the various exhaust pipe geometry of 4-stroke single engine. The main experimental parameters are the variation of exhaust pipe diameters and lengths, to measuring the pulsating flow when the intake and exhaust valves are working, As the results of experimental test, the various exhaust geometry were influenced strongly on the exhaust pressure.   • This study is focused on the development of a new muffler. A control valve installed in the exhaust system is operated by torsion springs, and its open angle is controlled automatically corresponding to the engine operating conditions. The experiments were done using an exhaust system simulator having the same pulsation wave frequency and similar pulsation propagation characteristics of a real exhaust system. The purpose of this study is to develop a new muffler system which has improved noise reduction quality and less power loss than conventional mufflers and electronic-control mufflers.

  • Experimental studies were performed to improve the THC emission characteristics by optimizing the flow in the exhaust manifold and CCC in a SI engine. For this purpose the flow characteristics in the exhaust manifold and CCC were measured by using LDV technique under various engine conditions, Referring to these data a new type exhaust manifold was designed to improve the cold-start emission characteristics and the response characteristics of {{{{ OMICRON _2}}}} sensor by optimizing the flow pattern and reducing the thermal inertia of the exhaust manifold system. It was found through the vehicle emission tests that the emission characteristics of THC of the new type exhaust manifold was improved by 12% through the optimizing the flow pattern in the exhaust manifold.

  • This study is focused on the development of a new muffler. A control valve and a control muffler sensing exhaust-gas pressure are made f3r developing a new muffler. The experiments were done using an exhaust system simulator having the same pulsation wave frequency and similar pulsation propagation characteristics of a real exhaust system. The purpose of this study is to develope a new muffler system which has improved noise reduction quality and less power loss than conventional mufflers and electronic-control mufflers. Finally the characteristic of noise compared with conventional muffler and muffler sensing exhuast-gas pressure.

  • The muffler which reduce the exhaust noise and vibration from engine influence on the engine performance. Recently, exhaust variable valve has set up in the muffler controls the backpressure in the exhaust system. And the backpressure variation according to the exhaust variable valve opening has developed the engine performance. First, the preceding of structural analysis is needed and simulation experiment is requested for the study on the design factor to influence on the operation of the exhaust variable valve. In this study, setting up the various variables according to each composition element needed for the structural analysis of the exhaust variable valve, it is experimented the analysis on the influence of each design factor with the calculation of stress distribution and the displacement to cause about the backpressure for the valve through parameter study.

  • The need for an active exhaust moise controller has been growing as an reinforcement of exhaust noise regulation, high power output and improvement of average fuel economy. In this study, for development of this active exhaust noise controller, the implementation of a composition of realtime control algorithm for active exhaust noise control and the construction of simulator for realtime control algorithm for active exhaust noise control has been investigated. Also, in order to implement active exhaust noise control with this simulator, the feasibility model for control of vehicle exhaust noise control is suggested.

  • Experimental study of variation of exhaust gas temperature was carried out with the changes of spark timing and exhaust valve timing during the cold start operation of an SI engine. To investigate the effects of these variables on combustion stability, cylinder pressure and exhaust gas temperature were measured and analyzed. Experimental results showed that exhaust gas temperature increased when spark and exhaust valve timings were retarded from the baseline cases. However, combustion stability during cold start deteriorated under the retarded conditions. To increase exhaust gas temperature for fast warmup of catalysts while maintaining combustion stability, an optimal condition for spark and valve timing retard should be appied for the cold start period.

  • This study identified concentrations of all pollutants emitted from idling of vehicles such as cars, taxis, trucks, and buses. In this investigation we analyzed concentrations of $SO_2$, NOx, CO, and $CO_2$ omitted from exhaust pipe of vehicles as a function of vehicle type, mileage, exhaust volume, and fuel type using the GreenLine. Compact or light cars, which have relatively low exhaust volume, showed much higher exhaust concentrations of $CO_2$, CO, and NOx than those emitted from vehicles with high exhaust volume. Vehicles using light oil showed much higher exhaust NOx concentrations than those of vehicles using gasoline. Vehicles using LPG and compact cars showed very high exhaust CO concentration compared to other vehicles. NOx exhaust concentrations were increased with increasing the mileage of vehicles.

  • Local exhaust system used in toilet and cooking place of low-rise public house installed roof ventilator at terminal of stack. There are many high riser public houses in Korea. These buildings were not viewed as being major contributors to exhaust pollutants producted in indoor. It was because many engineers thought that exhaust in high riser public house depends on stack effect. But Neutral pressure level represents in a terminal of stack with air tightness for the best exhaust efficiency. Thereby, lower floors have the worst indoor air quality. This paper focuses mainly on the exhaust efficiency improved by roof fan with motor installed in high riser public house. It is observed there is higher exhaust efficiency than the existing natural roof ventilator.
