Manufacturing process for the microfluidic device can include such sequential steps as master fabrication, electroforming, and injection molding. The laser ablation using masks has been applied to the fabrication of channels in microfluidic devices. In this study, manufacturing of polymer master and mold insert for micro injection molding was investigated. Ablation of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) by the excimer laser radiation could be used successfully to make three dimensional master fur nickel mold insert. The mechanism fur ablative decomposition of PET with KrF excimer laser $({\lambda}: 248 nm, pulse duration: 5 ns)$ was explained by photochemical process, while ablation mechanism of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) is dominated by photothermal process, the .eaction between PC (polycarbonate) and KrF excimer laser beam generate too much su.face debris. Thus, PET was adopted in polymer master for nickel mold insert. Nickel electroforming using laser ablated PET master was preferable for replication method. Finally, it was shown that excimer laser ablation can substitute for X-ray lithography of LIGA process in microstructuring.

Hydrophobic thin films are variously applicable for encapsulation of organic devices and water repulsive glass, etc. In this work, the stability of hydrophobic characteristics of plasma polymerized tetrakis (trimethylsilyloxy) silane (ppTTMSS) thin films were investigated. The films were deposited with plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) on the glass. The deposition plasma power and deposition pressure was 70 W and 600 mTorr, respectively. Thereafter, deposited films were treated by 248nm KrF excimer laser. Stability of hydrophobic properties of plasma polymerized tetrakis(trimethylsilyloxy)silane film surface was tested by excimer laser irradiation, which is thought to simulate severe outdoor conditions. Excimer laser irradiation cycles changed from 10 to 200 cycles. The chemical structure and hydrophobicity of ppTTMSS films were analyzed by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and water contact angle (WCA) measurement, respectively. Absorption spectra peaks and WCA of excimer laser treated ppTTMSS films did not change notably. These results show that our ppTTMSS films possess stable hydrophobic properties.

The effect of excimer laser annealing on the structural and dielectric behaviors of $PbZr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48}O_3$ (PZT) thin films has been investigated. The amorphous PZT thin films were prepared on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates by a sol-gel method. The PZT precursor was prepared from lead acetate, zirconium acetylacetonate, and titanium isopropoxide. The starting materials were dissolved in n-propanol and 1,3-propanediol. After, the amorphous PZT thin films were laser-annealed (using KrF excimer laser) as a function of the laser energy density and the number of laser pulse. Structural properties of PZT thin films are characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The dielectric characterization was done on a RT66A test system and a Agilent 4294A impedance analyzer. The PZT thin films show that excimer laser irradiation drastically improved the crystallization and dielectric properties of the PZT thin films, depending on the energy density and the pulse number.
The fluorescence characteristics of copolymers of styrene-maleic anhydride(PSMAn), styrene-maleic acid (PSMA), and PSMA complexed with $Eu^{3+}$ (PSMA-Eu) in tetrahydrofuran were studied. The excimer of PSMA and PSMA-Eu with 75% mole fraction of styrene appears to have larger binding energy than that with 50% or 67% styrene. The ratio of excimer to monomer intensities showed little change with the increase of styrene concentration up to $8.0{\times}10^{-3}M$, indicating the excimer formation is due to intramolecular process. Three existing mechanisms for intramolecular excimer formation are considered inadequate to explain the observed behavior. The quenching of excimer intensity by benzyl-acetate, mesitylene, and $CCl_4$ is interpreted in terms of the molar volume of quencher.
The syndiotactic and atactic poly (2-N-carbazoylrnethyl) styrenes were obtained by a half-titanocene catalyst and a radical initiator for the investigation of photophysical properties, especially excimer formation. The atactic polymer exhibited only monomer emission, but the syndiotactic polymer showed both excimer emission and monomer emission resulting from the partial overlapping arrangement of carbazole pendants, The emission band of syndiotactic polymer was considerably dependent on solution concentration and temperature, however atactic polymer was independent because the excimer formation of syndiotactic helical conformation was more favorable than that of the random coil conformation of atactic polymer.
Thin Beam Excimer Laser Annealing is investigated as one possible process enabled by the variable concept of Thin Beam LTPS processing. The structure of the resulting p-Si material is analyzed in terms of grain size distribution, scaling with energy density and overlap, as well as average surface roughness. This process provides similar control and latitude as conventional excimer laser annealing, but reduced average surface roughness and the potential to be scaled to significant productivity levels.

The technology required to advance the state of the art of ultra-high-intensity excimer amplifier construction to the 100 J/100fs output pulse level is identified. The preliminary design work for very large final amplifier pumped by electron beam module is described, and key design problems and approaches are presented and discussed in detail based on the recent experimental and theoretical results.
Previous studies demonstrated that laser ablation under transparent liquid can result in ablation enhancement and particle removal from the surface. Although the ablation enhancement by liquid is already known for semiconductor and metal, the phenomena of polymer ablation have not been studied. In this work, tile liquid-assisted excimer laser ablation process is examined for polymer materials, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with emphasis on ablation enhancement and surface topography. In the case of PET and PMMA, the effect of liquid is analyzed both for thin water film and bulk water. The results show that application of liquid increases the ablation rate of PMMA while that of PET remains unchanged even in the liquid-assisted process. However, the surface roughness is generally deteriorated in the liquid-assisted process. The surface topography is found to be strongly dependent on the method of liquid application, i.e., thin film or bulk liquid.

This paper addresses the method for figuring out the hole diameter on the mask containing the information about machining depth. With this mask e micro machining is carried out with a simple 2D movement of the mask. Based on e suggested method excimer laser ablation processes are modeled and determination of the optimal laser ablation conditions such as hole diameter, step size, mask movement velocity, etc. is completed. The excimer laser ablation simulation for creating 3D micro lens is carried out by employing determined ablation conditions to prove verification of the method. The results from simulation illustrated the average error of 140nm and e relative error of 2%.

In this paper, we have investigated the output characteristics of the Stokes Raman laser in hydrogen, deuterium, and their mixed gases as a function of the incident pump energy and gas pressure using KrF excimer laser as pumping source for generating the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) wavelengths suitable in measuring the ozone concentration of the troposphere. The optimization results of compact excimer-Raman laser transmitter in DIAL system for the tropospheric ozone sounding at the 292 nm/319 m and 292 nm/313 nm wavelength pairs are presented. for the ozone sounding in the 4-12 km range, it has been demonstrated that the design of transmitter for DIAL lidar may be significantly simplified by the use of 292 nm/319 nm wavelength pair. The investigations of Raman scattering in the mixture of hydrogen and deuterium gases have shown that such mixture may be efficiently used for developing the multi- wavelength light sources for DIAL systems.
