The objective of this study is to explore the perceptions and opinions about male breast cancer and male breast self-examination among male university students. Methodology: In-depth interviews were conducted among 36 male university students from the Management and Science University, Malaysia, selected by simple random sampling. The themes of the interview were: knowledge of male breast cancer and male breast self-examination, sources of knowledge and attitudes towards male BSE. The data obtained were classified into various categories and analyzed manually. Results: The majority of participants mentioned that there is a low possibility for males to get breast cancer. They also believed that the cause of breast cancer among men is due to the carcinogens from cigarettes. The majority of participants mentioned that they know about breast self-examination from the mass media and that the presence of a lump in the breast is the main symptom of breast cancer in men. The majority of participants mentioned that they encourage their family members to practice breast self-examination but considered that BSE is not important for men because they have a low probability of getting breast cancer. Conclusions: Misconceptions regarding male breast cancer and breast self-examination among men still exist among male university students. Therefore especial attention should be given to educate men about male breast cancer and male BSE.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the proportion of fundus examination of DM patients for preventing microvascular complication and to examine the factors related to fundus examination in DM patients. Methods: This study used 2005 Korean national health and nutrition survey data. We selected all 1,129 diabetes mellitus patients from the data. And we choose 8 factors related to diabetes mellitus patients. These are sex, age group, type of residential area(rural or urban), education level, income level, comorbidity with hypertension, current insulin use, and duration of suffering from DM. We have analysed these factors by whether he had been examined fundus or no through Chi-square and logistic regression analysis. Results: Female DM patients have tendency to get more fundus examination than Male DM patients. And Young patients, patients who live in urban area, well educated patients, high income patients, comorbidity with hypertension, patients have got the insulin injection, patients have long duration of suffering from DM are to get more fundus examination. According to multivariate logistic regression analysis, sex and education level, income level, and duration of suffering from DM, comorbidity with hypertension, patients have got the insulin injection are significant factors on fundus examination for prevent microvascular diabetes mellitus complications. Conclusions and Discussion: We have concluded that physicians and policy makers should consider to fundus examination especially of man and DM patients who have more shorter disease period and low educated patients and low incomed patients and patients who have taken insulin therapy.
This study was conducted to find medical care utilization pattern and to examine the affecting factors on medical facilities utilization using Andersen's medical care service behavioral model. Three hundreds and five public officials with detected disease through the health examination in 1998 were surveyed using self-administered questionnaire. And 230 data were available and analyzed. The results of this study were summarized as follows: Among variables of predisposing factors, knowledge for disease, confidence about periodic health examination program in health insurance, and the attitude toward medical utilization in the usual showed significant relations with the medical utilization. Other variables were not related with the medical utilization. Variables of enabling factors did not show significant relations with the medical utilization. Recognition of family members for detected disease had significant relations with the medical utilization. Among variables of need factors, absence caused by detected disease was significantly related with the medical utilization. The number of non-occupational diseases detected, but untreated people were 75(32.6%) of total subjects, mainly because detected diseases seemed insignificant to them. With multiple logistic regression analysis, the significant variables having an effect on the medical facilities utilization were 'knowledge for disease', 'attitude toward medical utilization in the usual', 'recognition of family members for detected disease' and 'experience of absence caused by detected disease'. On considerations of above findings, counselling for detected disease and its treatment, health education for individuals and program for family support promotion are needed for health management of public officials with diseases detected in health examination.
Although the number of computed tomography(CT) is increasing every year, it is insufficient to establish appropriate workload calculation standards of radiologic technologist to provide optimal medical services to patients, such as patient safety management and infection management. The purpose of this study is to present guidelines for calculating the appropriate workload of radiologic technologist by analyzing the work flow of CT procedures and the time required for CT examination in major hospitals. As for the study subjects and methods, the appropriate process for each step of CT examination was investigated to systematically present the process and time required for the actual examination, and the CT procedure time of 104,105 adult patients and 465 pediatric patients under the age of 6 were analyzed. For the time required, data according to the use of contrast medium, procedure type, and adult/child were collected and compared. The test time of CT examination using contrast medium took about 13 minutes when one radiologic technologist worked and about 9 minutes when two radiologic technologists worked. The time required for the procedures were statistically significant depending on the presence or absence of contrast medium, multi-phase procedure, and patient age (considering pediatric patients). As a result, in order to thoroughly perform patient safety and infection management, the appropriate workload increased by about 40% when there were two radiologic technologists. The limit workload was an average of 32 people per day with one radiologic technologist per 15 minutes, and 48 people per day with two radiologic technologist per 10 minutes. This is a marginal workload, and in the case of procedures that require more time to acquire radiographic images, the interval between reservations should be widened.
In this research, the factor having an effect on the cancer check inspection through the cancer check service and process, of desiring against the cancer check examinee living in the illustration and rural area environment, and analysis about the result tries to be sought for. This research performed the frequency analysis, cross analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis and came to the conclusion. The examination reservation procedure, medical team professionalism, examination contents of notice, result of medical examination explanation, examination notification date, and examination duration of subscription was analyzed as the significance factor as the factor reached to the urban district inspection. And the examination contents of notice, total examination time, result of medical examination explanation, medical team professionalism, examination duration of subscription, and process of the medical examination explanation as to rural area, was analyzed as the significance factor. The cancer check was inspected according to the illustration and farming village and there was no big difference in the significance factor having an effect on the inspection. Methods: This study used the Korean National Health Insurance Database which includes E10-14(ICD-10 code) as a primary or secondary disease as of 2006. Study population is 1,892,062 diabetics excluding 393,784 patients with the first attack of DM in 2006, 33,440 diabetics who died in 2006, and 21,299 patients with DM having no record of ambulatory care among the 2,340,585 DM patients in total. Results: The HbA1c examination performance rate of all DM patients in our country is estimated to be 41.5% as of 2006 and shows variation according to the characteristic of individual DM patients. The highest performance odds was shown by the patients who were below 19 of age, insured for health insurance, attended more than 3 ambulatory care providers, made ambulatory care visits more than 10 times annually, attended a specialized general hospital as their main attending medical institution, had a record of hospitalization or had co-morbidity.
