This paper reviews the emerging literature on innovation policy from a practitioner's perspective, reviews the policy implications of an evolutionary perspective in economics, and identifies newly emerging areas of innovation policy analysis. We show that an innovation system is a dominant policy discourse, that there are limits of policy implications from an evolutionary perspective, and that there is a need for explicitly policy motivated analysis grounded in a broad evolutionary perspective. Innovation policy studies are an area in pre-paradigmatic stages whose dynamism originates from the interaction of theory, policy, and policy learning. The limited usefulness of policy implications derived directly from either conceptual or empirical analysis requires more explicitly policy focused research.

The purpose of this study is to review the literatures on the evolutionary perspective on education and to draw the educational implications for science education. This study addresses on several topics as follows: our common misunderstandings about the evolutionary perspective on education; children's inherent knowledge and abilities, their learning about the evolutionarily novel knowledge and abilities in school, their difficulties in academic learning, and the instructional strategies to cope with the difficulties; and the implications for science education from the evolutionary perspective. The evolutionary perspective on education has provided new insights how culturally important information is transmitted across generations in the past hunting-gathering societies and the modern societies, and how children's inherent motivational and behavioral dispositions affect their academic learning. In addition, the new perspective on education can be used to generate empirical hypotheses about children's science learning, and with the further research, could lead to useful implications and ultimately improve educational outcomes.

The mutation operation is the main operation in the evolutionary programming which has been widely used for the optimization of real valued function. In general, the mutation operation utilizes both a probability distribution and its parameter to change values of variables, and the parameter itself is subject to its own mutation operation which requires other parameters. However, since the optimal values of the parameters entirely depend on a given problem, it is rather hard to find an optimal combination of values of parameters when there are many parameters in a problem. To solve this shortcoming at least partly, if not entirely, in this paper, we propose a new mutation operation in which the parameter for the variable mutation is theoretically estimated from the self-adaptive perspective. Since the proposed algorithm estimates the scale parameter of the Cauchy probability distribution for the mutation operation, it has an advantage in that it does not require another mutation operation for the scale parameter. The proposed algorithm was tested against the benchmarking problems. It turned out that, although the relative superiority of the proposed algorithm from the optimal value perspective depended on benchmarking problems, the proposed algorithm outperformed for all benchmarking problems from the perspective of the computational time.

This paper aims to provide an evolutionary theory of firm existence and boundaries. We explicitly discuss about the cause of firm existence from the viewpoint of evolutionary economics, combine functionalistic and process-oriented explanation of firm evolution, and propose industry-level theory of firm boundaries. Vertical and horizontal firm boundaries are explained in the same frame.

So far, most research studying the causality of autism has focused on neurobiological or psychological aspects. However, most studies have dealt with only proximal causality of autism, and there is little research on its ultimate causality. 'Evolutionary perspective', which has received attention recently in various academic fields, suggests several theories regarding the ultimate causality of autism. We reviewed different theories on the evolution of autism, and discussed both the merits and the limitations of the theories.

The purpose of this study is to understand the evolution of food culture by applying the evolutionary mechanism to the process of forming the dog meat culture. To do this, this study first examined mutation, selection, and replication as a evolutionary mechanism by biological genes and explain the evolutionary process of food culture by applying so-called 'mime' which is a virally-transmitted cultural symbol or social idea. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. In addition, this study also intended to use in-depth interviews on how people have diverse cultural perspectives interpret and accept edible culture of dog meat. In Korea, which was a traditional farming society, dog meat which is easier to obtain compare to beef has been chosen as an important source of protein. And this choice has been repeatedly reproduced through generations. However, the current generation's awareness of the edible culture of dog meat has changed. The meme of pet culture has been selected and replicated, and this cultural evolution will eventually lead to the culling of dog meat.

The relevance between organisms and their external environment covers everything including humans, natural and artificial surroundings, regarding which academic and scientific understanding has continued. Relevant elements established by inter-dependence between humans and environment and the unity of life should be translated from the perspective of a whole, not of unit elements or reduction. That is, a space is formed by its own program and assumes sustainable relevance based on interactions between internal and external spaces, not building an independent system. The present study aims to present the feasibility of a potential mutant space formed by invisible arenas between individuals and evolutionary space formation based on an ecological paradigm Accordingly, this study suggested that evolutionary attributes as the major power source of biological changes could verify the virtual multiplicity of a new space formation, and that the potential form generation of hybrid mutant space of emergence and infinite formative capability could be supported. The suggestions made here will hopefully contribute to extending applicability of evolutionary space generation in the field of space design. To derive the potential mutant forms from biological space, a preliminary study was conducted regarding the characteristics of evolutionary form generation. For the purpose of this study, three evolutionary perspectives of reproduction, mutation (variation) and selection were taken. First, the theory of evolution was defined and characterized. Also, the relevance between the characteristics generated and hybrid mutant space was analyzed to consider relevant characteristics. The present study helped to understand that the hybrid mutant space had an evolutionary space structure based on a biological paradigm. It was also found that the mutant space structure built by mutant polymorphism assumed a systematic correlation between space and environment.

Caregiving for the children seems to be one of the most challenging tasks for the parents who should devote themselves totally despite endangering them. From the evolutionary perspective, this human behavior must have been the advantage in the survival of the species and rooted in ethological origin. John Bowlby, a child psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and great developmental researcher, had formulated the attachment theory linking psychoanalysis and ethology through evolutionary biology. His and later following researchers' outcomes have provided enormous influence on viewing parental caregiving and the insight of human relationships and interventions. This article overviews the attachment theory in terms of the goal oriented cybernetic system to gain the survival advantage of the offspring and investigates the evolutionary origin of the caregiving and attachment from the retiles of the Mesozoic era to the mammalian revolution and finally to the human being. Deeper understanding of the nurturance and adult relationships from the standpoint of evolution can provide clinical utility of awareness of clients' lives.

The influences of sciences on literature have been much researched as relatively familiar themes, and especially the impact of Darwin's evolutionary theory has been interesting research themes on 19th-century history and "Two Cultures". This article outlines the impact of Darwin's evolutionary theory on literatures of the 19th-century British and enlightening-and-colonial-era Korea focusing on some significant features of literary changes, with help of existing researches. It will also give a brief overview of evolutionary psychology as a new perspective of literary criticism. In particular, it will try to show that many transformations of poems and novels appeared diversely depending on different circumstances and various religious or social beliefs societies and individuals were facing and having, and that new understanding of metaphor, narrative, and mind through rediscovery of nature, human and evolution underlay the big changes of literatures.
