Differential evolution is an efficient algorithm for continuous optimization problems. However, applying differential evolution to solve large-scale optimization problems quickly degrades performance and exponentially increases runtime. To overcome this problem, a new cooperative coevolution differential evolution based on Spark (referred to as SparkDECC) is proposed. The divide-and-conquer strategy is used in SparkDECC.

A full three-dimensional thermo-coupled rigid-viscoplastic finite element method and the currently developed microstructural evolution system which includes semi-empirical equations suggested by different research groups were used together to form an integrated system of process and micro- structure simulation of hot rolling. The distribution and time histroy of the momechanical variables such as temperature, strain, strain rate, and time during pass and between passes were obtained from the finite element analysis of multipass hot rolling processes. The distribution of metallurgical variables were calculated on the basis of instantaneous thermomechanical data. For the verification of this method the evolution of microstructure in plate rolling and shape rolling was simulated and their results were compared with the data available in the literature. Consequently, this approach makes it possible to describe the realistic evolution of microstructure by avoiding the use of erroneous average value and can be used in CAE of multipass hot rolling.

In this paper, we propose a new design method of an optimal fuzzy logic controller using co-evolutionary concept. In general, it is very difficult to find optimal fuzzy rules by experience when the input and/or output variables are going to increase. Futhermore proper fuzzy partitioning is not deterministic ad there is no unique solution. So we propose a co-evolutionary method finding optimal fuzzy rules and proper fuzzy membership functions at the same time. Predator-Prey co-evolution and symbiotic co-evolution algorithms, typical approaching methods to co-evolution, are reviewed, and dynamic fitness landscape associated with co-evolution is explained. Our algorithm is that after constructing two population groups made up of rule base and membership function, by co-evolving these two populations, we find optimal fuzzy logic controller. By applying the propose method to a path planning problem of autonomous mobile robots when moving objects applying the proposed method to a pa h planning problem of autonomous mobile robots when moving objects exist, we show the validity of the proposed method.
Binary interactions may have significant impact on Pop III stellar evolution. Pop III single star evolution indicates that for primary masses less than $20M_{\odot}$, no significant binary mass transfer would occur before core helium exhaustion. We perform binary system evolution for various primary masses ($20M_{\odot}$ < $M_1$ < $60M_{\odot}$) and initial periods under same mass ratio $M_2/M_1=0.9$, and follow the evolution and mass transfer of the primary star. If binary mass transfer occurs during post main sequence, the primary star does not evolve into naked helium star and still contain significant hydrogen in the envelope. During the post mass transfer phase, the primary star evolves redward, and does not become sufficiently hot to enhance the number of ionizing photons, compared to the case of single star evolution for a given initial mass. This result implies that primary stars of massive Pop III binary systems would have little contribution to the reionization in the early universe. Given the large hydrogen content ($0.326-1.793M_{\odot}$), the primary stars that underwent stable mass transfers would explode as a Type IIb supernova, and it would be difficult for Pop III binary stars to produce Type Ib/c supernovae that look similar to those found in the local universe.

For the effective operation of manufacturing system, FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) and CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) system are developed. In these systems, a machine tool is the target of integration in last 3 decades. In nowadays, the conventional concept of machine tools is changing to the autonomous manufacturing device based on knowledge-evolution through applying advanced information technology in which open architecture controller, high speed network and internet technology are contained. In this environment, a machine tool is not the target of integration but the subject of cooperation. In the future, a machine tool will be more improved in the form of a knowledge-evolution based device. In order to develop the knowledge-evolution based machine tools, this paper proposes the structure of knowledge evolution in M2M(Machine To Machine) and the scheme of a dialogue agent among agent-based modules such as a sensory module, a dialogue module, and an expert system. The dialogue agent has a role of interfacing with another machine for cooperation. To design the dialogue agent module in M2M environment, FIPA-OS and ping agent based on FIPA-OS are analyzed in this study. Through this, it is expected that the dialogue agent module can be more efficiently designed and the knowledge-evolution based machine tools can be hereafter more easily implemented.
Quasar luminosity function (QLF) shows the active galactic nucleus (AGN) demography as a result of the combination of the growth and the evolution of black holes, galaxies, and dark matter halos along the cosmic time. The recent wide and deep surveys have improved the census of high-redshift quasars, making it possible to construct reliable ultraviolet (UV) QLFs at 2 < z < 6 down to M1450 = -23 mag. By parameterizing these up-to-date observed UV QLFs that are the most extensive in both luminosity and survey area coverage at a given redshift, we show that the UV QLF has a universal shape, and their evolution can be approximated by a pure density evolution (PDE). In order to explain the observed QLF, we construct a model QLF employing the halo mass function, a number of empirical scaling relations, and the Eddington ratio distribution. We also include the outshining of AGN over its host galaxy, which made it possible to reproduce a moderately flat shape of the faint end of the observed QLF (slope of ~ -1.1). This model successfully explains the observed PDE behavior of UV QLF at z > 2, meaning that the QLF evolution at high redshift can be understood under the framework of halo mass function evolution. The importance of the outshining effect in our model also implies that there could be a hidden population of faint AGNs (M1450 > -24 mag), which are buried under their host galaxy light.
Although rational genetic engineering is nowadays the favored method for microbial strain improvement, building up mutant libraries based on directed evolution for improvement is still in many cases the better option. In this regard, the demand for precise and efficient screening methods for mutants with high performance has stimulated the development of biosensor-based high-throughput screening strategies. Genetically encoded biosensors provide powerful tools to couple the desired phenotype to a detectable signal, such as fluorescence and growth rate. Herein, we review recent advances in engineering several classes of biosensors and their applications in directed evolution. Furthermore, we compare and discuss the screening advantages and limitations of two-component biosensors, transcription-factor-based biosensors, and RNA-based biosensors. Engineering these biosensors has focused mainly on modifying the expression level or structure of the biosensor components to optimize the dynamic range, specificity, and detection range. Finally, the applications of biosensors in the evolution of proteins, metabolic pathways, and genome-scale metabolic networks are described. This review provides potential guidance in the design of biosensors and their applications in improving the bioproduction of microbial cell factories through directed evolution.
In this paper, a unified time-dependent constitutive model of Darcy flow and non-Darcy flow is proposed. The influencing factors of flow velocity are discussed, which demonstrates that permeability coefficient is the most significant factor. Based on this, the dynamic evolution characteristics of water inrush during tunneling through fault fracture zone is analyzed under the constant permeability coefficient condition (CPCC). It indicates that the curves of flow velocity and hydrostatic pressure can be divided into typical three stages: approximate high-velocity zone inside the fault fracture zone, velocity-rising zone near the tunnel excavation face and attenuation-low velocity zone in the tunnel. Furthermore, given the variation of permeability coefficient of the fault fracture zone with depth and time, the dynamic evolution of water flow in the fault fracture zone under the variable permeability coefficient condition (VPCC) is also studied. The results show that the time-related factor (α) affects the dynamic evolution distribution of flow velocity with time, the depth-related factor (A) is the key factor to the dynamic evolution of hydrostatic pressure.

The understanding of real-world application of scientific knowledge such as the evolutionary theory has been emphasized in science curriculum. Despite this, many students and biology educators misunderstand the use and practical application of the evolution theory. The purpose of this study is to explore variables related to the understanding of practical application of evolution. Methodologically, we employed large-scale survey that examined three independent variables (major, academic year, and religion) and five dependent variables (understanding of practical application of evolution, knowledge of, interest in, and acceptance of evolution, and religiosity). Two hundred and thirty three biology pre-service teachers and 405 non-biology pre-service teachers participated in the survey. The results demonstrate that the biology teacher education program does not help in increasing the understanding of the practical application of evolution. Rather, the understanding of practical application of evolution was associated with their religion. In addition, the understanding of the practical application of evolution was associated with the acceptance of and interest in evolution. The results of this study inform the development of new biology teacher education programs to improve their understanding of practical application of the evolution theory. We also suggest further areas of research for other scientific concepts that could be used to gauge teachers' understanding of the practical application of scientific knowledge.
