Numerical Study of Combustion Characteristics in CNG DI Engine using Gaseous Sphere Injection Model (기체구 분사 모델을 이용한 CNG DI 엔진의 연소특성 수치해석)

  • This paper describes numerical study of combustion characteristics in CNG(compressed natural gas) DI(direct injection) engine using gaseous sphere injection model. Simulations were conducted using KIVA-3V Release 2 code. Gaseous sphere injection model, which is modified model of liquid fuel injection, was used to simulate the CNG direct injection. Until now, a very fine mesh smaller than the injector nozzle has been required to resolve the gas-jet inflow boundary. However, the gaseous sphere injection model simulates gaseous fuel injection using a coarse mesh. This model injects gaseous spheres as in liquid fuel injection and the gaseous spheres evaporate together without the latent heat of evaporation. Therefore, it does not require a very fine mesh and reduce calculation time. Combustion simulation were performed under various injection timings and injection pressures.

  • In recent years, the study about the high efficiency and low fuel consumption of the internal conbustion engine has been mainly proceeding. To achieve these goals, the improvement of combustion process in Sl engine and the use of substitute energy are suggested. When the methanol blend fuel Is used, the combustion rate of the initial ignition is diminishing by high latent evaporation of methanol. But it attracts the attention because of the high octane number, and lean mixture peculiarity. Considering these facts, the gasoline-methanol blend fuel In engine operation has been used to compare and analyze the pressure development, rate of heat release, mass burned fraction, and combustion process. The results of experiment show the power increase, lean combustion and low harmful component of emission.

Open-Loop Responses of Droplet Vaporization to Linear Normal Acoustic Modes

  • In order for studying pressure-coupled dynamic responses of droplet vaporization, open-loop experiment of an isolated droplet vaporization exposed to pressure perturbations in stagnant gaseous environment is numerically conducted, Governing equations are solved for flow parameters at gas and liquid phases separately and thermodynamic parameters at the interfacial boundary are matched for problem closure. For high-pressure effects, vapor-liquid interfacial thermodynamics is rigorously treated. A series of parametric calculations in terms of mean pressure level and wave frequencies are carried out employing a n-pentane droplet in stagnant gaseous nitrogen. Results show that wave instability in view of pressure-coupled vaporization response seems more susceptible at higher pressures and higher wave frequencies. Mass evaporation rate responding to pressure waves is amplified with increase in pressure due to substantial reduction in latent heat of vaporization. Augmentation of perturbation frequency also enhances amplification due to the reduction of phase differences between pressure perturbation and surface temperature fluctuation.

  • The present study shows some results of developing evaporative heat exchangers with mini-channels. Heat exchangers with three different water paths were manufactured and tested to compare performances of cooling and pressure drop. Among the three types of heat exchangers, Type 2 with full-etching was proved to be the best in the cooling performances for considered operating conditions, and thus it is recommended to adopt Type 2 for its simplicity of production and outstanding performance. However, Type 1 was shown to be better when it is operated at a high air inlet temperature condition. The developed evaporative heat exchanger will be installed in Environmental Control Systems(ECSs) for aerial vehicles, and it can be used effectively in case an ECS is not only limited in its weight and volume but also required to absorb heats without supplying water (or a coolant) for a certain period of time.

  • Research into natural refrigerants that use CO2, instead of chlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons, has increased due to the environmental problems caused by ozone depletion. CO2 refrigerants are more environmentally friendly than conventional refrigerants because they have better latent heat of evaporation and heat transfer efficiency properties. However, they have very low critical temperatures and require high design pressures; therefore, pressure control valves, which reduce the pressure of the CO2 refrigerant to a safe level and apply it to the refrigerant air conditioning system, are necessary to secure stability against high pressure. In the present study, we evaluated the flow characteristics and valve performance of the pressure control valve using a CO2 refrigerant by measuring the pressure, velocity, and flow coefficient. In addition, we examined the applied forces caused by the internal pressure from the highly pressurized CO2 refrigerant and required thrust characteristics.

  • We can expect reduction of the sunlight absorption quantity to a structure and an earth surface, a decline of the surface temperature and a decline of the heat transport volume in what there is a method I give the sunlight reflectance in the aspect to the surface of the building by painting sunlight high reflectance paint, and to reduce the sunlight absorption quantity to a structure and an earth surface and does so, and, in addition, a method high water retentivity of tree planting and the road surface of the city space uses evaporation latent heat of the water by making it, and to restrain a rise in temperature is thought about. and It is thought that I reduce the sunlight absorption quantity to not only the structure but also other structures and attention gathers to the reflexive reflector reflecting in the direction again and it is wide as a marker of a board and the clothing of the traffic sign and is used the incidence energy from a source of light for this reflexive reflector now by there is it and devises surface structure again, and controlling reflection directivity for the sunlight for the purpose of raising night visibility.

Prediction of Diesel Fuel Spray Characteristics in Compression Ignition Engine Cylinder by Intake Humidification (흡기 가습에 의한 압축 착화엔진 실린더 내 디젤 연료 분무 특성 예측)

  • The objective of this study is to predict numerically the effect of intake humidification on the injected diesel fuel spray characteristics in a compression ignition engine. In this work, Wave model and Ducowicz model were applied as the break-up model and evaporation model, respectively. The amount of water vapor for the humidification was changed from 0% to 30% of injected fuel mass. The number of applied meshes was generated from 49,000 to 110,000. At the same time, the results of this work were compared in terms of spray tip penetration, SMD and equivalence ratio distributions. It was found that the cylinder temperature and cylinder pressure were decreased with increasing water vapor mass by vaporization latent heat and specific heat, however, the difference was very small. So, the spray tip penetration was not different by water vapor mass. Also, higher equivalence ratio distributions were observed with increasing water vapor mass by the improvement of fuel atomization.

  • When Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is vaporized into NG for industrial and household usage, tremendous cold energy was transferred from LNG to seawater during phase-changing process. This heat exchanger loop is not only a waste of huge cold energy, but will cause thermal pollution to the coastal fishery area also when cold water was re-injected into the sea. In this study, an innovation design has been performed to reclaim the cold energy for -35 to $62^{\circ}C$ refrigerated warehouse. Conventionally, this was done by installing mechanical refrigeration systems, necessitating tremendous electrical power to drive temperature. A closed loop LNG heat exchangers in series was designed to replace the mechanical or vapor-compression refrigeration cycle by process simulator. The process simulation software of PRO II with provision has been used to simulate this process for various conditions, what to effect on cold energy and used energy for re-liquefaction and evaporation process. In addition, through analysis the effect of the change of LNG supply pressure on sensible and latent heat, optimum operational conditions was suggested for LNG cold energy warehouse.

Effects of Storage Gas Concentrations on the Transpiration Rate of Fuji Apple during CA Storage (CA저장 기체조성에 따른 사과 Fuji의 증산속도)

  • A transpiration model was selected and tested experimentally to predict transpiration into of Fuji apple stored in a normal air and controlled atmospheres (l∼3% O$_2$+ l∼3% CO$_2$) at 0$\^{C}$ and 98% RH for 6weeks. CA storage decreased the respiration rate of Fuji apple by 50% when compared with normal air storage. The transpiration rates of apple showed 50∼70% higher in normal air storage than those in CA storage and were decreased by increasing CO$_2$concentration under same concentration of O$_2$. The transpiration rates estimated by the selected model were in good agreement with experimental data for Fuji apples under controlled atmosphere conditions and normal air. When the respiratory heat generation rate u of Fuji apple increased with storage conditions, the evaporating surface temperature and transpiration rate also increased. But since some portion of respiratory heat was used as latent heat in the evaporating surface, the change of u value had a little effect on the determination of the evaporation temperature and the transpiration rate.

Examination of Factors Influencing Urban Higher Temperature using E-GIS DB (E-GIS DB를 활용한 도시 고온화 영향인자 검토)

  • In this study, we performed urrban climate simulation how both the factor of environmental land and artificial factors influence on the formation of urban temperature. With deducing quantitative data, this study could get more accurate results of the urban temperature using urban climate simulation system. In the case of natural land cover, it appeared that there are effects on the lowering temperature and the lower temperature rate appeared in the water land cover on the whole. This is considered as temperature in water land was low because of the characteristics of water land having evaporation latent heat was high and convective sensible heat was low. In case of building which has building coverage ratio, 5% with 10 floors and building coverage ratio, 15 % with 6 floors, it appears that the temperature in the water land is $33.6^{\circ}C$. In case of building coverage ratio 5%, temperature dropped when buildings has more than 4 stories. This is regarded as the size of building is bigger, the temperature dropped in relatively because of the fluctuation of the rate of solar heat from the land. At the present time, the urban temperature are higher because of various artificial factors in the city. With these results, this study supposed to be a basies of the future studies for considering both the composition of building coverate ratio and floor plan.
