Fissured rock and soft ground always suggest, problems in the construction of the underground space. The stress release of the weak underground material by opening the underground space with a soft ground, fissures and joints can lead to the failure of the opening. Grouting of the weak rock and the soft ground, which is a process of injecting some bonding agents into the soft ground, is one of the measures to reinforce the soft ground and to prohibit the failure of the underground construction due to the stress release. The proper installation of the grouting is essential to ensuring the safety of the tunneling operation, so that the evaluation of the grouting performance is very significant. The general procedure of evaluating the grouting is coring the grouted section and measuring the compression strength of the core. However, sometimes when the grouted section is at the crown of the tunnel and the grouting is installed at a wide section, the coring is not good enough. This study is oriented to propose a new and a non-destructive procedure of evaluating the grouting performance. The proposed method is based on the wave propagation of elastic waves, and evaluates the shear stiffness of the ground and investigates the anomalies such as voids and cracks. The SASW ( Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves) method is one of the candidate s to make the inspection of the pouting performance, and is adopted in this study. The practical grouting activity was monitored by SASW method, and the proposed method was applied to the inspection of the grouting performance to check the verification of the proposed method.
In this study, a new approach using electrical resistivity measurement was proposed to detect grout penetration and to evaluate the grouting performance for such as waterproof efficiency in single rock fracture. For this purpose, an electrical resistivity monitoring system was designed to collect multi-channel data in real time. This was applied to a system for grout injection/penetration using a transparent fracture replica with various aperture sizes and water-cement mix ratio. The electrical resistivity was measured under various grout penetration conditions in real time, which results were directly compared to the visual observation images of grout penetration/distribution. Moreover, the grouting success status after the curing process was evaluated by measuring the electrical resistivity in relation to changes in frequency in fracture cells where grout injection and penetration were completed. Consequently, it was determined that the electrical resistivity monitoring system could be applied effectively to the detection of successful penetration of grouting into a target area and to actual field evaluation of the grouting performance and long-term stability of underground rock structures.
In order to develop urban underground spaces, even microcracks should be reinforced. In this paper, the grouting injection performance for microcracks was investigated considering the viscosity and particle size of the grouting materials, injection pressure, and crack width. There are two types of typical grouting materials used for filling micro-cracks. One is a chemical liquid grouting material which is a solution type and the other is a cementitious grouting material which is a suspension type. The injection performance of the grouting materials for microcracks is generally influenced by the viscosity, and the injection performance of the cementitious grouting material is additionally affected by the particle size. From laboratory tests, the viscosity was calculated inversely to provide a suitable viscosity measurement method for each grouting material. The groutability ratio based on the relationship between the crack width and the particle size was evaluated to estimate the grouting feasibility of the cementitous grouting material through microcracks.

In order to design coaxial-type Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEXs) efficiently, the effect of components (i.e, heat exchange pipe and grouting material) on the thermal performance of coaxial-type GHEXs should be identified in advance. In this paper, three coaxial-type GHEXs with different configurations were constructed in a test bed. Then, the effect of heat exchange pipes and grouting materials on the thermal performance of coaxial-type GHEXs was investigated by performing in-situ thermal response tests (TRTs) and thermal performance tests (TPTs). In the TRTs, the effective thermal conductivities of the coaxial-type GHEXs with concrete grouting and STS pipes were improved by 6.15 and 22.7%, respectively compared to those of bentonite grouting and HDPE pipes. Additionally, in the TPTs, the use of concrete grouting and STS pipes in the coaxial-type GHEXs enhanced the in-situ thermal performance by 15 and 33.8%, respectively.

The grout-effect evaluation of the ground reinforcement technique, which has been widely applied to civil engineering and construction fields, is not established for the guidelines of choosing the efficient evaluation method, and in fact the expects have little effort to determine the reinforcement effect quantitively. This paper presents some results a field test performance of FRP pressure grouting method at a collapsed slope were carried out to verify the improving effect.

Performing a series of in-situ thermal response tests, the effective thermal conductivity of six vertical closed-loop ground heat exchangers was experimentally evaluated and compared each other, which were constructed in a test bed in Wonju. To compare thermal efficiency of the ground heat exchangers in field, the six boreholes were constructed with different construction conditions: grouting materials (cement vs. bentonite), different additives (silica sand vs. graphite) and the shape of pipe-sections (general U-loop type vs. 3 pipe-type). From the test results, it can be concluded that cement grouting has a higher effective thermal conductivity than that of bentonite grouting, and the efficiency of graphite better performs over silica sand as a thermally-enhancing addictive. In addition, a new 3 pipe-type heat exchanger provides less thermal interference between the inlet and outlet pipe than the conventional U-loop type heat exchanger, which results in superior thermal performance.
This paper discusses a series of experiments including material improvement in order to ensure quality of grouting for the post-tensioned structure. In prestressed concrete, grouting refers to the construction procedure of filling empty space of duct enclosing with strands using cementitious material, To date, adequate quality control of the grouting has not been established in Korea because the relationship between the grouting and durability of post-tensioned structure is not well-recognized. The Korean standard does not consider the important material characteristic, wick effect, which is caused by strands in the ducts and current standard testing method unlikely quantify reasonable material segregation. As a result, the grout material, which meets the current material standards, may exhibit excessive bleeding water or shrinkage during construction. In this study, international codes and standards related to grouting were surveyed. The ratio of constituents and novel admixtures were suggested to meet equivalently with these standards. Performance of this enhanced grout was compared to common domestic grout using the international standard testing method. A series of mock-up specimens considering geometry of PC beam was constructed and grout flow pattern was observed as the grout was injected. It was observed that the grouting performance was highly influenced by material properties and filling characteristic can be varied depending on geometry of ducts.
The objective of this study is to develope ground heat exchanger using PHC file used to building foundation, and it's element technology. So we construct PHC ground heat exchanger in the apartment house's PHC foundation and evaluate it's performance. First, we study PHC file type, heat exchanger pipe, grouting materials, and present apartment house's foundation condition for PHC ground heat exchanger and design it's proto type. Second according to grouting materials, we estimate construction convenience, and it's performance. Construction convenience side, PB 22 A pipe and sand grouting with moisture was good for PHC ground heat exchanger elements. Experiment result is very superior. Thermal conductivity B, C type(sand, gravel) was respectively 32.4 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 36.5 W/m$^{\circ}C$, D(concrete) Type 27.8 W/m$^{\circ}C$, E(bentonite) Type 19.6 W/m$^{\circ}C$. Thermal interference for 4 day experiment period in 3.8 m was very small. So PHC file is good for using ground heat exchanger.
Injection grouting is one of the most common ground improvement practice to increase the strength and reduce the hydraulic conductivity of soils. Owing to the environmental concerns of conventional grout materials, such as cement-based or silicate-based materials, bio-inspired biogeotechnical approaches are considered to be new sustainable and environmentally friendly ground improvement methods. Biopolymers, which are excretory products from living organisms, have been shown to significantly reduce the hydraulic conductivity via pore-clogging and increase the strength of soils. To study the practical application of biopolymers for seepage and ground water control, in this study, we explored the injection capabilities of biopolymer-based grout materials in both linear aperture and particulate media (i.e., sand and glassbeads) considering different injection pressures, biopolymer concentrations, and flow channel geometries. The hydraulic conductivity control of a biopolymer-based grout material was evaluated after injection into sandy soil under confined boundary conditions. The results showed that the performance of xanthan gum injection was mainly affected by the injection pressure and pore geometry (e.g., porosity) inside the soil. Additionally, with an increase in the xanthan gum concentration, the injection efficiency diminished while the hydraulic conductivity reduction efficiency enhanced significantly. The results of this study provide the potential capabilities of injection grouting to be performed with biopolymer-based materials for field application.
This study aimed to develop high-efficiency grouting techniques under deep-depth conditions by experimentally verifying the applicability of various injection materials. Particle size analysis and injection model experiments were conducted with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Micro Cement (MC) to evaluate the injection performance of each material. Using Barton's Cubic Network theory, the rock fracture spacing was calculated for domestic deep-depth standards, specifically below 40 meters underground. The analysis of particle size passability under selected conditions showed that MC could pass through the rock fracture gaps, while OPC could not. According to the results of the injection model experiments using experimental devices and area calculation software, OPC failed in injection due to its larger particle size, whereas MC was capable of injection even under high-viscosity conditions. Based on these findings, the study quantitatively and visually derived the applicability of grouting materials under deep-depth conditions, and high-viscosity MC material is expected to be effective for waterproofing enhancement in deep-depth rock fracture surfaces.
