As a new structural system, the diagrid system resists both gravity and lateral loads with diagonal columns. In current seismic design provisions, however, the response modification factor for a new structural system is not provided yet. ATC-63 provides a new methodology for defining various seismic performance factors, including the response modification factor. ATC-63 includes the collapse margin ratio in modifying the response modification factor, which can vary with many structural systems. In this paper, a non-linear static analysis and a dynamic analysis were conducted for four different diagrid models with 4-to 36-story heights. From these analyses, the response modification factor of the diagrid system was evaluated.
Cassava peelings waste, which is both a waste and pollutant, was chemically modified using mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) and used to adsorb $Cu^{2+}\;and\;Cd^{2+}$ from aqueous solution over a wide range of reaction conditions at $30^{\circ}C$. Acid modification produced a larger surface area, which significantly enhanced the metal ion binding capacity of the biomass. An adsorption model based on the $Cu^{2+}/Cd^{2+}$ adsorption differences was developed to predict the competition of the two metal ions towards binding sites for a mixed metal ion system. The phytosorption process was examined in terms of Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. The models indicate that the cassava waste biomass had a greater phytosorption capacity, higher affinity and greater sorption intensity for $Cu^{2+}\;than\;Cd^{2+}$. According to the evaluation using Langmuir equation, the monolayer binding capacity obtained was 127.3 mg/g $Cu^{2+}$ and 119.6 mg/g $Cd^{2+}$. The kinetic studies showed that the phytosorption rates could be described better by a pseudo-second order process and the rate coefficients was determined to be $2.04{\times}10^{-3}\;min^{-1}\;and\;1.98{\times}10^{-3}\;min^{-1}\;for\;Cu^{2+}\;and\;Cd^{2+}$ respectively. The results from these studies indicated that acid treated cassava waste biomass could be an efficient sorbent for the removal of toxic and valuable metals from industrial effluents.
In this study, pneumonia identification networks with the small number of layers were constructed by using chest X-ray images. The networks had similar trainable-parameters, and the performance of the trained models was quantitatively evaluated with the modification of the network architectures. A total of 6 networks were constructed: convolutional neural network (CNN), VGGNet, GoogleNet, residual network with identity blocks, ResNet with bottleneck blocks and ResNet with identity and bottleneck blocks. Trainable parameters for the 6 networks were set in a range of 273,921-294,817 by adjusting the output channels of convolution layers. The network training was implemented with binary cross entropy (BCE) loss function, sigmoid activation function, adaptive moment estimation (Adam) optimizer and 100 epochs. The performance of the trained models was evaluated in terms of training time, accuracy, precision, recall, specificity and F1-score. The results showed that the trained models with the small number of layers precisely detect pneumonia from chest X-ray images. In particular, the overall quantitative performance of the trained models based on the ResNets was above 0.9, and the performance levels were similar or superior to those based on the CNN, VGGNet and GoogleNet. Also, the residual blocks affected the performance of the trained models based on the ResNets. Therefore, in this study, we demonstrated that the object detection networks with the small number of layers are suitable for detecting pneumonia using chest X-ray images. And, the trained models based on the ResNets can be optimized by applying appropriate residual-blocks.

The design and manufacture of injection molded polymeric parts with desired properties is a costly process dominated by empiricism including repeated modification of actual tooling. This paper presents and expert design evaluation system which can predict the mechanical performance of a molded product and diagnose the design before the actual mold is machined. The knowledge-based system synergistically combines a rule-based expert system with CAE programs. An iterative boundary pressure reflection method(IBPR) is developed to automate the cavity filling simulation program and to predict thermo-mechanical properties of a molded part precisely. Mathematical models of weldline and frozen-in molecular orientation are established to determine the spatial variation of microstructural anisotropies of a molded part from the result of cavity filling simulation. The strength ellipse is devised as and index which represents th spatial distribution of the microstructural anisotropies of a molded part, Heuristic knowledge of injection molding, flow simulation, and mechanical performance prediction is formalized as rules of an expert consultation system. The expert system interprets the analytical results of the process simulation, predicts the performance, evaluates the design and generates recommendations for optimal design alternative.

This study presents the structural model modification based on the modal data such as natural frequencies and mode shapes. Preliminary structural model can be obtained using design drawings and field measurement, and therefore the deteriorated stiffness of a structure and the effect of the boundary conditions are difficult to be evaluated in preliminary analysis model, and the preliminary model can be modified using structural response data including static and/or dynamic characteristics. In this study, the structural model is modified based on the structural modal data using genetic algorithm. Modal testing were carried out for Imjin River Bridge and Hangjoo Bridge, the modal properties were estimated using modal identification techniques, and finally the structural models were updated using genetic algorithm. The modified structural model could give us more reliable structural analysis results and therefore those can be used for structural performance evaluation such as load carrying capacity and seismic capacity.
Utilization of fiber beam-column element has gained considerable attention in recent years due mainly to its ability to model distributed plasticity over the length of the element through a number of integration points. However, the relatively high sensitivity of the method to modeling parameters as well as material behavior models can pose a significant challenge. Residual drift is one of the seismic demands which is highly sensitive to modeling parameters and material behavior models. Permanent deformations play a prominent role in the post-earthquake evaluation of serviceability of bridges affected by a near-fault ground shaking. In this research, the influence of distributed plasticity modeling parameters using both force-based and displacement-based fiber elements in the prediction of internal forces obtained from the nonlinear static analysis is studied. Having chosen suitable type and size of elements and number of integration points, the authors take the next step by investigating the influence of material behavioral model employed for the prediction of permanent deformations in the nonlinear dynamic analysis. The result shows that the choice of element type and size, number of integration points, modification of cyclic concrete behavior model and reloading strain of concrete significantly influence the fidelity of fiber element method for the prediction of permanent deformations.
Hydraulic modeling is widely used to simulate wastewater flow. The simulated models are used to prevent flood and many other problems associated with wastewater flow in planning or rehabilitating sewer systems. In this study, MAKESW (An engineer, South Korea), MOUSE (DHI, Denmark), and SWMM (XPSoftware, USA) are used to for hydraulic modeling of wastewater in C-city, South Korea and E-city, Iraq. These modeling tools produced different results. SWMM comparably overpredicted runoff and peak flow. In using SWMM, use of accurate data with a high confidential level, detail examination over the target basin surface, and the careful selection of a runoff model, which describes Korea's unique hydraulic characteristics are recommended. Modification of existing models through the optimization of variables cannot be achieved at this moment. Setting up an integrated modeling environment is considered to be essential to utilize modeling and further apply the results for various projects. Standardization of GIS database, the criteria for and the scope of model application, and database management systems need to be prepared to expand modeling application.

In this paper Vehicle driving simulator have been used in the development and modification of models. A real-time simulation system and washout algorithm for an excavator have been developed for a driving simulator with six degrees of freedom. An interesting question, "how the 6 DOF Driving Simulator can be controlled optimally for the various tasks?" is not easy to be answered. This paper presents the hardware and software developed for a driving simulator of construction vehicle. A simulator can reduce cost and time a variety of driving simulations in the laboratory. Using its 6 DOF Simulator can move in various modes, and perform dexterous tasks. Driving simulators have begun to proliferate in the automotive industry and the associated research community. This effort involves the real-time dynamic of wheel-type excavator the design and manufacturing of the Stewart platform an integrated control system of the platform and three-dimensional graphic modeling of the driving environments.

Analysis for structures composed of materials containing regularly spaced in-homogeneities is usually executed by using averaged material properties. In order to evaluate the effective properties, a unit cell is defined and loaded somehow, and its response is investigated. The imposed loading, however, should accord to the status of unit cells immersed in the macroscopic structure to secure the accuracy of the properties. In this study, mathematical description for the periodicity of the displacement field is derived and its direct implementation into FE models of unit cell is attempted. Conventional finite element code needs no modification, and only the boundary of unit cell should be constrained in a way that the periodicity is preserved. The proposed method is applicable to skew arrayed in-homogeneity problems. Homogenized in-plane elastic properties are evaluated for a few representative cases and the accuracy is examined.
Impact pathway analysis(IPA) is a bottom-up approach to estimates health and environmental risks from emissions of classical pollutants (eg. $PM_{10}$, $SO_2$, $NO_x$ and CO). The model starts from the emission rates of facility, calculates the yearly mean concentrations of pollutants at the ground level using atmospheric dispersion models. After this, proper epidemiological exposure-response functions are applied to determine the impact on the receptors. Finally the methodology can monetise the calculated physical impact on the basis of selected economic evaluation. The aim of this study is to evaluate an external cost of virtual point source in Suwon area using IPA. The results shows minor modification of local input data can make it possible to apply the model to Suwon area.
