페치니법에 의한 $Y_{2-x}Gd_xO_3:Eu$ 형광체의 제조와 발광 특성 (Preparation and Luminescence Properties of $Y_{2-x}Gd_xO_3:Eu$ Phosphors by Pechini Method)

  • $Y_{2-x}Gd_xO_3:Eu$, phosphors for plasma display panel(PDP), were prepared by Pechini method which use yttriun chloride, gadolinium chloride, and europium oxide as starting materials. This method is a different way to the synthesis of europium(Eu)-doped phosphors, and it consists of the formation of a polymeric resin obtained by polyesterification between metal chelate compounds and a polyfunctional alcohol. This needs lower temperature than solid-state synthetic method. The prepared $Y_{2-x}Gd_xO_3:Eu$ phosphor particles had spherical shape and coherence. The luminescence intensity of $Y_{2-x}Gd_xO_3:Eu$ phosphor particles increased according to the increase of gadolinium(Gd) content(to 0.8mol%), and $Y_{1.2}Gd_{0.8}O_3:Eu$ phosphors had the highest luminescence intensity under vacuum ultra violet(VUV) excitation. The optimum concentration of Eu in the phosphor and optimum calcination temperature was 3wt% and $1100^{\circ}C$. The prepared phosphors were consist of particle, and its size was between 100nm and 150nm. Among the different polyfunctional alcohols, diethylene glycol(DEG) improved the luminescence intensities of phosphors more than other additives. The Pechini method proved that it is demonstrated to be suitable for the synthesis of phosphors used in PDP.

Eu-PEG로 구성된 상변환 발광재료의 합성 및 물성에 대한 연구 (Study of Synthesis and Property of Eu-PEG Phase Change Luminescent Materials)

  • A novel TPC-PEG-TPC with active end-groups was obtained from the end-groups of polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified by terephthaloyl chloride (TPC). These active end-groups can link up with a rare earth ion, which is a luminescent center of a rare earth fluorescent complex. Complexes of Eu-PEG with novel ligands (TPC-PEG-PTC) were synthesized by the coordination of the active reactant (as the first ligand) and phenanthroline (as the second ligand) with $Eu^{3+}$.IR, $^1H$-NMR, element analysis, DSC, WAXD, fluorescent spectroscopy, TGA, and SEM were used to characterize the structure and properties of these complexes. The results showed that this type of complex is a heat storage material with the phase change character of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and the luminescent properties of europium. There was no thermal decomposition of the complex of Eu-PEG until $300^{\circ}C$. SEM showed that the complex of Eu-PEG can be dispersed in PE.

  • Samples of yttrium oxide doped with trivalent europium have been prepared by ceramic techniques, under different synthesis conditions; barium chloride ($BaCl_2$) and sodium tetraborate ($Na_2B_4O_7$) were tested as flux. The improvement of luminescence properties in dependence on substitution of $Eu^{3+}$ for $Y^{3+}$ in the host lattice, under electron and UV excitations is demonstrated The obtained results are discussed with respect to the employed processing method.

  • 산화물 핵연료의 리튬환원공정에서 생성되는 $Li_2O$와 희토류원소 산화물($RE_2O_3$)의 화학적 반응을 밝혔다. 스칸듐, 이트륨, 프라세오디뮴, 네오디뮴, 사마륨, 유러퓸, 가돌리늄, 이테르븀 및 루테튬의 산화물은 각각 어떤 $Li_2O$의 임계농도 이상에서 $Li_2O$와 반응하여 복합산화물($LiREO_2$)을 형성하고, 이들 산화물이 복합산화물을 형성하는 각각의 $Li_2O$ 임계농도는 0.1 wt%, 1.9 wt%, 5.3 wt%, 5.0 wt%, 3.0 wt%, 3.9 wt%, 2.9 wt%, 2.6 wt% 및 0.3 wt%로 나타났다. $CeO_2$ 및 란타늄 산화물은 $Li_2O$와 반응하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 실험에서 얻은 이들 희토류원소 복합산화물의 LiCl 용융염에 대한 용해도는 매우 작았다.

Elucidation of Electrode Reaction of EuCl3 in LiCl-KCl Eutectic Melts through CV Curve Analysis

  • The electrode reaction of $Eu^{3+}$ in a LiCl-KCl eutectic melt has been re-examined using cyclic voltammetry (CV). In this work, for the first time, the kinetic details of a $Eu^{3+}/Eu^{2+}$ redox system have been completely elucidated, along with the thermodynamic property, through a curve fitting applied to experimental CV data, which were obtained in a wide scan rate range of 0.5 to 10 V/s. The simulated results showed an excellent fit to all experimental CV data simultaneously, even though the curve fittings were performed within a large dynamic range of initial transfer coefficient values, formal potentials, and standard rate constants. As a result, a proper formal potential, transfer coefficient, and standard rate constant for the $Eu^{3+}/Eu^{2+}$ redox system were successfully extracted using the CV curve fitting.
