  • In this paper, a three-dimensional Euler aeroelastic analysis program is developed with a second-order staggered algorithm to reduce the lagging errors between the fluid and structural solvers. In the unsteady aerodynamic analysis, a dual-time stepping method based on the diagonalized-ADI algorithm is adopted to improve the time accuracy and a parallelized multi-grid method is used to save the computing time. The aeroelastic analyses of AGARD 445.6 wing model have been performed to verify the Euler aeroelastic analysis code. The analysis results are compared with the experimental data and other computational results. The results show comparatively good correlation when they are compared with other references.

  • Topology began to be studied relatively later than the other branches of mathematics, such as geometry, algebra and analysis. Leonhard Euler is generally considered to be the founder of topology. In this paper we first investigate the beginning of topology and its development and then study Euler's life and his achievements in mathematics.

  • A novel method for 3-dimensional dynamic analysis of marine slender structure gas been developed by using Euler parameters. The Euler parameter rotation, which is being widely used in aerospace vehicle dynamics and multi-body dynamics, has been applied to elastic structure analysis. Large deformation of flexible slender structures is described by means of Euler parameters. Euler parameter method is implemented effectively in incremental-iterative algorithm for 3D dynamic analysis. The normalization constraint of Euler parameters is efficiently satisfied by means of a sequential updating method.

  • This paper presents the dynamic analysis of a humanoid robot using Nastran that is one of FEM analysis program. Generally, computer program based on the Lagrange-Euler method or Newton-Euler method was used for dynamic analysis of a robot. The Lagrange-Euler method requires much calculation performance and it is also hard to apply to complex structure, and the Newton-Euler method limits accurate modeling and calculation for closed structure like a humanoid robot. In this paper, mechanical and structural data are obtained from the Nastran. It is possible for Nastran to make model similar to real system and can apply a physical properties and laws to model. So, accurate simulation is possible. From this result, accurate data is gained by Nastran. Furthermore, this method is shown to be a useful method that guarantees accuracy for trajectory planning.

  • This paper is concerned with the dynamic analysis of an underwater tracked vehicle, operating on extremely soft soil of the deep-seafloor. The vehicle is assumed as a rigid-body with 6-dof. The orientation of the vehicle is defined by four Euler parameters. To solve the motion equations of the vehicle, the Newmark numerical integrator is used in the incremental-iterative algorithm. The normalization constraint of Euler parameters is satisfied by using of a sequential updating method. The hydrodynamic force and moment are included in the tracked vehicle's dynamics. The hydrodynamic effects on the performance of tracked vehicles are investigated through numerical simulations.

  • Damage of reinforced concrete panel subjected to blast load using parallel and domain decomposition is analyzed. The numerical results are sensitive to the mesh size because blast waves are generated during the extremely short term. In order to investigate the effect of mesh size on the blast wave, the analysis results from various wave mesh size using AUTODYN, the explicit finite element analysis program, were compared with existing experimental results. The smaller mesh size was, the higher accuracy was. However, in this case, the analysis was inefficient. Therefore, in order to increase numerical efficiency, the parallel analysis using decomposed method based on Euler and Lagrangian description was performed. Finally, the decomposed method using both the structure domain based on Lagrange description and the blast wave domain based on Euler description was more efficient than the decomposed method using only the Lagrange mesh on structure domain.

  • This paper deals with the comparison of analysis methodologies by applying both Euler angle and quaternion to observe the kinematical behavior of the universal joint system used as an automotive drive-shaft. At first, conventional approaches are applied to predict a kinematical behavior by introducing only Euler angles into the universal joint system, but turns out to be lack in consistency and reliability of the analysis. Then to overcome this deficiency in numerical analysis a different methodology is proposed by using quaternion in this system. Its corresponding advantage is discussed in terms of kinetic energy, rotational velocity and rotational displacement. The application of quaternions in the numerical experiment is shown to be a more useful and valid way of establishing the ideal analytical model of the universal joint system.

  • In the present study, a numerical method has been developed for the calculation of the gust response of an airship using unstructured meshes. A preconditioning method is incorporated for accurate and efficient computations of the Euler equations at the low Mach number range. A simple sharp-edged gust is used as a gust model. The accuracy of the present method is demonstrated through comparisons with an exact line theory. The numerical results show that the variation of lift is relatively larger than that of moment. It is also shown that the static stability of the airship is enhanced with the use of control fins.

  • The convergence characteristics of preconditioned Euler equations were studied. A perturbation analysis was conducted to understand the behavior of the preconditioned Euler equations. Various speed flows in a two-dimensional channel with a 10% circular arc in the middle of the channel were calculated. Roe's FDS scheme was used for spatial discretization and the LU-SGS scheme was used for time integration. It is shown that the convergence characteristics of pressure and velocity were maintained regardless of the Mach numbers but that the convergence characteristics of temperature were strongly related to the Mach number and became worse as the Mach number decreased. The perturbation analysis well explained the trend of the convergence characteristics and showed that the convergence characteristics are strongly related with the behavior o( the Preconditioning matrix.
