  • In order to investigate the effect of irradiation by $^{60}Co-\gamma$rays as well as the e thermal treatment on the dielectric deterioration in ethylene propylene rubber, insulating material for electric cables used in atomic power plants, charging discharging current, residual built- up voltage and dielectric properties are measu discussed in this study. Variance in the characteristic of relative dielectric constant as a function of tem was observed in relatively high dose of irradiation. Since glass transition tem appeared at tens of degree Celsius below zero, the characteristic is attributed orientation polarization. Dielectric loss is generally increased, with increasing d irradiation in the characteristic of dielectric loss as a function of temperature, No d loss by thermal treatment was observed. Dielectric resistance decreases with increa of irradiation in the characteristic of charging current as a function of temperature be considered that dielectric resistance seems to be recovered by thermal treatm characteristic of discharging current as a function of time in the specimen less ir become similar to that of the unirradiated, when thermal treated. A peak is shown residual built- up voltage as a function of time, and the corresponding time of the shorten as increasing dose of irradiation. It is also observed that the corresponding the peak is lengthened by thermal treatment.

Cure Characteristics, Mechanical Properties, Abrasion Property and Thermal Properties of EVM/EPM Blends Containing Flame Retardants

  • The curing behavior, mechanical properties, hot-air aging resistance, abrasion properties,thermal properties, etc., of EVM/EPM/APP (ammonium polyphosphate)/DPER (dipentaerythritol)/EG (expandable graphite) and EVM/EPM/ATH (aluminium trihydroxide) flame retarding systems in ethylene vinyl acetate rubber (EVM) blends with EPM (ethylene propylene rubber) were sequentially examined. For both flame retarding systems, the torque values increased with the content of EPM rubber and with the vulcanization time. As the content of EPM rubber increased, the scorch time became shorter, whereas the optimum cure time followed an increasing trend. For the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flameretarding system, as the content of EPM rubber increased, the hardness did not change,whereas the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased. A hot-air aging resistance test at $150^{\circ}C$ showed that the heat resistance decreased with the EPM content regardless of the kinds and contents of flame retardants. As the EPM content increased, the abrasion rate became higher and the abrasion resistance of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding systems exceeded that of the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding counterparts. In comparison with the EVM/EPM/ATH flame retarding systems, the thermal stability of the EVM/EPM/APP/DPER/EG flame retarding system showed an increasing tendency.

  • The structure and properties of blends of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer(EPDM) and polyolefin blends have been investigated. The rheology and tensile properties of the EPDM/HDPE(high density polyethylene), EPDM/PP(polypropylene) binary and EPDM/PP/HDPE ternary blends were studied along with morphological analyses. Those properties were affected by preferential interaction of EPDM on HDPE, compared to that of EPDM on PP, for the binary blends. The preferetial interaction may stem from the molecular characteristics of EPDM to possess more ethylene units than propylene units in the elastomer. The EPDM played a role as compatibilizer for HDPE and PP in the EPDM/PP/HDPE ternary blends.

  • The ethylene-propylene (EP) rubbers mixed with one to one ratio is used as an insulation material in the nuclear power plant. It was investigated the effect of the amount of reinforcing agent. moisture absorption and heat treatment on the Ethylene-Propylene(EP) rubbers. The level of degradation was measured by the amount of discharging and. charging currents. When $\gamma$ rays were radiated on the EP rubbers with more charging material, the amount of discharging and charging currents was depended on the amount of reinforcing agent It was verified that the discharging and charging currents irradiated by $\gamma$ rays were higher than those that was not irradiated.

  • 리튬 이온 전지에 사용되는 개스킷 재료는 내전해액성, 전기 절연성, 압축 영구 줄음률, 비오염성, 저온성이 요구된다. 개스킷 고무에 적용되는 가교조제의 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 리튬 이온 전지에 있어 대표적 용매인 propylene carbonate에서 용해도 지수의 차가 큰 ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)에 금속산화물인 가교조제의 함량을 조정하여 compound를 배합하였다. 이렇게 배합된 compound를 리튬 이온 전지의 작동환경을 고려하여 전해액에 대한 장기평가 및 압축 영구 줄음률, 저온성에 대한 평가를 실시하였다. 본 실험에서는 다양한 가교조제를 사용하여 가교조제에 따른 고무재료의 물리적 화학적 특성 및 리튬 이온 전지에의 영향에 대하여 검토하였다. 가교조제로 ZnO를 사용한 고무에서 1000 h까지의 공기 노화 시험 및 전해액의 대표 유기용매인 propylene carbonate 침적시험에 대해 안정적인 물성을 얻을 수 있었으나, 이온 용출성 평가에서는 $Zn^{2+}$가 용출되기 때문에 리튬 이온 전지용 개스킷에 적용되는 고무 배합에서는 ZnO 사용을 제한하여야 한다.

A Study on the Fatigue Property of Magneto-Rheological Elastomers

  • Fatigue properties of rubber are one of the most important characteristics in the rubber industry. In this study, the fatigue properties of MREs (magneto-rheological elastomers) based on NR (natural rubber), EPDM (ethylene-propylene diene monomer), and AEM (ethylene/acrylic elastomer) were investigated. For comparison, MREs with a Shore hardness of 60A were prepared. According to the relative results, the fatigue properties of EPDM MRE were the worst. Thus, we investigated methods to improve the fatigue properties of EPDM MRE by varying the carbon black content and curing systems of EPDM as the matrix of the MRE. Dynamic properties were measured using a fatigue tester and an RPA (rubber process analyzer), and the XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) was used to analyze the curing system of the EPDM matrix. According to the results, the Payne effect increased and the fatigue resistance decreased as the carbon black content increased. In case of the curing system, the CV (conventional vulcanization) system was superior to the EV (efficient vulcanization) system in terms of the fatigue resistance. This was because the number of flexible bonds in the case of the CV system was higher than that in the case of the EV system. However, the EV system showed excellent mechanical properties because it had many monosulfidic bonds with strong binding energy.

  • 내연기관의 냉각기 고무호스에 사용되는 EPDM 고무는 열과 기계적 하중을 받는 동시에 국부적으로 형성된 전기적 스트레스를 받아 복합적인 노화가 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 EPDM 고무의 전기화학적 복합노화 시험을 하고, 아레니우스 관계식을 이용하여 노화온도($60^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$)에 따른 가속수명 예측식을 구하였다. 수명에 영향을 미치는 인장변형률(5%, 10%)을 반영하여 예측식의 기울기($E_a/R$) 및 아레니우스 상수(C)를 고려한 수정된 수명예측 식을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 노화온도와 인장변형률에 영향을 받은 EPDM 고무의 수명을 예측하였고, 수정된 수명예측 시간이 실제 실험결과의 편차 범위 이내에서 일치함을 확인하였다.

유동가압성형(TPM)을 이용한 휴대용 유도무기용 연소관 조립체 제작공정연구 (A study on the manufacturing of motor case assembly for K-PSAM propulsion system by Trans. power molding(TPM) process)

  • 복합재료와 금속 튜브 사이의 좁고 긴 원통형 공간을 EPDM(Ethylene propylene dien ter polymer)으로 충전하는 연구를 수행하였다. 휴대용 유도무기의 추진기관을 개발하기 위하여 소형 연소관 조립체를 설계하고 제작하였다. 연소관 조립체는 연소관 금속튜브, 연소관 내열재, 그리고 연소관 단열재로 이루어져 있는데 연소관 내열재는 탄소/페놀릭을 사용하여 롤링 공법으로 제작하였으며 연소관 단열재는 EPDM을 사용하여 TPM 공법으로 제작하였다. EPDM의 조성 선정을 위하여 내열 삭마특성, 열분해특성 실험을 수행하였으며 흐름성, 접착성, 경도측정 등을 통하여 최종 조성을 결정하였다. 연소관 조립체를 제작하기 위한 EPDM 충전을 위하여 TPM 공법을 설계하고 금형과 치구를 제작하였다. 충전된 연소관 조립체는 비파괴검사를 통하여 접착, 기공 등을 검사하여 최종 선정되었다.

EPDM재질 CLIP고무제품의 유동해석을 이용한 최적 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Design for CLIP Rubber Product Made of EPDM Using Flow Analysis)

  • Many rubber products are used in industrial products such as various hoses, rubber belts and oil seals etc. Especially, more then 200 rubber parts are used in the automobile, but design technology of these is largely dependent on Held experiences. These methods brought about too much time and cost in the developing procedures. However, with the help of recent rapid development of non-liner computer analysis, we can develop new sound products at low cost. Therefore in this study, optimizations of design variables such as location and number of gate in order to develop CLIP rubber product made of EPDM were performed by CAE in which Cross-WLF equations are adopted. The validity of proposed variables is evaluated by comparison with real forming results.

고분자재료의 물성에 미치는 환경인자의 영향: 오일 및 오존반응시간 (Effect of Environmental Factors on the Properties of Polymeric Material : Oil and Ozone Reaction Time)

  • The purpose of this experiment is to prepare ethylene propylene diene terpolymer(EPDM)/ acrylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) blend which represents good environmental resistant properties including favorable oil and ozone resistance. With incorporation of EPDM, NBR and other ingredients, the rubber and chemical additives were mixed by mechanical method such as Banbury mixer and open 2-roll mill. Then rubber vulcanizates were manufactured by hot press and mechanical properties, oil and ozone resistance of the test specimens were measured. The oil resistance and ozone resistance of EPDM and NBR, respectively, is remarkably improved by blending EPDM with NBR. The optimum results of oil and zone resistant characteristics were obtained at EPDM/NBR(=25/75 wt%) composition ratio.
