Latest advances in hardware technology and state of the art of mobile robot and artificial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. And mobile service robot requires the perception of its present position to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in populated environments. To realize these abilities, robot needs to keep track of relevant changes in the environment. This paper proposes a localization of mobile robot using the images by distributed intelligent networked devices (DINDs) in intelligent space (ISpace) is used in order to achieve these goals. This scheme combines data from the observed position using dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position using images of moving object, such as those of a walking human, used to determine the moving location of a mobile robot. The moving object is assumed to be a point-object and projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides position data of the object based on the kinematics of the intelligent space. Using the a priori known path of a moving object and a perspective camera model, the geometric constraint equations that represent the relation between image frame coordinates of a moving object and the estimated position of the robot are derived. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the mobile robot, and the Kalman filtering scheme is used to estimate the location of moving robot. The proposed approach is applied for a mobile robot in ISpace to show the reduction of uncertainty in the determining of the location of the mobile robot. Its performance is verified by computer simulation and experiment.

This paper presents a sensorless speed control of a 2-phase switch reluctance motor(SRM). The proposed sensorless control scheme is based on the slide mode observer with parameter compensator to improve the estimation performance. In the stand still position, the initial rotor position is determined by pulse current responses of each phase windings and the current difference. In order to determine an accurate initial rotor position, the two initial rotor positions are estimated by the difference of the pulse currents. From the stand still to the operating region, a simple open loop control which determines the commutation sequence by the pulse current of the unexcited phase winding is used. When the motor speed is reached to the sensorless control region, the estimated rotor position and speed by the slide mode observer are used to control the SRM. The flux calculator used in the slide mode observer is designed by phase voltage and the voltage drops in the phase resistance of the winding. The accuracy of the flux calculator is dependent on the phase resistance. For the continuous update of the phase resistance, current gradient at the inductance break point is used in this paper. The error of the estimated rotor position at the current gradient position is used to update the phase resistance to improve the sensorless scheme. The proposed sensorless speed control scheme is verified with a practical compressor used in home appliances. And the results show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Most car navigation systems(CNS) estimate the vehicle's location using global positioning system(GPS) or dead reckoning(DR) system. However, the estimated location has undesirable errors because of various noise sources such as unpredictable GPS noises. As a result, the measured position is not lying on the road, although the vehicle is known to be restricted on the road network. The purpose of map matching is to locate the vehicle's position on the road network where the vehicle is most likely to be positioned. In this paper, we analyze some general map matching algorithms first. Then, we propose a map matching method using compensation vectors to improve the performance of map matching. The proposed method calculates a compensation vector from the discrepancy between a measured position and an estimated position. The compensation vector and a newly measured position are to be used to determine the next estimation. To show the performance improvement of the map matching using compensation vectors, the real time map matching experiments are performed. The real road experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed map matching.
Generally, a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive requires a rotor position sensor for commutation and current control. However, this position sensor causes an increase for cost and size of motor drive. In this paper, a sliding mode observer is proposed for indirect position sensing in SRM drive. This estimated rotor position is used for the electric commutation of the machine phases. The paper includes a design approach and operating performance based on the proposed sliding mode observer.

This paper contains a precise calibration technique for the position of seabed acoustic target and theoretical error analysis of calibration results. The target is deployed on seabed as a standalone transponder. The purpose of target is performing accuracy test for active sonar as well as position calibration itself. For the position calibration, relative range between target and test vessel should be measured using target's transponder function. The relative range data combined with vessel position can be converted into a estimated position of target by the application of nonlinear LSE method. The error analysis of position calibration was divided into two stages. One is for relative range estimator and the other for target position estimator. Numerical simulations for position calibration showed good matching between results and developed CRLB.

The intelligent robots that will be needed in the near future are human-friendly robots that are able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively. To realize this, robots need to recognize their position and posture in known environment as well as unknown environment. Moreover, it is necessary for their localization to occur naturally. It is desirable for a robot to estimate of his position by solving uncertainty for mobile robot navigation, as one of the best important problems. In this paper, we describe a method for the localization of a mobile robot using image information of a moving object. This method combines the observed position from dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position from the images captured by a fixed camera to localize a mobile robot. Using the a priori known path of a moving object in the world coordinates and a perspective camera model, we derive the geometric constraint equations which represent the relation between image frame coordinates for a moving object and the estimated robot's position. Since the equations are based or the estimated position, the measurement error may exist all the time. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the mobile robot. The Kalman filter scheme is applied for this method. its performance is verified by the computer simulation and the experiment.

The accuracy of small and low-cost CCD cameras is insufficient to provide data for precisely tracking unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This study shows how a quad rotor UAV can hover on a human targeted tracking object by using data from a CCD camera rather than imprecise GPS data. To realize this, quadcopter UAVs need to recognize their position and posture in known environments as well as unknown environments. Moreover, it is necessary for their localization to occur naturally. It is desirable for UAVs to estimate their position by solving uncertainty for quadcopter UAV hovering, as this is one of the most important problems. In this paper, we describe a method for determining the altitude of a quadcopter UAV using image information of a moving object like a walking human. This method combines the observed position from GPS sensors and the estimated position from images captured by a fixed camera to localize a UAV. Using the a priori known path of a quadcopter UAV in the world coordinates and a perspective camera model, we derive the geometric constraint equations that represent the relation between image frame coordinates for a moving object and the estimated quadcopter UAV's altitude. Since the equations are based on the geometric constraint equation, measurement error may exist all the time. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the quadcopter UAV. The Kalman filter scheme is applied for this method. Its performance is verified by a computer simulation and experiments.

This paper presents an implementation of digital control system of speed sensorless for Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives with DTC. The control system consists of stator flux observer, rotor position/speed/torque estimator, two hysteresis band controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP controller by using fully integrated control software. The stator flux observer is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adaptive control that inputs are current and voltage sensing of motor terminal with estimated rotor angle for wide speed range. The rotor position is estimated by observed stator flux-linkage space vector. The estimated rotor speed is determined by differentiation of the rotor position used only in the current model part of the flux observer for a low speed operating area. It does not require the knowledge of any motor parameters, nor particular care for motor starting, In order to prove the suggested control algorithm, we have a simulation and testing at actual experimental system. The developed sensorless control system is shown a good speed control response characteristic results and high performance features in 50/1000 rpm with 1.0Kw RSM having 2.57 ratio of d/q reluctance.

This study presents a new method of system modeling by using the Discrete Fourier Transform for the position control system of DC Motor. And the proposed method is similar to the method of System Identification by analysis of correlation of the measured input-output data. The measured output signals are transformed to the frequency domain using DFT. The Fourier Spectrum of the transformed signals is used for knowing to the feature of having an important effect on the system. And transfer function of the second order system is estimated by the dominant parameter which is computed in the magnitude and the phase of Fourier spectrum of the transformed signals. In addition, the output signal includes the unique feature of system. So, although the basic parameter of the system is unknown for us, the proposed method has an advantage to system modeling. And the controller is easily designed by the estimated transfer function. Thus, in this paper, the proposed method is applied to the system modeling for the position control system of DC Motor and the PD-controller is designed by the estimated model. And the efficiency and the reliability of the proposed method are verified by the experimental result.
