  • In the market of First Person Shooter (FPS) games, Massively Multi-player Online FPS games (MMOFPS) like 'PlanetSide 2' have been popular recently. Dead reckoning has been widely used in order to mitigate the network traffic overload for the game server with hundreds or thousands of people. This paper proposes the efficient analytical method to calculate the tolerable threshold angle of moving direction, which is one of the most important factors for character status updating when dead reckoning is used in MMOFPS games. The experimental results with game testers shows that the proposed method minimizes the position error for character moving and provides natural direction updates of characters.

  • In this study, detection methods of outlier in various monitoring data that fit into big data category were developed and outlier detections were conducted for both artificial data and real field monitoring data. Rule-based methods applied rate of change and probability of error for monitoring data are effective to detect a large-scale short faults and constant faults having no change within a certain period. There are however, problems with misjudgement that consider the normal data with a large scale variation as outlier caused by using independent single dataset. Rule-based methods for noise faults detection have a limit to application of real monitoring data due to the problem with a choice of proper window size of data and finding of threshold for outlier judgment. A correlation analysis among different two datasets were very effective to detect localized outlier and abnormal variation for short and long-term monitoring dataset if reasonable range of training data could be selected.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method for 3D modeling of a human face from trinocular images by reconstructing face surface using range data. By using a trinocular camera system, we mitigated the tradeoff between the occlusion problem and the range resolution limitation which is the critical limitation in binocular camera system. We also propose an MPC_MBS (Matching Pixel Count Multiple Baseline Stereo) area-based matching method to reduce boundary overreach phenomenon and to improve both of accuracy and precision in matching. In this method, the computing time can be reduced significantly by removing the redundancies. In the model generation sub-pixel accurate surface data are achieved by 2D interpolation of disparity values, and are sampled to make regular triangular meshes. The data size of the triangular mesh model can be controlled by merging the vertices that lie on the same plane within user defined error threshold.

  • Internet access from mobile phones over cellular networks suffer from severe bandwidth limitations and high bit error rates over wireless access links. Tailoring TCP connections to best fit the characteristics of this bottleneck link is thus very important for overall performance improvement. In this work, we propose a simple algorithm in deciding the optimal TCP segment size to maximize the utilization of the bottleneck wireless TCP connection for mobile contents server access, taking the dynamic TCP window variation into account. The proposed algorithm can be used when the product of the access rate and the propagation time is not large. With some numerical examples, it is shown that the optimal TCP segment size becomes a constant value when the TCP window size exceeds a threshold. One can set the maximum segment size of a wireless TCP connection to this optimal segment size for mobile contents server access for maximum efficiency on the expensive wireless link.

  • The Viterbi decoder, which employs the maximum likelihood decoding method, is a critical component in forward error correction for digital communication system. However, lowering power consumption on the Viterbi decoder is a difficult task since the number of paths calculated equals the number of distinctive states of the decoder and the Viterbi decoder utilizes trace-back method. In this paper, we propose a method which minimizes the number of operations performed on the comparator, deployed in the SPEC-T Viterbi decoder implementation. The proposed comparator was applied to the ACSU(Add-Compare-Select Unit) and MPMSU(Minimum Path Metric Search Unit) modules on the decoder. The proposed ACS scheme and MPMS scheme shows reduced power consumption by 10.7% and 11.5% each, compared to the conventional schemes. When compared to the SPEC-T schemes, the proposed ACS and MPMS schemes show 6% and 1.5% less power consumption. In both of the above experiments, the threshold value of 26 was applied.

  • Manufacturing workers are easily exposed to the risk of musculoskeletal disorders caused by repetitive tasks in their working environment. This is due to problems with occupational characteristics that repeatedly use the body. However, the current lack of monitoring systems for monitoring and prevention has led to an increase in workers' exposure to risks each year. This paper presents how to solve these problems in real working environment by producing wearable devices using IMU sensors. After wearing a wearable type device, the user's movement is judged through data analysis by receiving the rotation value according to musculoskeletal movement. At this time, the risk is determined by measuring the number of rotations of the user by eliminating bias and eliminating cumulative error, acquiring sophisticated data, and analyzing it in the form of dynamic threshold values. Using the wearable device proposed in this paper, the effect of this method could be checked through a web page measuring the number of rotations for elbow musculoskeletal disorders.

  • In this paper, we discuss the recent trends on the passive UHF RFID tag chip design techniques and several important system parameters. We also summarize link budget studies on both conventional and modem UHF RFID communications. The paper highlights the reverse link limited case, which has known to be the minor concern if reader continuous wave (CW) can reach the tag in sufficient level. This makes sense when the tag sensitivity is rather high (over 10-12${\mu}W$); however, since the tag chip fabrication technologies have been developed by time, the tag chip threshold levels are now less-dominant in determining link margin. If the tag limitation can be alleviated, the forward link limited case can be resolved; thus, we rather focus on the path-loss problem. Since the path-losses are still exist in both forward and reverse links, and it can be doubled while CW travels the reader-tag-reader path because forward link and reverse link are on the same distance. Consider if reader receiver sensitivity is very high in the worst case. In this case, weaken tag response (i.e., backscatters) cannot reach the level that reader receiver can process tag data; bit-error rate can be higher. Overall, backscatter levels should be high enough so that reader receiver can correctly function. After discussing link budget, we carried out practical measurements on fading effects between two circularly polarized UHF RFID antennas in a small scale area.

  • In this paper, we implemented a system to measure respiration rate with nonrestraint sensors comfortable for people to do their everyday life. The proposed system consists of a pad covered with a Piezoelectric sensor, a respiration measuring device able to send the signal data after amplifying and filtering the source signals to the viewer, a viewer providing sensor data visualization and implementing the respiration measuring algorithm. The algorithm is based on a breathing cycle with the local peak points extracted from threshold on sensor data. Respiration measurements on 3 subjects were performed by changing moving averages and thresholds. The proposed system showed less than 5% error rate when proper moving averages are N=50~60 and a range of thresholds is 800~1300. The system will contribute to preventing suffocation during sleep for infants and the elderly living alone.

  • Background: This study aimed to assess the whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure among large blast hole drill machine operators with regard to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recommended threshold values and its association with machine- and rock-related factors and workers' individual characteristics. Methods: The study population included 28 drill machine operators who had worked in four opencast iron ore mines in eastern India. The study protocol comprised the following: measurements of WBV exposure [frequency weighted root mean square (RMS) acceleration ($m/s^2$)], machine-related data (manufacturer of machine, age of machine, seat height, thickness, and rest height) collected from mine management offices, measurements of rock hardness, uniaxial compressive strength and density, and workers' characteristics via face-to-face interviews. Results: More than 90% of the operators were exposed to a higher level WBV than the ISO upper limit and only 3.6% between the lower and upper limits, mainly in the vertical axis. Bivariate correlations revealed that potential predictors of total WBV exposure were: machine manufacturer (r = 0.453, p = 0.015), age of drill (r = 0.533, p = 0.003), and hardness of rock (r = 0.561, p = 0.002). The stepwise multiple regression model revealed that the potential predictors are age of operator (regression coefficient ${\beta}=-0.052$, standard error SE = 0.023), manufacturer (${\beta}=1.093$, SE = 0.227), rock hardness (${\beta}=0.045$, SE = 0.018), uniaxial compressive strength (${\beta}=0.027$, SE = 0.009), and density (${\beta}=-1.135$, SE = 0.235). Conclusion: Prevention should include using appropriate machines to handle rock hardness, rock uniaxial compressive strength and density, and seat improvement using ergonomic approaches such as including a suspension system.
