  • In this paper, we propose a reliable high-speed UDP-based media transport with an adaptive error control. The proposed adaptive transport scheme controls the amount of redundancy by monitoring the network in order to adapt to network fluctuations efficiently. The feedback of receiver enables the sender to be aware of current reception status (i.e., rate and type of packet loss) and to estimate the expected network status. Based on this, the proposed transport attempts to enable reliable transport by adaptively controlling the amount of both whole sending rate and the ratio for adaptive FEC code. Experiment with high-speed network has been conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system that demonstrates the enhanced reliability of the proposed transport at the speed of up to several hundred Mbps.

  • In this paper, we propose the efficient Doppler removal method using map-based partial-time common intermediate frequency removal technique. In the proposed algorithm, the 2-stage carrier removal process was used. First, the component of common intermediate frequency is removed. Next the component of Doppler was removed with averaging and approximation. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, The real-time software GPS L1 C/A-code receiver was implemented. When the proposed algorithms are used, 12 tracking channels with 3 track arm(early, prompt, late) is operated real-time on PC using a Intel Pentium-III 1.0GHz CPU. Also, the requirement of memory was less than 2Mbytes. The real-time software GNSS receiver using the proposed algorithms provides the navigation solution with below 10 meter rms error. Especially, in spited of using the various approximations for implementing the algorithms, the high sensitivity capability (able to track the weak signal with -159dBm) was achieved.

  • We propose the performance enhancing method optimization of an asynchronous 2.5 Gbps/1.25 Gbps optical subscriber network with inverse RZ (Return to Zero) coded downstream and NRZ (Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation by adjusting threshold level control of a receiver. We theoretically analyze the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance by modeling the occurrence of BER by simulation with MATLAB according to the types of downstream data. The results have shown that the normalized threshold level in an optical receiver could be saturated at 1/3 as the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) increases. The needed SNR for obtaining the BER $10^{-9}$ can be reduced by $\sim$5 dB by optimizing the normalized threshold level at 1/3 instead of by using the conventional receiver with threshold level of 0.5. The proposed system can be a useful technology for asynchronous optical access networks with asymmetric upstream and downstream data rates, because the improved minimum receiving power could replace a light source with a source with lower power and lower cost in an OLT (Optical Line Termination).

  • A low density parity check (LDPC) decoder provides a most powerful error control capability for mobile communication devices and storage systems, due to its performance being close to Shannon's limit. In this paper, we introduce an efficient overlapped LDPC decoding algorithm using a upper dual-diagonal parity check matrix structure. By means of this algorithm, the LDPC decoder can concurrently execute parts of the check node update and variable node update in the sum-product algorithm. In this way, we can reduce the number of clock cycles per iteration as well as reduce the total latency. The proposed decoding structure offers a very simple control and is very flexible in terms of the variable bit length and variable code rate. The experiment results show that the proposed decoder can complete the decoding of codewords within 70% of the number of clock cycles required for a conventional non-overlapped decoder. The proposed design also reduces the power consumption by 33% when compared to the non-overlapped design.

  • Problems encountered in IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) design are interferences from neighboring or hidden nodes and collision from simultaneous transmissions within the same contention floors. This paper presents the selective decoding schemes in MAC protocol for multiple input multiple output ad-hoc networks. It is able to mitigate interferences by using a developed minimum mean-squared error technique. This interference mitigation combined with the maximum likelihood decoding schemes for the Alamouti coding enables the receiver to decode and differentiate the desired data streams from co-channel data streams. As a result, it allows a pair of simultaneous transmissions to the same or different nodes which yields the network utilization increase. Moreover, the presented three decoding schemes and time line operations are optimally selected corresponding to the transmission demand of neighboring nodes to avoid collision. The selection is determined by the number of request to send (RTS) packets and the type of clear to send packets. Both theoretical channel capacity and simulation results show that the proposed selective decoding scheme MAC protocol outperforms the mitigation interference using multiple antennas and the parallel RTS processing protocols for the cases of (1) single data stream and (2) two independent data streams which are simultaneously transmitted by two independent transmitters.

  • Data-driven engineering is crucial for information delivery between design, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of prefabricated structures. Design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) is a critical methodology for prefabricated bridge structures. In this study, a novel concept of digital engineering model that combined existing knowledge of DfMA with object-oriented parametric modeling technologies was developed. Three-dimensional (3D) geometry models and their data models for each phase of a construction project were defined for information delivery. Digital design models were used for conceptual design, including aesthetic consideration and possible variation during fabrication and assembly. The seismic performance of a bridge pier was evaluated by linking the design parameters to the calculated moment-curvature curves. Control parameters were selected to consider the tolerance control and revision of the digital models. Digitalized fabrication of the prefabricated members was realized using the digital fabrication model with G-code for a concrete printer or a robot. The fabrication error was evaluated and the design digital models were updated. The revised fabrication models were used in the preassembly simulation to guarantee constructability. For the maintenance of the bridge, the as-built information was defined for the prefabricated bridge piers. The results of this process revealed that data-driven information delivery is crucial for lifecycle management of prefabricated bridge piers.

  • Controller area network (CAN) was designed for multiplexing communication between electronic control units (ECUs) in vehicles and thus for decreasing the overall wire harness. The increasing number of ECUs causes the CAN bus overloaded and consequently the error probability of data transmission increases. Since the time duration for the data transmission is proportional to CAN frame length, it is desirable to reduce the frame length. In this paper, a CAN message compression method is proposed using Data Length Code (DLC) and compression area selection algorithm to reduce the CAN frame length and the error probability during the transmission of CAN messages. By the proposed method, it is not needed to predict the maximum value of the difference in successive CAN messages as opposed to other compression methods. Also, by the use of DLC, we can determine whether the received CAN message has been compressed or not without using two ID's as in conventional methods. By simulations using actual CAN data, it is shown that the CAN transmission data is reduced up to 52 % by the proposed method, compared with conventional methods. By using an embedded test board, it is shown that 64bit EMS CAN data compression can be performed within 0.16ms and consequently the proposed algorithm can be used in automobile applications without any problem.

  • Recently, PC-based control is incredibly developed in the industrial control field, but it is difficult for PLC programming in PC. Therefore, I need to develop the softeware PLC, which support the international PLC programming standard(IECl131-3) and can be applied to diverse control system by using C language. In this paper, I have developed the ISPLC(Intelligent Agent System based Software Programmable Logic Controller). In ISPLC system, LD programmed by a user which is used over $90\%$ among the 5 PLC languages, is converted to IL, which is one of intermediate codes, and IL is converted to the standard C rode which can be used in a commercial editor such as Visual C++. In ISPLC, the detection of logical error in high level programming(C) is more eaier than PLC programming itself The study of code conversion of LD->IL->C is firstly tried in the world as well as KOREA. I developed an execution engine with a good practical application. To show the effectiveness of the developed system, 1 applied it to a practical case, a real time traffic control(RT-TC) system. ISPLC is minimized the error debugging and programming time owing to be supported by windows application program.

  • This study discusses Application-layer FEC using erasure codes. Because of the simple decoding process, erasure codes are used effectively in Application-layer FEC to deal with Packet-level errors. The large number of parity packets makes the loss rate to be small, but causes the network congestion to be worse. Thus, a redundancy control algorithm that can adjust the number of parity packets depending on network conditions is necessary. In addition, it is natural that high-priority frames such as I frames should produce more parity packets than low-priority frames such as P and B frames. In this paper, we propose a redundancy control algorithm that can adjust the amount of redundancy depending on the network conditions and depending on data priority, and test the performance in simple links and congestion links.

  • I propose the 5Gbps/1.25Gbps WDM/TDM hybrid Passive Optical Network(PON) with inverse RZ(Return to Zero) code coded downstream and NRZ(Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation and analyze its performance by performing simulation with MATLAB. The results have shown that an optical line termination (OLT) can be connected to 8, 16 optical network unit (ONU)s with the Bit Error Rate(BER) of $10^{-9}$ when the distance between OLT and ONU is 10Km and transmitted optical powers are more than -3.8, -0.9dBm, respectively. The proposed WDM/TDM hybrid PON system can solve the problem of data rate limit in upstream which happened in the conventional TDM PON because the upstream data rate is proportional to ONU and does not require a light source in ONU and its control circuits in OLT, thus can be a useful technology for asymmetric optical subscriber networks.
