  • A layer of compressible, rotating, elastica-viscous fluid heated & soluted from below is considered in the presence of vertical magnetic field to include the effect of Hall currents. Dispersion relation governing the effect of viscoelasticity, salinity gradient, rotation, magnetic field and Hall currents is derived. For the case of stationary convection, the Rivlin-Erickson fluid behaves like an ordinary Newtonian fluid. The compressibility, stable solute gradient, rotation and magnetic field postpone the onset of thermosolutal instability whereas Hall currents are found to hasten the onset of thermosolutal instability in the absence of rotation. In the presence of rotation, Hall currents postpone/hasten the onset of instability depending upon the value of wavenumbers. Again, the dispersion relation is analyzed numerically & the results depicted graphically. The stable solute gradient and magnetic field (and corresponding Hall currents) introduce oscillatory modes in the system which were non-existent in their absence. The case of overstability is discussed & sufficient conditions for non-existence of overstability are derived.

  • For the exact assessment and diagnosis of stuttering, not only speech disfluency but also the attitude of stuttering has to be considered. However, clinical researches and studies about stuttering have tend to center around disfluency. Relatively little attention was paid to the communication attitude of stuttering. In this paper, we will attempt to investigate that the Modified Erickson Scale of Communication Attitudes(S-24) is available in Korean stutterer. The S-24 was administrated to 27 adults with stuttering and 27 normal adults. Based on the item analysis of S-24, 4 items which have the low item discrimination coefficient and are little difference between stutterer group and normal group were excepted from the scale. To test validity of the reconstructed communication attitude scale, we estimated a internal consistency and carried out correlation analyses and discrimination analyses. We found that the reconstructed scale had a high internal consistency(a = .8701), was consisted six components(explanatory power = 66.59% of total variation), correlated with the PSI at .439 and with the SESAS at -.527, and correctly classified between stutterers and normal adults at 92.6%. Consequently, the reconstructed communication attitude scale is a useful scale to assess stutterer's communication attitude in Korea.

  • This study analyzed the relation of children's attachment security and mother-child interaction to children's peer interactions. The subjects were 51 preschoolers, 44 to 57 months of age and their mothers. Attachment was assessed using the Attachment Q-set (Waters, 1987), mother-child interactions at home were observed with the use of the Teaching Strategies Rating Scales (Erickson, Sroufe, Egeland, 1985), and peer interactions were observed during free play time, using the Holloway and Erickson(1988) categories. Pearson correlation and multiple regression showed that attachment security scores were negatively related to dependency toward peers. Mother's "structure and limit setting" and "respect for child's autonomy" were positively related to "helping with peers" and negatively to "asking for help" and "physical attack". The variables accounting for dependency toward peers were mother's hostility and attachment security.

  • The plastochron index (PI) provides possibility on studies of the effects of various environmental factors on morphological and physiological development of plants. The PI of Erickson and Michemlini(1957) could be used merely when leaf n is longer an leaf n+1 is smaller than the references length at any time. If both the lengths of leaf n and n+1 are smaller or longer than the reference length, it could not estimated. In this study, the PI of Erickson and Michelini was complemented and the linear patterns according to leaf arrangement was represented, PI is n-(lnLR-lnLn)/(lnLn-lnLn+1). And when both the lengths of leaf n and n+1 are longer than the length of reference, PI is n+1+(ln Ln+1-lnLR)/(lnLn-lnLn+1). The linear model of PI is changed by the various environmental factors and the linear patterns are different according to leaf arrangement. According to leaf arrangement, the equation of the general regression lines is Yin-(i-j)=a-(n-1)(q1+...+qi-1)-(q1+...+qj-1)+rt+$\varepsilon$. Where Y:the logarithmic of the leaf length in question, i:leaf number hang on the one node, n:the number counting from base, q:spacing on the Y-axis, j:0, 1, 2, ..., r:slope, t:time, $\varepsilon$:error.
