  • This paper proposes a new $2{\times}2$ spatial-multiplexing(SM) scheme which is constructed by serially concatenating an orthogonal precoder with a conventional SM. Compared to the conventional SM, the proposed scheme achieves improved performance under erasure fading channels without any performance loss under non-erasure fading channels. Particularly the performance gain is more larger as a correlation value between two receive antennas increases.

  • This paper proposes a new 4-dimensional(4D) constellation-rotation(CR) method which obtains diversity gain of 4 under Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed scheme uses two consecutive CR operations for the constellation of QAM signals unlike a conventional 2-dimensional(2D) CR method using only one CR operation. The computer simulation results show that the new method outperforms the conventional one even more as both the channel code rate and the erasure ratio increase. In a point of system flexibility, the proposed scheme has a great advantage since the conventional 2D CR scheme can be simply implemented by only changing rotation angle values used in the proposed scheme.

  • This paper relates to the soft decision method with erasure technique in digital terrestrial television broadcasting system. The proposed decoder use the CSI derived from using the pilots in receiver. The active real(I) and imaginary(Q) data are transferred to the branch metric calculation block that decides the Euclidean distance for the soft decision decoding and also the estimated CSI values are transferred to the same block. After calculating the Euclidean distance for the soft decision decoding, the Euclidean distance of branch metric is multiplied by CSI. To do so, new branch metric values that consider each carrier state information are obtained. We simulated this method in better performance of about 0.15dB to 0.17dB and 2.2dB to 2.9dB in Rayleigh channel than that of the conventional soft decision Viterbi decoding with or without bit interleaver where the constellation is QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM.

  • In this paper, the performance of bit interleaved of coded and modulation(BICM) module of the second generation of digital terrestrial television broadcasting system(DVB-T2) is evaluated with the help of computer simulation. The frame error rate performance is studied in AWGN, Rayleigh fading and 15% erasure channels. In addition, iterative receiver is considered that exchanges extrinsic information between the rotated demapper and the LDPC decoder. Through the simulation it is observed that under the flat fading Rayleigh channel, about 1.2dB gain at FER of $10^{-4}$ is introduced when rotated constellation and iterative demapping and decoding are employed. Under the 15% earasure channel, rotated constellation gives performance gain of about 5dB at BER of $10^{-4}$ and when IDD is applied, additional performance gain of about 3dB can be achieved.
