KAERI is developing the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) as a pre-disposal treatment process for spent fuel. Equipment used for such a spent fuel recycling and management process must operate in intense radiation fields as well as in a high temperature. Therefore, remote maintenance has a played a significant role in this process because of combined chemical and radiological contamination. Hence suitable remote handling and maintenance technology needs to be developed along with the design of the process concepts. To do this, we developed the graphic simulator for the ACP. The graphic simulator provides the capability of verifying the remote operability of the process without fabrication of the process equipment. In other words, by applying virtual reality to the remote maintenance operation, a remote operation task can be simulated in the graphic simulator, not in a real environment. The graphic simulator will substantially reduce the cost of the development of the remote handling and maintenance procedure as well as the process equipment, while at the same time producing a process and a remote maintenance concept that is more reliable, easier to implement, and easier to understand.

Recently, indoor air quality (IAQ) is one of the greatest problems in our modern societies. Although research for IAQ is made rapid progress but IAQ problems concerning in door microorganism contamination is required to be studied still more. So we have investigated the indoor microorganism concentration of a variety of department store, subway station, underground shopping center, kindergartens, library where people complain about the in-door air quality. The experiment on microorganism concentration of indoor air was carried out and the average of total microorganisms was measured. Comparing the experimental results with existing foreign criterion, the experimental results show that the ministry of environment recommendation microorganism concentration value ($800 CFU/m^3$) is in need of revision in the near future.
Infection risks of handling specimens associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) by public health laboratory services teams were assessed to scrutinize the potential hazards arising from the work procedures. Through risk assessments of all work sequences, laboratory equipment, and workplace environments, no aerosol-generating procedures could be identified except the procedures (mixing and transfer steps) inside biological safety cabinets. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as surgical masks, protective gowns, face shields/safety goggles, and disposable gloves, together with pertinent safety training, was provided for laboratory work. Proper disinfection and good hand hygiene practices could minimize the probability of SARS-CoV-2 infection at work. All residual risk levels of the potential hazards identified were within the acceptable level. Contamination by gloved hands was considered as a major exposure route for SARS-CoV-2 when compared with eye protection equipment. Competence in proper donning and doffing of PPE accompanied by hand washing techniques was of utmost importance for infection control.

The water resource depending on mostly surface water has many problems, such as contaminated and unpredicted contamination event. For this reason, it has been employed highly technical treatment method for them, such as ground water dam and river bank filtration. it has been developed the radial collector wells in kind of bank filtration to increase efficiency for in-taking the water resource insead of the vertical well needed many wells to take more resource. But it has many problems with the incumbent method to bore the horizontal hole for radial collector wells, such as filling with the filter material outside of a strainer by watering, jamming as retrieving the casing tube with the filter material, eccentric boring etc. To reduce the problems of incumbent equipment, it has been developed the horizontal boring equipment and performed the field trial tests several times, which have bits and water jetting system with rotating the cone-shaped front to be excavated easily. In this paper, it was compared the brand-new with the incumbent non-rotating pressing insertion method. Also it was shown the problems of the incumbent method was reduced effectively.

This study assessed the safety of raw oysters Crassostrea gigas for consumption during processing in a processing plant. Bacterial contamination (e.g., viable cell counts, coliform groups, Escherichia. coli and pathogenic bacteria) and chemical contamination (e.g., heavy metals and shellfish toxins) were measured on raw oysters, a processing equipment, employees and work areas. No total mercury, lead, paralytic shellfish poison, diarrheic shellfish poison or norovirus was detected in any post-harvested oyster samples. However, the cadmium level ranged from 0.1-0.2 mg/kg. The viable cell count, E. coli and coliform group levels in post-harvested oysters ranged from 4.00-4.54 log CFU/g, ND-210 MPN/100 g and 110-410 MPN/100 g, respectively. The viable contaminating cell counts on employees, equipment and work areas were in the range of $0.90-3.46log\;CFU/100cm^2$. Airborne bacteria in the work areas ranged from 0.60 to 1.81 log CFU/plate/15 min. Thus, no significant health risks were detected in the processing plant.

The study was designed to analyze raw and auxiliary materials of Korean traditional cookies such as Yugwa and Gangjeong, equipment and tools, personal hygiene of workers and microbial contamination of materials by each manufacturing process. In addition, it looked at washing method for reducing microorganisms at the site and reduction effect of microorganisms by frequency in the manufacturing processes of Yugwa. In the process of producing Korean traditional cookies, the level of total aerobic bacteria (TAB) in popped rice was 1.2 Log CFU/g and the level of TAB in finished products increased to 3.7 Log CFU/g. In the process of producing Yugwa, the level of TAB increased to a maximum of 6.5 Log CFU/g in the soaking process but decreased to 1.3 Log CFU/g in the frying process. However, the level of TAB increased again to 1.3 Log CFU/g in finished products that proves its recontamination. It is estimated that he manufacturing process causes cross-contamination that comes from the work tools, equipment or workers. In particular, the spatula, one of the work tools, was found to have 4.4 Log CFU/g of aerobic bacteria and 4.2 Log CFU/g of colon bacillus that show they are highly contaminated. In the soaking process of Yugwa that lasts seven days, the level of TAB was a maximum of 10 Log CFU/g and the level of total colon bacillus was 6.8 Log CFU/g. When compared with washing methods, using hands and tools or running water, it is confirmed that the level of both TAB and total colon bacillus decreased to 5.0 Log CFU/g and 2.8 Log CFU/g respectively when hands were washed with running water 10 times. The above result shows that it's required for workers to wash their hands as well as wash and disinfect work tools and equipment in the process of producing Korean traditional cookies at small-scale companies. In addition, to reduce the level of microbial contamination in finished products, workers are required to apply their reduction method at the site.

Low pressure mercury lamp type UV equipments have been widely used for cleaning and modification of PCB surfaces. To enhance the productivity of the process, we newly developed remote DBD type atmospheric pressure plasma equipment. The productivity of both equipments could be compared by measuring surface contact angle for various transferring speed. By the result of the measurement, we could verify that the productivity of the atmospheric pressure plasma be superior to the productivity of the UV equipment. XPS experiments confirmed that the surface effect of the UV and atmospheric pressure plasma processing are similar for each other. Organic contamination level was reduced after the processing and some surface elements were oxidized for both cases. Finally, the atmospheric pressure plasma equipment was adapted to flip chip BGA's flux printing process and it was concluded that the printing uniformity be enhanced by the atmospheric pressure plasma surface treatment.
Current status of soil contamination with fluorine and its source were investigated. The basic principles and procedures of various techniques for the analysis of fluorine contents in soil and solid phase samples were summarized in this review. Analysis of fluorine in solid matrices can be achieved by two types of techniques: (i) UV/Vis spectrophotometer or ion selective electrode (ISE) analysis after performing appropriate extraction steps and (ii) direct solid analysis. As the former cases, the standard method of Korean ministry of environment, alkali fusion-ISE method, pyrohydrolysis, oxygen bomb combustion, aqua regia digestion-automatic analysis, and sequential extraction-ISE method were introduced. In addition, direct analysis methods (i.e., X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and proton induced gamma-ray emission spectrometry) and atomic spectrometry combining with the equipment for introducing solid phase sample were also reviewed. Fluorine analysis techniques can be reasonably selected through site-specific information such as matrix condition, contamination level, the amount of samples and the principles of various methods for the analysis of fluorine presented in this review.

Surface contamination and leakage current have caused operating problems. A flashover in a substation may result in destruction of an insulator or many others electrical equipment. Engineering plastics have good characteristic (light weight, good productivity and little of void) as compare with epoxy or porcelain insulators. Outdoor insulator must have resistance to contamination. However, they are not suited to outdoor insulator by reason of being not good hydrophobic. RTV has a good property of hydrophobic and ATH has characteristic obstructing exothermic reaction. In order to reduce the incidence of insulator flashover and damage, the silicon rubber contained nano size ATH coat on surface of engineering plastics. In this paper, it compares resistance tracking of the engineering plastic coated RTV with that of non-coated engineering plastic and ATH filled composites performed much better than non-filled composites.
An integrated in-line oil monitoring detector assigned for continuous in situ monitoring multiple parameters of oil performance for predicting economically optimal oil change intervals and equipment condition control is presented in this study. The detector estimates oil deterioration based on the information about chemical degradation, total contamination, water content of oil and oil temperature. The oil oxidation is estimated by "chromatic ratio", total contamination is measured by the changes in optical intensity of oil in three optical wavebands ("Red", "Green" and "Blue") and water content is evaluated as Relative Saturation of oil by water. The detector is able to monitor oils with low light absorption (hydraulic, transformer, turbine, compressor and etc. oils) as well as oils with rather high light absorption in visible waveband (diesel and etc. oils). In a case study that the detector is applied to a diesel engine oil, it is found that the detector provides good results on oil chemical degradation as well as soot concentration.
