얕은 정현형 아치의 불안정 거동에 관한 연구(1) : 형상특성에 따른 정적좌굴의 분류 (The Instability Behavior of Shallow Sinusoidal Arches(1) : Classification of Static Buckling According to Shape Characteristics)

  • 쉘형 구조물의 불안정 현상은 크게 뜀좌굴과 분기좌굴로 분류할 수 있다. 이들은 구조물의 형상특성, 특히 형상 초기불완전에 대해 매우 민감하게 반응한다. 본 연구에서는, 형상 초기불완전을 가진 쉘형 구조물의 불안정 거동을 파악하기 위해 양단이 힌지로 고정된 얕은 정현형 아치의 평형경로를 조사한다. 비선형 방정식을 얻기 위해 Galerkin법을 이용하였으며, 증분형 방정식으로의 변환은 섭동법을 이용하였다.

비평형 열처리에 의한 주조용 Al-Si-Cu합금 조직의 개량 효과 (Effects of the Non-equilibrium Heat-treatment on Modification of Microstructures of Al-Si-Cu Cast Alloy)

  • Addition of Ca element and nonequilibrium heat treatment which promotes shape modification of eutectic Si and ${\beta}$ intermetallic compound were conducted to improve the mechanical properties of Al-Si-Cu alloy. Modification of eutectic Si and dissolution of needle-shape ${\beta}$ intermetallic compounds were possible by nonequilibrium heat treatment in which specimens were held at $505^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in Al-Si-Cu alloy with Fe. Owing to the decrease in aspect ratio of eutectic Si by the heat treatment of the alloy with 0.33wt.% Fe, the increase in elongation was prominent to be more than double that in the as-cast specimen. Dissolution of needle-shape ${\beta}$ intermetallic compounds in the alloy with 0.85wt.% Fe led to the improvement of tensile strength as the length of ${\beta}$ compounds decreased to 50%.

바이오텐세그리티 구조 시스템의 형상 결정 (Shape Finding of Bio-Tensegrity Structural System)

  • This study investigated a bio-tensegrity structural system that combines the characteristics of a general tensegrity structural system with a biological system. The final research objective is to accomplish a changeability for the structural system as like the movement of the natural bio-system. In the study, we present a shape finding procedure for the two stage bio-tensegrity system model inspired by the movement pattern of animal backbone. The proposed system is allowing a dynamic movement by introducing the concept of "saddle" for the variable bio-tensegrity structure. Several shape finding analysis example and results are presented and shows a efficient validation and suitability.

  • Modeling of vibrations of a rotating pendulum with working shape memory alloy rod has been performed in the frames of a microstructural model taking into account the latent heat release, absorption and the heat exchange during direct and reverse martensitic transformation. It has been shown that the influence of the latent heat, the rate of preliminary deviation of the pendulum from the equilibrium, the rate of heating and cooling can have a significant impact on the vibrations and damping characteristics of the system.

  • The paper presents a new approach for the analysis of slope stability that is based on the numerical solution of a differential equation, which describes the thrust force distribution within the potential sliding mass. It is based on the evaluation of the thrust force value at the endpoint of the slip line. A coupled approximation of the slip and thrust lines is applied. The model is based on subdivision of the sliding mass into slices that are normal to the slip line and the equilibrium differential equation is obtained as the slice width approaches zero. Opposed to common iterative limit equilibrium procedures the present method is straightforward and gives an estimate of slope stability at the value of the safety factor prescribed in advance by standard requirements. Considering the location of the thrust line within the soil mass above the trial slip line eliminates the possible development of a tensile thrust force in the stable and critical states of the slope. The location of the upper boundary point of the thrust line is determined by the equilibrium of the upper triangular slice. The method can be applied to any smooth shape of a slip line, i.e., to a slip line without break points. An approximation of the slip and thrust lines by quadratic parabolas is used in the numerical examples for a series of slopes.

The Motion of Plasma in an Excited Quiescent Filament

  • Quiescent filaments are bigger, more stable, and longer lived than active region filaments. So, the shape of a quiescent filament changes little during its lifetime and a fast motion of plasma rarely occurs. But when it is dynamically influenced by external phenomena, a rapid motion of plasma may temporarily occur. By analyzing the motion of plasma we can infer some of the magnetic structure permeating such an excited quiescent filament. We analyzed the H$\alpha$ images of a quiescent filament in the northern hemisphere that was observed at Big Bear Solar Observatory on 2004 August 2, and found that: 1) the filament was excited by a flare that occurred in a remote active region located in the southern hemisphere, 2) By this excitation, a part of the filament moved vertically upward and horizontally out of main body, and then it stayed there without much motion. Then after it moved vertically downward and horizontally to the main body, 3) the final position of plasma, however, was not the same as the initial position, being about 14Mm above it. We suggest that the filament was initially in a more or less static equilibrium. The excitation of the filament broke the initial equilibrium, and then brought about a new one that is different from the original one. Since the filament should have magnetic field, it is likely that both the equilibria may have been maintained by diplike magnetic structures. Furthermore, the transition from one equilibrium to another as we inferred should have accompanied a permanent change of magnetic configuration as well.

토사지반에 설치된 역 T형 옹벽의 저판형상이 활동거동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Base Shape of Cantilever Retaining Wall in Soil Foundation on the Sliding Behavior)

  • This thesis is to investigate the sliding behavior of cantilever retaining wall by using the commercially available program of FLAC to simulate its behavior numerically. Cantilever retaining walls with flat base, sloped base and base with shear key, uniform surcharges being applied on the surface of backfill, were investigated to figure out appropriate location of shear key beneath the base of wall and, thus, its applicability to field condition was assessed by comparing the analyzed results to each other. On the other hand, previously performed centrifuge model test results (Eum, 1996) were analyzed numerically with FLAC to compare test results with respect to characteristics of load-settlement of surcharges and load-lateral movement of wall. Based on the failure mechanism observed during centrifuge tests, limit equilibrium method of finding the ultimate load inducing the sliding failure of wall was used to compare with values of the ultimate load obtained from conventional method of limit equilibrium method. Therefore, appropriate location of shear key was determined to mobilize the maximum resistance against sliding failure of wall.

  • It is difficult to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula of gerotor hydraulic pump/motor because geometric shape of rotors is complicated. An analytical method about the volumetric displacement is proposed in this work, which is relatively easy and based upon two physical concepts. The first one is energy conservation between hydraulic energy of the pump/motor and mechanical input/output energy. The second concept is torque equilibrium with respect to inner and outer rotors. The formula about the volumetric displacement is derived for the common case of inner and outer rotors rotate with respect to fixed axes. The formula is verified by comparing another analytical displacement formula, and it is numerically verified by comparing numerical results, which is calculated for geometric specification of a motor. The numerical displacement is calculated through CAD software program and MATLAB program. The proposed analytical formula can be utilized in analysis and design of hydraulic gerotor motors.

Linear Form Finding Approach for Regular and Irregular Single Layer Prism Tensegrity

  • In an irregular prism tensegrity, the number of force equilibrium equations is less than the number of unknown parameters of nodal coordinates and member force ratios. As a result, the form-finding process normally becomes nonlinear with additional conditions or needs to be carried out with the use of iterative procedures. For cases of irregular prism tensegrity which involves large number of members, it was found that previously proposed methods of form-finding are not practical. Moreover, there is a need for a form-finding approach which is able to cater to different requirements on final configuration. In this paper, the length relation condition is introduced to be used in combination with the force equilibrium equation. With the combined use of length relation and equilibrium conditions, a linear form-finding approach for irregular prism tensegrity was successfully formulated and developed. An easy-to-use interactive form-finding tool has been developed which can be used for form-finding of irregular prism tensegrities with large number of elements as well as under diverse specific requirements on their configurations.

충격파형 제어를 위한 펄스쉐이퍼의 동적 변형 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the dynamic deformation characteristics of pulse shapers for controlling the shape of impact waves)

  • 스플릿 홉킨슨 압력 봉(SHPB)실험은 암석 및 콘크리트와 같은 취성재료의 동적 물성과 변형특성을 파악하고 압축 응력-변형율 데이터를 획득하기 위하여 사용된다. SHPB 실험법은 원리상 대상시료가 파괴이전에 동적응력평형 상태와 일정 변형율 속도 조건하여 놓여져 있어야 한다. 이러한 조건을 만족시키기 위하여 충격봉과 입사봉의 충격에 의하여 발생되는 충격 입사파형을 제어할 필요가 있다. 최근에는 원형 디스크를 충격봉과 입사봉 사이에 두어 입사 충격파형을 제어하는 펄스쉐이핑 기법이 적용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 입사 충격파형을 정밀하게 제어할 목적으로 다양한 형태와 크기의 금속디스크를 대상으로 SHPB 실험을 수행하여 동적 변형 특성을 파악하였다. 펄스쉐이퍼의 두께와 직경이 작아짐에 따라 응력값과 파장은 증가하였다.
