  • The effect of epoxy resin on the water stability of HAC/PVA based MDF cement composite were stu-died through the three different forming methods calendering extruding and warm pressing. In prexing step the epoxy resin was added in 5-15wt% of cement weight. The 3-point flexural strength of each dry and wet specimen which were immersed in water during 3. 7, 14 days was estmated and the mi-crostructural change of epoxy resin-added MDF cement composite due to water immersion was charac-terized by scanning electron microscopy. As the addition amount of epoxy resin the im-provement of water stability of MDF cement composite was achieved in most case. Especially through the warm press forming method the effectiveness of epoxy resin addition to the water stability was enhanced. When the epoxy resin was added by 5wt% to 7wt% the optimum flexural strength and water stability

  • The bisphenol A epoxy resin currently used for the conservation of stone cultural heritage items is known to suffer from yellowing discoloration. In order to mitigate this yellowing and explore the availability of more diverse materials for the conservation of stone cultural heritage items, a hydrogenated Bisphenol A-based epoxy resin was prepared and compared with the epoxy resin currently used in the conservation treatment of stone cultural heritage items. The newly prepared epoxy resin showed improved physical properties relative to the existing materials, especially in terms of tensile strength, adhesion, and machinability, while the yellowing discoloration was reduced by a factor of roughly five to eight. The results suggest that epoxy resin could be used as a stable material for the conservation treatment of stone cultural heritage items, most of which are located outdoors.

  • We have been fabricated Thin-walled carbon nanotubes (TWNTs)/amine epoxy additives composite using Eco-friendly solvent system such as supercritical process and dry mixed process. TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite has used as a curing agent for urethane based bisphenol A type epoxy resin. The thermo-mechanical property of the epoxy resin cured by TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite is characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) and dispersability of the nanotubes in the epoxy matrix is also confirmed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). As a results, the epoxy resin cured by TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite with supercritical process shows enhanced dispersability of the TWNTs in the matrix and thermo-mechanical property when compare to dry mixed process.

  • Phosrhonium salt exchanged montmorillonites were prepared from a reaction between alkyl triphenyl phosponium bromide and Na$^{+}$-montmorillonite. Epoxy-clay nanocomposites were also prepared by using cycloaliphtic epoxy, methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride as a hardener, and triphenyl butyl phosphonium bromide as an accelerator. TEM and XRD results suggested that clay minerals in the epoxy-montmorillonites composite were intercalated. Mechanical properties such as tensile modulus and strength were measured and the effect of nanocomposite formation was also discussed.

  • Electrically conductive carbon fiber/high density polyethylene (CF/HDPE) composite films were fabricated by new method, so called electron-ion technology (EIT) and the effects of CF epoxy sizing on the volumetric resistivity. tensile strength and interphase properties of the films were investigated. While epoxy sizing increased conductivity of composite films resulting from enhanced tunneling effect it reduced interphase adhesion between CF and HDPE because polar epoxy sizing and nonpolar HDPE are incompatible. Consequently epoxy sized CF(CF(S)) caused significant reduction in the volumetric resisitivity and tensile strength of composite films when compared with unsized CF(CF(U)). Epoxy sizing reduced nucleating efficiency of CF(S), therefore CF(S)/HDPE composite films showed nonuniform transcrystalline layer when compared with CF(U)/HDPE composite films.

  • PDMS modified epoxy resin with epoxy group (EMPDMS) was prepared from the reaction of ${\alpha},{\omega}$-aminopropylpolydimethylsiloxane and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) based epoxy resin, and PDMS modified epoxy hybrid compound (EMPDMSH) was prepared by introducing alkylesteraminopropyl alkoxy silane to EMPDMS. Their structures were characterized using FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR and $^{29}Si$-NMR. Coating materials were prepared by mixing EMPDMSH base and solvent. Physical properties of the coating materials coated on epoxy/glass fiber composite film were measured according to the content of PDMS in EMPDMSH. Contact angle of coating film was increased 30 to 71 degree. Adhesive property of coating film was 5B degree better then epoxy or acrylate coating materials, and surface roughness was decreased as increasing in EMPDMSH.

  • Epoxy adduct carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile(CTBN) was prepared by blending of CTBN and epoxy resin. CTBN/PU/epoxy was prepared from polyurethane(PU), epoxy resin, and CTBN. The CTBN/PU/epoxy using 5 wt% of CTBN content showed shifting damping peak as PU content increased. It suggested that CTBN/PU/epoxy had good compatibility for all composition at 5 wt% of CTBN content. But miscibility of CTBN/PU/epoxy decreased with the increase of the CTBN content. PU content for maximum flexural properties of CTBN/PU/epoxy was 10 wt%, but decreased with the increase of the PU content. The fracture toughness of CTBN/epoxy was improved by addition of the PU. Fracture surfaces of CTBN/PU/epoxy showed the shear deformation and generation of stress whitening which is associated with the cavitation. Cavitation in the CTBN and shear defomation in the PU modified epoxy matrix are the toughening mechanisms for CTBN/PU/epoxy.

  • Glass fiber epoxy composite material is widely used in the structures of aircrafts, robots and other machines because of their high specific strength, high specific stiffness and high damping. In order for the composite materials to be used in the aircraft structures or machine elements, accurate surfaces for bearing mounting or joint must be provided, which require precise machining. In this paper, the machinability of the glass fiber epoxy composite material was experimentally investigated. The results can be summarized as follows : 1. The entrance of hole is very good manufacturing existing, but exit come to occur sever surface exfoliation. 2. The cutting force in drilling of the glass fiber epoxy composite material is decreased as the drilling speed increased. 3. If the glass fiber epoxy composite material is drilling by the standard twist drill, then the hole recommand cutting condition is spindle speed 400∼600rpm, feed 40∼50mm/min.

  • This study concentrates the effect of hybridisation on the collapse mode and energy absorption for composite cylinders. The static collapse behavior of laminated(Al/CFRP/GFRP) circular-cylindrical composite shell under quasi-static axial compressive load has been investigated experimentally. Eight different hybrids of laminated(Al/CFRP/GFRP) circular-cylindrical composite shell were fabricated by autoclave. Eight types of composites were tested, namely, Al/carbon fiber/epoxy, Al/glass fiber/epoxy, Al/carbon-carbon-glass/epoxy, Al/carbon-glass-carbon/epoxy, Al/carbon-glass-glass/epoxy, Al/glass-glass-carbon/epoxy, Al/glass-carbon-glass/epoxy and Al/glass-carbon-carbon/epoxy. Collpase modes were highly dominated by the effect of hybridisation. The results also showed that the hybrid member with material sequence of Al-glass-carbon-carbon/epoxy exhibited good energy absorption capability.

  • In this study, oxidized graphene nanoplatelet(GO) was prepared by oxidizing graphene nanoplatelet(GNP) with nitric acid in order to solve the problem of dispersion of GNP, one of nano materials. The surface chemical composition of the prepared GO was analyzed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) before incorporation into the epoxy paint, and the dispersibility in the solvent was confirmed. Meanwhile, GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paint were prepared by mixing GNP, GO with 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0wt.% in epoxy paint and the mechanical properties were evaluated. As a result, GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paints showed better mechanical properties than Neat Epoxy which did not incorporate GNP, GO. Especially, when 0.3wt.% of GO was incorporated into epoxy resin, it showed higher tensile strength than Neat Epoxy. It was confirmed that acid treatment of GNP was effective in improving the mechanical properties of epoxy paint.
