  • It had been strictly prohibited to plant in waterway according to Korea laws and regulations. It was then made possible to plant by the modification law and regulation of 10/30/1997. In 2000, the Seoul metropolis government planted in the Yeoyido flood plain park in Han river by way of showing the model case. This planting design is for the Yeoyido flood plain park along the Han river, in Seoul. The design requirements were to create a pleasant rest area, to improve the surrounding landscape, and to create diverse ecological habitats by planting within the stability of flood flow. This design emphasizes the following design requirements that has positive effect on stabilizing flood flow. First, planting suitable in a area was determined by the speed of a current of less than 0.7m/sec under various numerical value simulations. Second, plants were selected in existing trees of the present and the past Han river, as well as the questionnaire results from landscape professional engineers and professors. Shade plants were planted in the large visiting areas so as to offer pleasant shade in the summer, the ecological planting pattern was applied in the area with low speed of flood flow, so as to aid the restoration of the natural ecological environment. It was found that the foresaid planting design verified the stability of flood flow and wind by overturn limit moment calculation. It is expected that this plan would serve environmentally friendly planting plans in flood plain park.

  • This study intends to propose the fundamentals of 'Ecovillage' design by researching into the cycle system of material of 'Crystalwaters' which is having been in charge of a leading role of GEN since 1996 (GEN was formed in 1996) as Ecovillage in Australia. First, to secure the water resources, we can store up rain and the water of valley, and dam. Second, we are able to use the natural filter apparatus, do tree-planting of roof to gain better quality of water. Third, it is to save the energy as supplying water. For it, we make the best of a gravity that is one of the cycle principle of water. Forth, to build a Dam can make a site of scenic beauty, do the role of recreation place and provide against emergencies (a fire, drought) as well as make a mild climate. Fifth, it can reduce the environment load because of sewage and garbage as making it compost. This is possible by treating biologically using composting apparatus of the dry or wet process. Sixth, it is to reduce the environmental pollution as to discharge seperating a recycable waste, an organic matter being able to make it compost. Finally, first of all, environmentally friendly inhabitant consciousness from lifestyle and production style plays an importent part for water cycle and the ecological cycle of waste and sewage.

  • To manage rainwater environmentally friendly, it is necessary to let the rainwater be infiltrated naturally and make reservoirs to detain it in the chosen spot. Not only should it be prepared to handle the city flood, but also it be a necessary alternative for establishing the ecological water circular system in cities. Therefore, considering the present rainwater. management system, this study analysed the status of products which can be interchanged from existent systems to rainwater infiltrating systems. In this study, the infiltrating equipment that is applicable to the Korean drainage system was developed. The case was studied out to investigate the effects of infiltrating and the detaining ability of the developed product. The case site, block 6 of Sang-am residence, was selected and analyzed. The amount of infiltration and detention per unit of the introduced facilities, i.e., infiltrating pipes and tanks were calculated. In this research, the amount of each infiltrating tank was revealed to be 1.353 m/hr and the amount of detention as 0.299 m/hr. And the amount of each infiltrating pipe was found to be 0.541 m/hr and the amount of detention was 0.118 m/hr. To examine the effects of the system, the total amount of the outlet before and after installing was compared and calculated. In doing this, a basis for deciding the arrangement and number of tanks and pipes of the infiltrating system was made.

  • This study analyzes the average acquisition ratio between the 1st and 4th grade and the distribution and characteristics of the acquisition between the assessment items based on the case of Green Building Certification System(GBCS) for the educational facilities on the university campus. By evaluating the difference between the best scored grade (Green 1st Grade) and the general grade (Green 4th Grade), we classified the cases where the difference between grades with little or big difference. By doing this, we were able to analyze the trend that were difficult to distinguish between difficult to score and an easy task. G-SEED should be used not only as a formal system for certifying certification, but also to provide environmentally-friendly technology for buildings as well as meeting market needs. To do this, it is necessary to further refine the evaluation criteria. In addition, it is necessary to establish a qualitative evaluation system by providing detailed criteria for items that are not distinguishable among grades. It is expected that this study will be used to improve the detailed evaluation items by analyzing trends in the average acquisition rate presented in this study.

  • In order to minimize carbon emissions and greenhouse gas, the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) has become a major factor to be considered in recent years in a ship's design and operation phases. Energy-Saving Devices (ESDs) improve the EEDI of a vessel and make them environmentally friendly. In this research, the performance of an equalizing duct-type ESD installed upstream of a Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) Container Ship (KCS) model's propeller was investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Open-source CFD libraries, OpenFOAM, were used for computational analysis of the KCS with and without the ESD to verify the performance improvement. The flow field near the stern region and propulsive coefficients were considered for comparison. The results showed a considerable improvement when an ESD was used on the model. Using different sizes of the duct, the performance of the ESD was also compared. It was observed that with an increased duct size, the propulsive performance was improved.

  • This paper presents a landscape design for the citizen plaza around the ˝Woojeongchongkuk˝(the 1st Korean postal building) where the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1844 coup d´etat) occurred and which was once used as the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(a palace hospital). The site is located in 39 Kyeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and of which area is about 2,013$m^2$. The landscape design goals are to build traditional spaces which fit the traditional buildings and where people feel the old atmosphere; to build interesting spaces where people can learn the post and telegraphic history; and to build nature-friendly green rest spaces in the city. To achieve these goals, symbolic, traditional, educational, historical, and environmentally-friendly concepts are developed. With this concept the space is divided into two axis of the pst and telegraph of Korea. Along the two axis the Postage Stamp ˝Madang˝(yard), the Letter Garden, the Telegraphic ˝Ddeul˝(garden), the Communication Plaza, and the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(old palace hospital) and the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1884 coup d´etat) Memorial Place are arranged. The Postal Stamp Madang which symbolizes the first Korean postage stamp is a space for studying history and evolution of stamps in Korea. The Letter Garden which symbolizes and formalizes a letter paper is composed with white bamboo trees which are planted linearly and long granite benches on which famous letters are carved. In the Telegraphic Ddeul which symbolizes the telegraph, the history of the telegraphic instrument and the telephone is exhibited. In the Communication Plaze which symbolizes future post and telegraph service extending to the world, the images of satellite communication, internet, webmail etc. are exhibited. • This study aimed to analyze health promotion villages from the perspective of therapeutic architecture, and to provide basic information for planning relevant health facilities. On the basis of a review of previous literature, the characteristics of therapeutic architecture were classified into eight categories: safety, comfort, sociality, autonomy, openness, diversity, privacy, and natural environment. Field study and observation were performed in four health promotion villages that conduct programs for lifestyle improvement, physical fitness, and treatment; these villages were also considered to have a healthy residential environment. The researcher and three assistants visited the facilities and checked utilization of space through interviews with the staff and guided tours. Basic information about the subject facilities, such as the purpose of establishment, was gathered from websites before visits. Two of the villages examined in this study had a traditional Korean wooden structure, while the other two were reinforced concrete and masonry block structures. All the facilities emphasized the use of environmentally friendly material and harmony with nature. Each site was divided into the following areas: office, residence, health/treatment, public/rest, and outdoor. The safety standards of the healing architecture were not completely satisfactory at all facilities. In particular, it was found that they lacked adequate universal design equipment. However, the healing characteristics of autonomy and diversity were strong. With regard to autonomy, the facilities allowed visitors to select indoor-outdoor moving lines and the use of front- and backyards constructed on slopes. In addition, they were equipped with many entries, staircases, void, terraces, and crossroads. The architecture was aesthetically designed using feng shui symbolism, and visitors found the scenes depicted in various spaces in the villages to be stimulating. Besides, the facilities were constructed using natural materials, had a natural indoor environment, and provided a sense of spaciousness and flexibility.
