  • The concentrations of 20 congeners of PCBs were determined in surficial and dated sediments from Jinhae, Busan, Ulsan and Yeongil Bay of Korea to assess current distributions as well as historical trends. The concentration ranges of total CBs in sediments were nd-138.60 ng/g dry wt. The concentrations of total CBs were significantly different among bays in the southeastern coastal areas (Kruskal-Wallis Test, p=0.036), Showing the Order Of Busan>Ulsan>Yeongil>Jinhae Bay. Predominant PCB homologues were penta-, hexa- and hepta-CBs. The down-core distributions of PCBs showed that the highest concentrations occurred in the late 1960s, coinciding with the onset of industrialization of Korea. The compositions of PCB congeners in sediment among bays were uniform, suggesting that major sources were not changed over time.

  • In an effort to effectively manage and evaluate a water environment at a small watershed, a decision support system for a water environment management and evaluation has been developed. This paper described the overall features and functions of the water environment management and evaluation systems (WEMES) for environmental management, conservation, and evaluation at a small watershed. WEMES consisted of fore subsystems: data, simulation model, evaluation model, and user interface. Each of the systems were briefly described. And special features like simulation and evaluation models were also introduced.

  • This research aims to propose a ubiquitous integration monitoring system for the feeding and environment management of livestock production. The integration monitoring system proposed in this research is based on an integrated platform, and consists of livestock shed environment monitoring system, livestock monitoring system, livestock remote medical treatment, and feeding and management system. This research conducts the followings. First, we review the previous researches on livestock related ubiquitous monitoring system to examine the factors to be considered in the proposed system. Then, we design the system and implement the prototype to demonstrate the possibility of the application of this system to real stockbreeding environment.

  • The objective of this study was to review and analyze the application technologies of electronics and microprocessor for environment control and automated management systems of livestock production of the advanced countries, and to select the appropriate and applicable technologies for our systems among the analyzed. In this study, the environment control systems were analyzed mainly on the poultry production systems and the automated management systems on swine and dairy production systems. According to the results, the advanced technologies reviewed and analyzed could be applicable for designing our animal production systems, if those were modified and remodeled for our situation.

  • In rapidly changing environments of Foodservice Industry, it would be leading companies have made constant efforts to establish efficient management through active involvement in management accounting. Especially the foodservice business in Korea needs more critical managerial environment to grow and develope as a going business, these management environment is changed according to deepening of the competition between foodservice companies and customer's wants. In order to succeed in this change of management environment, a new managerial policy is required which the economic environment, estimates the level and the direction of change and makes efficient use of various resources through internal control.

  • Construction project is necessary element for human life to upgrade the quality and convenience. However, due to its contradictory nature to the environment preservation, environmental pollution and damage, deterioration of natural scenery, noise/vibration, water quality pollution, etc. caused in the process of construction greatly affect the environment. For the building or construction project, its possible impact on environment during construction work and after completion must be predicted at its design phase, which will result in the completion of the architecture convenient for human being with its environmental pollution reduced to minimum level. In this study, the checklist of environmental factors was suggested, which should be taken into account at its design phase in conducting the construction work. Proposed checklist was linked with the developed web-based system for the convenience of users like designer and construction manager, etc. It is expected that the checklist suggested by this study will help the designer and construction manager to continue the steady development from the environmental viewpoint during the design phase.

  • Objective:This study aims to investigate the correlation between office environment satisfaction levels and workers' subjective symptoms by conducting surveys asking office workers to state their subjective symptoms and office satisfaction levels. Background: The increased number of office workers and their work hours have led to new understandings of the importance of office environments including its temperature, humidity, noise levels, lighting, space arrangements, and quality of air. Method: Specific details on office work, office environment, office space satisfaction levels, workplace related symptoms, absence from work, due to workplace-related symptoms, were analyzed based on the survey answers given by 451 office workers who were the subjects of this research. Results: Office workers showed different characteristics of subjective symptoms depending on their gender, age, work experience, and time spent resting and on computers. Also, differences in symptoms were found for workers with different satisfaction levels for office environment (temperature, humidity, noise levels, quality of air, lighting) and office space arrangements (location of monitors, area and display of office space, chairs and desks). Conclusion and Application: Relationship between workers' satisfaction levels with the office environment and their subjective symptoms is expected to be serve as essential data for systematic management of the workplace.

  • Marine pollution prevention manager system has been operated for the purpose of preventing marine pollution from ships and marine facilities in Korea. As a new "marine environment management act" replacing an old "marine pollution prevention low" had entered into force from January 20, 2008, the education system for marine pollution prevention manager is to change in some ways. Major changes in education/training institutions, education/training courses, trainees, marine pollution prevention manager's works and business, marine facilities and educational subjects are summarized, comparing between old "marine pollution prevention act" and new "marine environment management act".

  • The whole objective of two papers in series was to develop the framework of an information management system (IMS) for soil-contaminated sites. In the previous first paper (Hwang et al., 2006), current status of information management in our country and the developed countries was investigated and four suggestions were made. In this work (the second paper), the future-oriented framework for information system of soil contamination sites and several suggestions were made.

  • HSPF model based on BASINS was applied to analyze effects of watershed management measures for water quality conservation in the Hwaseong Reservoir watershed. The model was calibrated against the field measurements of meteorological data, streamflow and water qualities ($BOD_5$, T-N, T-P) at each observatory for 4 years (2007-2010). The water quality characteristics of inflow streams were evaluated. The 4 scenarios for the water quality improvement were applied to inflow streams and critical area from water pollution based on previous researches. The reduction efficiency of point and non-point sources in inflow streams was evaluated with each scenario. The results demonstrate that the expansion of advanced treatment system within wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and construction of pond-wetlands would be great effective management measures. In order to satisfactory the target water quality of reservoir, the measures which can control both point source and non-point source pollutants should be implemented in the watershed.
