Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is a channel access scheme adopted by the IEEE 802.11e draft standard for QoS-enabled wireless local area networks. It classifies traffic into separate Access Categories (ACs) and achieves service differentiation by allowing each AC to have its own values of channel access parameters. This paper proposes a scheme to dynamically adapt the EDCA parameters to traffic environment so that they both maximize the throughput of non real-time traffics and meet the delay and throughput constraints of real-time traffics. For this purpose, we develop a design algorithm for efficient exploration of the EDCA parameter space. Using the algorithm, we derive a Pareto curve fur delay-throughput trade-off in each anticipated traffic environment. The Pareto database can then be used to optimally adjust the parameter according to the traffic environment and administrative policies. Simulation results show that compared with the default parameter configuration, the proposed scheme is better for delay, throughput guarantee and can improve the throughput of non real-time traffics by 12% on average.
In this paper, we present a methodology to model an indoor environment of a mobile robot using fuzzy numbers and to make a global map of the robot environment using graph theory. We describe any geometric primitive of robot environment as a parameter vector in parameter space and represent the ill-known values of the prameterized geometric primitive by means of fuzzy numbers restricted to appropriate membership functions. Also we describe the spatial relations between geometric prinitives using graph theory for local maps. For making the global map of the mobile robot environment, the correspondence problem between local maps is solved using a fuzzy similarity measure and a Bipartite graph matching technique.
We examine the effect of environment on star formation activity of a sample of a galaxy group catalogue constructed from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS DR8) given in Tempel et al.(2012). As an environmental parameter, we use the richness of the galaxy group. According to this parameter, we select 6846 galaxies in dense environment and 297335 galaxies in low environment. By comparing the two samples, we identify the different relationship between star formation rate and stellar mass. In order to compare galaxies in different environment, we fixed other parameters(color, apparent magnitude), which can affect star formation efficiency except for stellar mass. Also, based on HI mass from the ALFALFA survey, we study the environmental dependence of Kennicutt-Schmidt law which show the correlation between star formation rate and gas content.

A quality assurance safety assessment database, called QUARK (QUality Assurance Program for Radioactive Waste Management in Korea), has been developed to manage both analysis information and parameter database for safety assessment of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) disposal facility in Korea. QUARK is such a tool that serves QA purposes for managing safety assessment information properly and securely. In QUARK, the information is organized and linked to maximize the integrity of information and traceability. QUARK provides guidance to conduct safety assessment analysis, from scenario generation to result analysis, and provides a window to inspect and trace previous safety assessment analysis and parameter values. QUARK also provides default database for safety assessment staff who construct input data files using SAGE(Safety Assessment Groundwater Evaluation), a safety assessment computer code.

The amount of information increases rapidly when working in a distributed environment where multiple collaborative partners work together on a complex product. Today's PDM (product data management) systems provide good capabilities regarding the management of product data within a single company. However, taking into account the variety of systems used at partner sites in an engineering environment one can easily imagine problems regarding the interoperability and the data consistency. This paper presents a concept to improve the workflow management using the parameters network. It shows a parameter driven engineering workflow that is able to manage engineering task across company boarders. We introduce a mechanism of workflow management based on the engineering parameters and an architecture of the distributed workspace to apply it within a PDM system. For a parameter mapping between CAD and PDM system we developed an XML-based CATIA data interface module using CAA.

Groundwater contamination susceptibility studies have many advantages in groundwater monitoring, management and future planning. Several methods have been developed and applied to the groundwater regime through out the world. However, each and every method has some limitations. In this study, a detailed review was carried out about the already existing methods for groundwater contamination susceptibility studies. Additionally, a new parameter called mineral dissolution factor is recommended for groundwater contamination susceptibility studies. This parameter is applied for groundwate contamination susceptibility studies in Namwon area, Korea. The result of this approach suggests that mineral dissolution parameter could overcome the limitations as observed in the earlier methods.

Slug and pumping tests have been widely used to obtain hydraulic parameter estimates in the field. Although a variety of sources of error and uncertainty can be involved in the course of the test performance and data analysis, serious considerations on these sources are often neglected. In this study these various sources of error and uncertainty are analyzed or discussed using repeated slug and pumping test data and some guide lines are suggested to improve quality of parameter estimates from the slug and pumping tests.

In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for estimating parameters of nonlinear continuous-discrete state-space system. This algorithm uses the conventional extended Kalman filter(EKF) for estimating state variables, and modifies the recursive prediction error method for parameter estimation of the nonlinear system. Simulation results for both linear and nonlinear measurements under the environment of process and measurement noises show a convincing performance of the proposed algorithm.
Biophysicochemical processes in water environments and treatment systems have been great concerns of engineers and scientists for controlling the fate and transport of contaminants. These processes are practically formulated as mathematical models written in coupled differential equations. However, because these process-based mathematical models consist of a large number of model parameters, they are complicated in analytical or numerical computation. Users need to perform substantial trials and errors to achieve the best-fit simulation to measurements, relying on arbitrary selection of fitting parameters. Therefore, this study adopted a Bayesian calibration method to estimate best-fit model parameters in a systematic way and evaluated the applicability of the calibration method to biophysicochemical processes of water environments and treatment systems. The Bayesian calibration method was applied to the microbial growth-decay kinetics and flocculation kinetics, of which experimental data were obtained with batch kinetic experiments. The Bayesian calibration method was proven to be a reasonable, effective way for best-fit parameter estimation, demonstrating not only high-quality fitness, but also sensitivity of each parameter and correlation between different parameters. This state-of-the-art method will eventually help scientists and engineers to use complex process-based mathematical models consisting of various biophysicochemical processes.
