  • The purpose of this study is to measure the environmental effects of different alternative building materials. The following building materials were tested: clay bricks, cement wall, and red-clay plaster. Four mock-up models were constructed using clay bricks, cement wall, red-clay plaster and the last model as the control model. The effects of the above four building materials on temperature, humidity, the emissions of formaldehyde, and V.O.C were measured. This experiment was conducted during September. The conclusions are as follows. Clay bricks were able to control temperature, humidity and filter formaldehyde by itself. The environment within the cement wall was not affected by the humidity changes outside. Red-clay plaster walls had little impact on the environment because it is very thin.!

  • Cloud computing has proven its efficiency, especially after the increasing number of cloud services offered by a wide range of cloud providers, from different domains. Despite, these cloud services are mostly heterogeneous. Consequently, and due to the rising interest of cloud consumers to adhere to a multi-cloud environment instead of being locked-in to one cloud provider, the need for semantically interconnecting different cloud services from different cloud providers is a crucial and important task to ensure. In addition, considerable research efforts proposed interoperability solutions leading to different representation models of cloud services. In this work, we present our solution to overcome this limitation, precisely in the IAAS service model. This solution is a framework permitting the semantic interoperability of different IAAS resources in a multi-cloud environment, in order to assist cloud consumers to retrieve the cloud resource that meets specific requirements.

  • In applying modeling and simulation (M&S) techniques to analyze complex discrete event dynamic systems, conventionally users had to use different simulation environments depending on the user-level. To solve the inconvenience, this paper proposes an integrated development environment for M&S depending on user-level and a formalized interface to manage the model in the development environment efficiently. The interface consists of an extended DEVS formalism and model making rules. The development environment is divided into a modeling environment and a simulation environment. In the modeling environment, three modeling methods are provided for each level of the users. Users inputs several parameters to the model generated as a result of the modeling process, and experiments in various cases by using the simulation environment. The case study shows the implementation of the proposed M&S environment, and using the implemented environment, it shows the M&S process of the complex defense combat system.

  • The flow of the middle and downstream of the Yeongsan River is stagnant by two weirs of Seungchon and Juksan and the estuary dam and maintained in freshwater. In this study, the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code-National Institute of Environment Research(EFDC-NIER) model was applied to the Yeongsan River to simulate water flow, temperature, and salinity stratification. The EFDC-NIER model is an improved model which can simulate multi-functional weirs operation, multiple algal species, and the vertical movement mechanism of algal based on the EFDC model. The simulation results for the water level, water temperature, velocity, and salinity reproduced the observed values well. The mean absolute error(MAE) of the model calibration in the annual variations of the water level was 0.1-0.3 m, water temperature was 0.8-1.7 ℃, velocity was 4.5-7.1 cm/sec, and salinity was 1.5 psu, respectively. In the case of scenario simulation for the full opening of the estuary dam, the water level of the estuary dam was directly impacted by the tide so it was predicted to rise - 1.35 m to 0.2 m on average sea level. The velocity was also predicted to increase from 2.7 cm/sec to 50.8 cm/sec, and the flow rate to increase from 53 ㎥/sec to 5,322 ㎥/sec.

  • Diversity in hardware and software is increasing ever and our networked computing environment is becoming more diverse. The development of software becomes expensive works because of a collection of diverse computers, storing various data type in different places, working together by incompatabilities of operating system and various databases and protocols. CORBA is a standard for distributed computing environment and for system integration of heterogeneous distributed environment. CORBA provides many technical benefits for effective system integration and seamless infrastructure for distributed communication environment of heterogeneous systems. In this paper, we proposed a system integraton model based on CORBA for distributed object environment, softwarc reuse and the intcrconnecion of WWW. The model is composed of factory server, trading server, convcrsion scrvcr and applicaton scrvcr. Thc proposed model can easy application development and system integration. And we implcmcntcd thc gateway for cooperation with WWW. As a proof of the proposed model, we show how the distance learning system designed using the services provided by the proposed model.

  • We studied on a technic to improve and implement the virtual environment grid information in the war-game model. The virtual environment data are categorized into ground, sea, and air, and separatedly managed and operated. The data are implemented and managed in the geographical information and topography type information. The geographical information, including grid location coordinate and sea level, are managed in computer files as a grid type. We improved the representation of the sea level by mapping the sea level value of the grid information file into GCV and suggested the dynamic virtual environment implementation technic for the region with the large range of tide. In the experiments, we could know that it is possible to adopt the dynamic virtual environment to the war-game model.

  • The manufacturing industry is the one with the most frequent industrial disasters, and it is important to study the safety climate recognized by workers in the industry in order to actively prevent industrial accidents. However, little research has been performed on the safety climate in workplaces felt by the workers in the manufacturing industry. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting work environment safeness based on practical analysis via survey, and to establish the relation between safety performance factors and safeness of work environment. The survey was performed for workers in the manufacturing industry(n=228), and structural equations model analysis by using the AMOS 7.0 was performed in order to identify the fit of the research model and the causation among factors. According to the results of the analysis, the reliability and the model fit were appropriate for interpretation, and safety participation was shown to affect safeness of work environment more than safety compliance. The results of this study may serve as the reference for taking a measure to improve the level of safeness of the work environment felt by workers in the manufacturing industry.

  • The ecohydrologic characteristics according to planting in riparian zone for the riparian restoration are analyzed in this research. The ecohydrologic components due to land use change in riparian zone from existing land cover to planted area such as pasture and wildrye are simulated in the test basin with the integrated SWAT-MODFLOW model. After analysis of change of the hydrologic properties such as surface flow, lateral flow, transpiration and soil water in riparian zone, it is revealed that soil water is one of the key factors and planting of wildrye can increase soil water in riparian zone. The simulation performance of the SWAT-MODFLOW model is validated in this study and it is expected that this model can be used to evaluate various riparian restoration scenarios.

  • The enterprise are facing potential SHE(safety, health and environment) of major industrial accidents to cause casualties or a financial loss and increasing social responsibility. So, SHE management system has to be voluntarily accomplished rather than passively with regard to SHE regulation. In this study, KW_SHE(Kwangwoon Safety, Health and Environment) management model is developed which materialize self-regulation SHE management system of individual work-place by the research and analysis of many domestic enterprise. This KW_SHE management model is intend to assess work-product vs. management expenses investment and critically evaluated for studying its benefits and limitations.
