A Study for ESG (Environment Social Governance) in Tourism Industry (관광산업 분야 ESG (Environment Social Governance)를 위한 시론적 연구)

  • As an industry that serves as a greater catalyst for social and cultural exchange than any other industry, the tourism industry has a strong responsibility toward sustainable management in economic, social, and environmental respects. However, there is a low level of awareness for ESG(environmental, social, governance), and as of now, only companies whose parent company is a large corporation are interested in ESG. Moreover, tourism companies taking part in ESG only focus on the environmental field of ESG. Thus, the present study attempted to understand the current status of ESG research in the tourism field and, based on this understanding, offer a field of research urgently in need. Based on the research results, the study found that awareness studies on the type of ESG management that stakeholder groups take into consideration must take place in advance in order to understand and develop ESG for the tourism industry. Additionally, ESG evaluation variables that reflect the characteristics of the tourism industry must be developed. Lastly, strategies and techniques that objectively disclose ESG management activities are necessary based on a disclosure strategy presented by GRI(Global Reporting Initiative).

  • The purpose of present study is that according to the changing tourism environment, detailed cultural environment will be utilized in the active way as systematized theme-based cultural space, and the increase of small theme-based cultural space will contribute to active participation of customers and local development with various programs. TCS was classified to theme-based cultural space contents E5(Education, Entertainment, Experience, Emotion and Economy) in focus of contents in which software is regarded more importantly than hardware, and was analyzed as contents of ten key tourism trend of the future. The present study indicate that experience centered tourism environment stood out in theme-based cultural space, and new era of cultural tourism to which storytelling in focus of emotion is applied will be coming.

  • The progress of information technology triggered the rapid progress of tourism industry and the industry has now grown to be the biggest and the highest value added producing industry. Tourism industry is characterized by its high information dependency and is subject to the frequent changes of schedule. Therefore, dynamic cooperations between the service provider and the service agent is essential. One of the latest trend in information technology is the popular adoption of XML as the standard means of document exchange in the internet environment. This paper proposes a supply chain management system which enhances the productivity and customer satisfaction in the tourism industry by exploiting the exchange of information in XML among the tourism society, which consists of the producer, the agents, and the consumer. This Paper is especially addressed to the applicability of e-SCM for the productivity enhancement in the tourism industry, which is known as the leading service industry in the internet environment.

  • Many of legislations related to tourism has been made up to now since the year 1961 when modern tourism studies started. In restropect of the year 1988, the year 2002 is expected to be another chance for tourism. In order to take this chance again, new laws and regulations are necessary. Therefore, the object of this study are decided as follows: 1) to put 'the right to go sightseeing' in statutory form at constitution. 2) to realise the private law of tourism 3) to make the environment law of tourism 4) to make the facility law of tourism 5) to make the transportation law of tourism 6) to make the cultural property law of tourism 7) to make the food law of tourism 8) to make the related law of tourism 9) to make the advertising law of tourism, the tax law of tourism, and the economy law of tourism As tourism laws like above exist, tourism industry would be developed more than now.

  • Tourists' needs are changing rapidly and new niche markets, such as nature tourism, eco-tourism, and marine tourism, are flourishing in response to consumer demand. Especially, the estimating demand & supply of manpower in marine tourism is a very important issue for basic tourism HRD policy. This research is focused on the estimation of growing demands of manpower and suggests the method to estimate the proper number of manpower in marine tourism industry.

Challenges for conserving biodiversity and developing sustainable island tourism in North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia

  • Recent conditions in North Sulawesi Province (NSP) have become favorable for the development of tourism. In this paper, we present the recent status of biodiversity and tourism in NSP as a basic consideration towards integrative biodiversity conservation strategy. Overall, biological accounts suggest that NSP is important for the world biodiversity conservation program. NSP's biodiversity makes the area a major nature-based tourism (ecotourism) site in the world. Development of diverse tourism programs in NSP has provided new opportunities for balancing development and conservation of regional ecosystems. However, the excessive tourism growth in some particular areas in NSP has been identified as the primary factor of environmental degradation. Nowadays, biodiversity of North Sulawesi regions are suffering from the number of tourist impacts and facilities. Based on those conditions, tourism planning and development in NSP is needed to formulate a proper strategy to protect the ecosystem and biodiversity from degradation and extinction. This will be a new challenge of sustainable island tourism development and biodiversity conservation in NSP.

  • Ecotourism has surged from conflicts between negative impacts of mass tourism and environmental issues. As an alternative tourism, ecotourism compromises extensively environmental, economic, educational, and cultural concerns. Ecotourism can be defined as environment-based tourism that ensures sustainable growth and development through conservation of natural and human environment, promotion of regional economy, and provision of tourism service in natural environment areas. Ecotourism should consider two key challenges; an effective means that may protect local economy through tourist-based income and improvement of residential circumstances, and role as leisure space that can improve tourist's experiences. The purpose of this study was to summarize ecotourism concepts through literature search and develop an ecotourism planning framework for Korean rural communities. In addition, developed planning framework in this study was applied to Jeongdori area, Wandogun, Korea as a case study in order to analyze its feasibility. A trial application in Jeongdori area demonstrated a possibility that ecotourism planning framework can be successfully adopted to a wide range of Korean rural communities. To ensure objectivity of framework, systematic case studies must be done in the future.

  • This study investigates the impact levels of determinants on the Balanced Scorecard application in evaluating the performance of tourism firms in Hanoi. The tourism industry not only promotes economic development, but also contributes to expanding cultural exchanges and improving people's knowledge. However, Vietnam's tourism industry is under fierce competitive pressure, with the participation of foreign enterprises, with large amount of capital, high professionalism and wide network. The rivalry is happening aggressively on many aspects such as products and human resources. Therefore, tourism firms are in urgent needs of having effective methods to evaluate its performance in order to improve business and development efficiency. This study uses data of tourism firms in Hanoi during 2018-2019. The data used for analysis and regression consists of 135 observations. We use Cronbach's Alpha, EFA and regression model to learn the effect of different variables on the Balanced scorecard application in evaluating the performance. The results show that two determinants, including internal factors of tourism firms (IF) and external factors of tourism firms (EF) had positive relationships with the Balanced scorecard application in evaluating the performance. Based on the findings, recommendations are given for improving the Balanced scorecard application in evaluating the performance of tourism firms in Hanoi.
